  • On Veteran's Day 2022, Dynamo Productions hosted a special photo charter on the Northern Central Railway in southern Pennsylvania. The aim of the event was to capture the flavor of the late 1800s, and with the many historic barns, houses and stations that dot the region, along with the quaint and rolling countryside of York County, the feeling of early American railroading in the late-19th century came about very quickly. Heading up the train was the railroad's replica 4-4-0 #17, pulling a mixed train that featured the Northern Central's newly restored former Delaware & Hudson Railroad gondola, along with a trio of passenger coaches. Unfortunately, the weather had its own plans for the day, with Tropical Storm Nicole wreaking havoc on the area, resulting in a literal non-stop raining day. Despite the torrential downpours, the charter pushed onwards, with canopies supplied by the Dynamo team to keep the attendees and their camera equipment dry. The rainy weather also made for some dramatic scenes as #17 worked hard to keep her footing on the wet rails. With an ensemble of actors on hand to star in various scenes, the old-time atmosphere was further enhanced on a railroad with a deep and impressive history. With a little imagination, the sprit of President Lincoln traveling over the railroad from Washington D.C. to Gettysburg on his way to give one of the most important speeches in our countries' history can be seen. In addition to a full day of runbys, spectacular night scenes rounded out the day's events, with scenes staged at the Howard Tunnel and the prolific depot at Hanover Junction. As a special treat, we'll take a cab ride in #17 at night as she rolls through the peaceful forests and sleepy settlements of southern PA, making for some timeless scenes indeed. Now, sit back and enjoy the incredible sights and sounds of #17 "Battling Through The Storm"!

Great video, Evan. Thanks for joining us again, it was a pleasure to be able to put on this event for you and the rest of the attendees! We hope the canopies were enough to make the downpour tolerable!

Thank you so much! I and everyone else had such a great time and this was definitely one of the more memorable charters I’ve done! It’s always a fun experience doing your charters, and I look forward to seeing what’s to come in the future!

Thank you all so much. I'm reminded that three of my relatives were trained in Elmira for the Civil War, traveling this line, then only one returned home.

A fantastic video despite the rainy weather. Great footage of the 4-4-0 American, Eight-Wheeler and the train. I love these old steam locomotives, that's technology that inspires. Thank you for showing me.

Another beautiful video. And in my backyard, too. Rode the Northern Central for many years in my motorcar on NARCOA rides. Great to see the Steam Into History using the northern end of the line. The scenery is more beautiful on the northern half.
