Nevertheless, he enslaved more than six hundred people during his lifetime.
Although he took some legal initiatives against slavery and occasionally complained about its existence,
He also benefited directly from the institution of slavery.
Sally Hemings occupies an important place in Jefferson's history because historians believe she bore him six children.
Sally Hemings gave birth to her owner's children, as did countless other enslaved women.
She had at least six children with Thomas Jefferson.
Four survived to adulthood.
Decades later, Jefferson freed all of Sally Hemings' children.
Jefferson did not grant freedom to any other enslaved family unit.
Despite being the founding father of America
Jefferson's abuse of power and slaveholding are as significant as his achievements.

It was the United States and Great Britain that ended the world slave trade that existed for thousands of years before any Africans ever stepped foot in America

It was the norm at that time around the world.
Only one race waged wars against slavery.
Only one race wrote laws against slavery.
And today there are more slaves in south Africa then the entirety of the American slave trade times 3.

Make note that no slave ship sailed under a Confederate flag. Think about it.
