    Auto’s: flick them into manual on steep climbs, get the revs low and utilise the torgue👍

      Yeah, I use the manual paddles when towing, more control.

    Hi Martin. Been towing with an automatic for the last five years don't think I would go back to a manual tow car now. I find it far more relaxing especially on busy stop start roads. Thanks for sharing 👍

    Hi Martin I've been towing a caravan for 25 years with various manual cars & just changed last year to automatic (BMW X4) & haven't had a problem at all. I think it just takes a few tows to get used to it. I am getting similar mpg as you but its not too bad. Just enjoy your new car mate

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  Год назад

      It’s so much easier towing with an auto, definitely not going back to manual.

    Hi Martin
    Good update vlog thanks 👍🏻
    I tow with VW Touareg 3L V6 Auto diesel and would never go back to manual. Changes gear up n down no problem.
    Towing up n down hills is a breeze with auto, last car was Toyota RAV4 auto 2L and that auto was great too .
    The Touareg gives me around about 27/28mpg towing and a few more solo which for 3L isn’t bad. Although at times depending on roads it’s been low 20’s. The RAV4 wasn’t much better and it was petrol
    I leave the stop start off as I think it takes a lot out of the battery and if I can save then it’s a bonus.
    What I do leave ON is the auto handbrake which works well even with the van on the back ( 2011 Sterling 550 1490kg)
    Thanks for continued excellent content
    Regards
    Howard

      Hi Howard,
      Yep not going back to a manual, so much easier and less stress with the auto.
      You are getting good mpg with your Touareg, can’t grumble with that.
      As long as you look after these cars they will go forever.
      Thanks for comments and watching, Martin

    Hi Martin glad your happy with your new Tug. I switched to an auto when I bought my Evoque, it’s been ultra reliable I’m really pleased with it. I had auto box serviced at 50 k, I also serviced the Haldex unit at same time. Not sure if your Kuga has Haldex unit. Replacement of a failed unit is eye watering. Best wishes.

      Hi Colin, yep loving the auto, no more manuals for me!
      I think it’s the Haldex but what ever it is I’ve had it serviced 🤣
      Look after it and it will look after you.
      Thanks for watching matey

    Hi Martin, Good to hear your tow car is performing well 👍. Passed my test in a manual then a year later got an auto and 35 years on never looked back. I had my media interface and sat nav updated at Audi as it’s a Hard Disk Drive and requires a code to update. Did it in time for our last trip and it worked a treat. Not sure how the Kuga maps update. Might be worth going on the Ford website or asking at the Ford dealers before deciding which way to go and whether you can do it yourself. Interesting video 👍 Cheers, Rob

      Hi Rob, I’ve been on all the forums, Ford websites, followed all the advice and tips and still can’t update it. Will stick with the apple car play which is working well.

    hi martin,I have a 2019 fwd kuga and also have the same problem with updating the sync 3 maps.The main bone of contention I have with the ford sat nag is that it always try’s to take you on connected route’s which generally ends up taking you down country b roads as you cannot tell it you are towing something.I only use google maps or waze now for that reason through apple car play😊

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  Год назад

      Yep not impressed with the Sync 3, would be better if it had a removable SD then it can be upgraded.
      Like you will stick to the Apple play!

      I find my auto gearbox shifting up and down annoying, can be bobbing along nicely then it drops down unexpectedly, also my honda accord auto can only tow 1100kg but the manual version can tow 1500kg.

    We've got the mk1 Kuga loved ours had gear box serviced using Ford oil at the required milage due to be serviced again in 3000 miles but the power shift gearbox has just gone tit's up 2k to fix so going to the breakers yard when I can find one we were supposed to be going to Lincoln for the week but our Yaris won't pull the caravan will be getting a manual car next

    Hi Martin What nose weight and tyre pressures were you running at as it appeared that you were getting a very choppy ride to me?

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  Год назад

      There was no weight in the car and not much in the van, hence the choppy ride. I also didn’t increase the tyre pressure due to it being a short journey.
      Hope that explains it, cheers
