I sold mine to afford an alesis andromeda. A seriously great machine! However, I am currently craving another Waldorf 49. It’s an incredible synth from every angle.
I have the Iridium desktop, and one thing that I find very interesting, is how insanely low the frequency depth can be, compared to my other digital and analogue synths. Even average VA patches, can shake my monitors, in the lower registers.
SERIOUSLY interested..... Ive been close to the desktop a few times, and the Poly AT board Im not liking the feel of my Hydrasynth keys, so while having to take a loss on that (only bought December) - this would be my preferred option. Just need a buyer for the HS first.
They’re full of these ambient lads and it seems a shame not to demo them. Having said that I do t think they’re the best suited for leads or at least you have to tease stuff out, or can’t quite get the dirt you’re looking for easily. So it’s very time consuming. But watch this space… after I’ve spent more time on it. Demo coming soon.
@@StarskyCarr Ok great!. Of course I watch your space and all your associated social media :). I'd like to hear it get close to that 80's PPG vibe, being that we are dealing with the legacy of Wolfgang Palm.
@@StarskyCarr Dirt can take time to tease out as well. Listen to the "bundles" at the end of Trash80's last three Discord meets involving the Dirtywave M8. What do those guys have over us when it comes to exploring the potential of an instrument? Twenty-five years of intensive work with an idiosyncratic tracker that Trash80 perfected.
Hey Starsky! Are you maybe planning on making a classic Starsky synth review of the Novation Summit or/and a comparison with e.g. Prophet rev2? I would love to see this so much! All the best and greetings from Poland!
Don't know if It would be an issue ( Hope not 🙂 ), but would like to suggest you also the presets created by Matt Johnson that are really inspiring. I follow Mr. Carr and Mr. Johnson which I consider both worthy representatives of the music scene across the Channel
I've been torn between this and the Hydrasynth, oddly, because of the all-digital synthesis and poly-AT, but I might hold out to see what happens in the next few years when companies implement MIDI 2.0 fully in a digital synths with good keybeds. So, question: how does the Iridium's keybed feel compared to the standard Hydrosynth's?
I think it's easy these days to just think of synths being good at every kind of sound we might want... I don't get this feeling from this keyboard... the analogue-like part isn't quite there compared to all the OB6, Pro6, P5Rev3 which spoil us... but wow what it brings to the table is damn cool... I can imagine not using any of these presets at all but making my own unique sounds... been after something like this for about 15 years since the V-Synth days...
Can't decide between this or the Arturia Poly Brute. The irridium is nice but can't help thinking it sounds nothing really new, pretty comparable to some VST combos and other synth workstations from Korg etc tonaly. Maybe it's the digital tone and filters. Where as the polybrute seems to have a very unique tone of its own and capable of unique sounds and unique modulation. They are both interesting and different to one and other so it's hard to decide.
I know what you mean... its a bit like Pigments in some ways... but I just like the idea of a piece of hardware that does those things... that and the combined samples, granular et al is intriguing.
@@neilloughran4437 Yeah I think I'm leaning more towards towards the Polybrute...I think:). Got my Iridium Keyboard recently - I have an entire album coming end of January made entirely with this wonderful instrument.
Did you release the album?
I find every sound spurs creativity, but many are very Cinematic
Probably my next keyboard buy! Have the Osmose on order too but this sounds incredible to me.
I looked at Osmose but its too wide for my space - this will fit.
This is my favorite keyboard ever
Lovely play! The cold metallic and glassy sounds are its speciality. Cinematic, atmospherical, ethereal, ...
Would Waldorf consider to do a Quantum +?

I wonder if outputs are DC coupled
ASM Hydrasynth is like that as well. My Waldorf Iridium keyboard is pre-ordered from Thomann, can’t wait to compare!
Sounds amazing 💯
Very useful thanks for that

That opening preset wholly molly Richard
Waldorf is putting out some interesting synths. This synth and the Quantum are a bit too "cinematic" for me, but a cool demo.
A lot of these people who do these demos love pads and atmospheres. I want to hear the leads. A lot of these guys don't do these synths any justice.

Is that a euphemism?! 🧐🤔
In your dreams. I mean that literally.. it sounds like the background of someone's dream.

You can really hear later Tangerine Dream from this synth.
My Iridium & Summit are two synths I hope I never have to part with.

Starsky what is the name of the patch at 4;50...the one by BT? It's brilliant. This is my next purchase.
