My dad first played Shinobi arcade cabinet at his bar and fell in love with it. Then he saw it was available on the master system and bought me my first console. I fell in love with the game too and into a lifelong gamer. The memories of him and I taking turns to complete the game are memories that we will never forget. It was the only game he ever played and finished. Thanks for all of the treasured memories Sega. Love every Shinobi game and have been a Sega fan ever since. Dreamcast is still the best system in my opinion with the switch a close second.
I've always wanted to see a proper sequel to the Shinobi game on PS2. It's crazy how Overworks was able to nail the arcade feel of og Shinobi games in a 3D environment for that game. I remember playing it and thinking that the helicopter boss was out of place in the game, but it's a homage/throwback to the copters in this game.
Revenge of Shinobi and Shinobi 3 are both on the Sega Genesis collection for Switch. They are both incredible games and IMO worth buying the whole collection for.
One of the greatest arcade games of all time. The graphics. Music. Playability. Longevity. It was and is a classic. I loved it as a kid. And grateful for the port. Thanks for the review!
Oh, man. Shinobi was my jam back in the day. Going from the amazing Arcade game to my Master System game was a minor disappointment initially, but many great hours. Great look back!
I actually have THREE versions of the arcade Golden Axe on my PS3 and Xbox. The PS3 version I'm not sure if you can get from the store yet, the Xbox is the Xbox 360 both of them. Sadly, the best one, just plain "Golden Axe" doesn't seem available to purchase now, but I already own it so I have it. The other way to get it is to buy this, you might have to buy on PC instead of directly from Xbox. "Sega Vintage Collection: Golden Axe" The first Golden Axe on there is actually the ARCADE version! I literally just tested it for you so I didn't lead you astray. (I usually play the other version so I wasn't 100% sure) It also has the genesis GA2 and 3. It's an Xbox 360 game but it works on both Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. EDIT: The reason I say the other version is better is due to the sound on this version, it seems slightly tinny compared to the other one. Not so bad that I wouldn't buy it if it were the only option I had, but I do prefer the sound of the other one. It seems almost as if they tried to make it sound like you were actually standing at an arcade machine, but the machine is inside your tv lol. In some ways I'd say the sound effects seem slightly more nostalgic compared to my favorite version, but the music in the first level gives me a slight degree of cringe. (tinny) It's only $10 though...........
My childhood on my favorite hybrid console. As a 40 year old man child 😁 I am so happy! Don't get me wrong I will always love my ps vita....but boy do I love me some switch!
Love the SEGA Ages games Vick!!! Please ask your contact at SEGA to bring us more of these! In particular, Golden Axe Revenge of Death=Adder, Quartet, SDI, and any of the 3DS SEGA Ages games that haven't yet been put on Switch!
This is a great game! This was the best game in the 80's and is still the best side scrolling Ninja game today! I have got this game on my android phone and it is just awesome! I wish l could have this Sega switch version with the red Ninja outfit! It looks great! This game is timeless and will always be top of the charts! Shinobi, the Ninja!
This is one of the best ports of Shinobi to date. It also makes me realize that they need to either patch the Sega Genesis collection they released last year, as it is missing accurate sounds in some games and has input lag in a lot of them. It gets worse when you use filters or different wallpapers. M2 and the Sega Ages release; always mange to have no input lag, super responsive controls and overall accurate hardware emulation. Either patch it or have M2 release a Sega Ages collection (before they release individually as these games are taking forever individually). Once they do that; then we can finally get other arcade games and Sega Saturn games that have not been ported to consoles ever.
As you stated that it was an unlockable on a previous Sega collaboration, I noticed you got hit in the white suit and it changed to red... Is that the difference?? You can can hit 2 or 3 times instead of just once befoew dying?? Could you have mentioned that or didn't notice or care to tell the people that already own this game?
I don’t know about “looks good” compared to some snes and other genesis games the colors and stages visually just look a bit flat. I love Shinobi 3 and 2 so I’ll pick this up as soon as it’s on sale, it looks like fun despite it looking a bit pale. I can’t wait
@@Dalamartm Ohhh, 87? Damn okay for the time I can see why it's a big deal comparing it to something like dragon quest 3 or something. Even if it doesn't look as great as shadow dancer or the second shinobi, the game is still fun as hell, so graphics don't really matter when it comes to that.
I just don't get what the people running SEGA now are thinking. Maybe it's just me, but I hate the arcade version of Shinobi and Wonder Boy, and much prefer the SMS versions. Yet, it seems like they never release them. The same applies to a lot of their best games. No Zillion, Govelius, or other great SMS games, as well as other great games for Genesis, Saturn, and DC. I've got to get filthy rich so I can buy out the company and turn it around.
If you think the game industry greediness is something new, play Shinobi with a roll of quarters. Put one in cup every time you need a continue... It's a shame it not on PS4.
Vic, The more you’re playing old games the more you want to keep doing it right? These games still have tremendous value and appeal.

Would like to see a version of Shinobi 3 at some point. That ones is my favouite.
That's the best one. Where else can a ninja fight a Mecha Godzilla boss? Lmao

One of my all time favourite arcade games!

Oh awesome, I remember playing the arcade game including the bonus stage with the throwing stars in 1st person
Shinobi stands the test of time. One of my favorite arcade games of the 80s

My first foray into Shinobi was GG Shinobi, and that was a great game, but never got into this one or even the Mage Drive versions
I love Shinobi!

for 1987 this was great tho.Genesis and snes were years away and this was arcade when it wa a giant powerhouse still in usa.
