  • Just after 1 am, there was a crash on I-45 northbound just south of Rayford Road where a pickup hit the wall. With oil and fluids on the ground, TXDOT was notified. Several lanes of the freeway were closed with emergency vehicles blocking. Traffic was light and being routed to the right lanes As they continued to wait at about 3 am. A 29-year-old female from Conroe driving a 2022 Toyota Corolla failed to slow and slammed into a $1.5 million South Montgomery County Fire Department Ladder Truck. pushing the 75,000-pound truck with three firefighters sitting in it. None of the firefighters were injured. The female was pronounced deceased on the scene. She was transported to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. According to South Montgomery County Asst Fire Chief, the truck could be down anywhere from 3 months to a year if it isn't totaled as the vehicle hit in the right rear of the truck where the outriggers are which support the truck when the ladder is extended.

Look at how bad the air is in the video, that driver was impaired by aerosolized-garbage or aerosolized poison-ivy from the ignored illegal land clearing fires. Our Fire Marshal needs to be replaced with something less useless.

@SlackerU Yeah a 22 year old at 3 a.m. slams into a fricken massive red fire truck with flashing lights on and you think it's particulates from burn pits😂 there's some smoke in the air for sure but it's coming from your bong.

@@BT-be8rh Look at the dirty-air, I'm looking at the dirty-air. Dirty air can absolutely disrupt your ability to safely drive. Burning for land-clearing is illegal here in Harris & Montgomery county b/c oils in things like poison-ivy & poison-oak can lower the amount of oxygen in your blood which is not the best for your brain.

@@Dane3804 at 3 a.m. the air speed is well below the legally needed 6 mph to legally outdoor burn here in Texas. I have complaints to make so I know the wind speed was 2 mph with a fog warning so if everyone knew the State Laws then maybe that 22yo wouldn't have been impaired by the outlawed dirty-air.

I live in Alberta and the lack of common courtesy and commen sense is astounding. I'm so surprised this doesn't happen a lot around here. I always slow down, and move over if I can when I see flashing lights on the side of the road, highway, town or city and without fail, I have some jackass ride my bumper, honking at me to hurry up.
I don't care how uppity someone gets that I'm thinking about someone else other than myself, I will continue to slow down and move over.
I run into a lot of RCMP officers (I live in a town where one of their headquarters are), and I get thanked all the time for doing something they shouldn't even have to thank me for.
*So there's no confusion, they know which car is mine because it's quite distinct.

Just in case you wondered why they send a giant ladder truck to an auto accident? This is why. Just imagine what would have happened to the assembled first responders at the original accident scene if the "blocking rig" wasn't there. A good idea, rather that the million-dollar fire truck would be to get an old tractor-trailer rig, and fill the trailer with sand bags, etc. Cheaper to sacrifice that than a fire truck.

All the first responders on site would have lit the road up like day time. Given the time of night and the speed she was going upon impact, my money is on DWI. Heartbreaking to see that kind of damage to the truck. It’s a blessing no one else was injured.

It possible that she fell asleep. Even a drunk driver would notice a giant flashing truck. Let alone someone distracted by their phone. People on their phone are able to notice the car they about to hit, they just noticed too late. So it impossible to not notice bright flashing light long before you reach it even if youre on your phone. And absolutely ridiculous to think that she wouldn't botice it if she was using her rearview mirror to apply lipstick. So idk how all these comments think that what happened...
My brother friend fell asleep on his way home from work after midnight and rear ended a semi, killing him instantly. Sometime, you just fall asleep without even realizing. You know you're tire but didn't realize that you were seconds away from knocking out.

Precisely why our county has protocol to have utility traffic trucks as blockers, backed up by an engine. We are prohibited from running the truck on wrecks, unless filling for a rescue, at which point it would not be blocking. They are $750,000 (and up, way up) specialized machines, too critical to wreck. Engines, much cheaper, and everyone and their mother has one (we have three).

Ok, so that’s a nightmare for any firefighter period. In 19 years full time thank GOD I’ve never had to do a fatal extrication on any fire crew truck. But there’s a reason we use our trucks to block traffic from any scene. People see the blueberries and cherries (our lights) and stare at what we are doing instead of paying attention to their driving. Everyone is in a damn hurry these days and no one abides by the speed limit. She just crashed and most likely totaled a million plus dollar truck that’s now out of service for their county because of her stupidity. It’s really sad she lost her life. That could have been 100% preventable. So sad.

You see this a lot with cars hitting semis which have very little to no lights and move very slow and can be hard to see at night until its too late. But how does somebody not see a fire engine or Ambulance with all those lights they have?? Either on their phone not paying attention or under the influence of who knows what. Or a sudden medical condition or not familiar with the area. But its usually distracted or DUI.

Railroads have a device that they can attach to a rail quite a ways back from a train that is stopped. The loud "bang" makes sure that the engineer is aware that he needs to slow down and be ready to stop.
Maybe something like that for emergency services. Something like a stop sticks that cover an entire lane that can be placed a quarter mile before the incident.
