Hello everyone, Rimea here!
This channel is all about modding modern Mario games such as Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Apart from showcasing my mods, I also make videos explaining the mod creation process.

Thanks for watching, in case you're interested in modding Mario vs. Donkey Kong yourself, I've decided to make a Discord server for it: discord.gg/Ykz4ZW5xv4
By the way, this doesn't mean I'm done modding Super Mario Bros. Wonder, but I also don't want every single video on my channel to be dedicated to one game.
Can yall replace Toad with Luigi?

I'm surprised p2 isn't Luigi
@@thegreygoblin5165probably because toads are a big part of the series (mainly in this game) so that’s probably why
I said it with this game’s announcement, and I’ll say it again: This game would’ve benefited greatly with a level builder.
There's always the "free updates"
I remember Miniland mayhem's level editor being pretty great
You mean it doesn’t already have that?
One of the sequels had one, and it was fun
Bro this is a remake not an improvement

The game LITERALLY JUST CAME OUT. People are already modding it. That's so fast, it can be considered scary by some.
If you saw the video, it says it also got data from the demo.
It's a nintendo game, what do you expect?
Their crap is both easy to both mod and pirate, lmao
@@jeremyriley1238still kinda crazy from just the demo…
Apparently, there was a level editor in the beta of the GBA game. I was really hoping this remake would include it, but alas, we live in an imperfect world.
You know, a simple level editor in a lot of Nintendo games would remove a lot of the fan game and mod “issues” Nintendo has. Great video!
Not really. It would still be extremely restrictive and not let you do much like links awakening and on some level mario maker.
Or perhaps shittendo could be less butthurt about said stuff, don't you think?
It's Nintendo thanks get it right @@nobodyinparticular9640

3:08 Bro has seen some things💀
Did not know that Mario vs Donkey Kong Switch used the same engine as Splatoon 3 or Mario Wonder, ya learn something new everyday.
Good video.
Level models being simple 3d stage models decoupled from collisions should allow for pretty easy "tileset" changes. You could put anything in there and then just draw collision blocks over it
The fact that the level visuals are fully modeled instead of tile-based is 100% the reason they didn’t make a level editor. It just baffles me as to _why_ they did that instead of using the already in the game tile system to streamline making the level models. That would have made creating all of the levels much faster and simpler for the devs, even if they weren’t going to make it into a level editor anyway.
Honestly, it would be great if somebody tried to mod Donkey Kong 1994 (Game Boy) into this game.
I’m enjoying the game so far! Some folks are (rightfully) complaining about the reduced difficulty from the original GBA game; though I agree with some of the criticisms, this game is still really fun, and I kind of prefer the chilled-out experience to the original.
(Also, I’m excited to see the custom levels people will make! I’m sure ya’ll will get really creative with this game!)
Damn the editing on this video is soo good really smooth with all the transitions and explainations, keep up the great work!
I would love to see you make a proper custom level, who knows maybe I can make an editor or someone else does, I mean fushigi should be a good base in terms of dealing with the formats and rendering the models
Damnnnn that was fast... Makes sense that it's quite quick if the engines used are well known to the modding community! Awesome content, subbed!
Allright I’m getting a bit scared that the modding community could have some negative impact on Nintendo’s developers… great work though! Very intrigued by this
I'm surprised the game doesn't have a level editor, but since people have instantly begun to mod the game, I shouldn't worry. It would be cool to see new playable characters like DK Jr, Pauline or Stanley the Bugman get edited into the game, or new enemies.
I think this game has a lot of potential for custom levels!
Nintendo: **Writes this down** **Files a C&D** Thanks for the advice, nerd.
Outside of the trailers, this is the first video i see about this game and its about modding. Jesus

2:05 HOLY FRICK WHAT EYES ARE THOSE IN MARIO'S TEXTURE? I'M GONNA HAVE NIGHTMARES ABOUT THIS THING
i hope that, when greater mods can be made, someone will remake donkey 94 on the game boy, ost included
I wonder if people will ever make a mod for this remake that tries to replicate the animations that were cut from the original GBA game, like the door animations. Big pet peeve of mine that they cut those and replaced them with toned-down animations...
IT HASN'T EVEN BEEN 12 HOURS?!
Modding is at it again
is there modding server for discord yet?? :eyes:
I actually just made one discord.gg/Ykz4ZW5xv4
I hear there’s a bunch of unused death animations that look like the ones from the GBA version. Think you could look into that?
It's a good day to support Nintendo's most dedicated fans
Honestly, I probably wouldv′e got this if it had a level editor.
Since the levels are actually 3D modeled, can you have elements in the foreground in front of the level?
“Modding vs donkey Kong” I guess donkey Kong doesn’t like mods
Mario Vs John Cena.
its weird that i just happened to start playing the gba version recently even though i had no idea that tis game was released
BRO IT RELEASED TODAY
WHAT THE HELL HASN'T EVEN BEEN 3 DAYS
it should have said "modding vs nintendo"
Thank you mr youtube man
Welcome back
2:15 that was not Mario, that was Jumpman! Mario appeared just in Mario Bros. And the stupid donkey shouldn't show up in Mario games imho
theboy181 is making a 120 fps mod for Mario bros wonder. since wonder and tears of the kingdom share the engine would it be possible to make a 120fps mod for tears of the kingdom?
So would this allow someone to in theory, mod losing a life if Mario falls from too great a height? Like it was in the GBA game?
I think they are saving any kind of Mario level editor for Mario Maker 3, having other types of game modes would be great for Mario Maker 3
(Its sucks but its probably the truth)
Can you mod Yoshi in Mario vs donkey Kong?
need that Luigi mod
Please, please, please, please, PLEASE, remake 1994's Donkey Kong and do what Nintendoesn't.
Where did you get that ModuleSystem logo 😭
I didn't like the way it looked when I used normal text so I made that logo myself haha
AWESOME
BUT WAIT..........THERE'S MORE!
Liking the video? Sharing it? Check and check! It amazes me how there's already interest in modding the game in its opening hours, and I loved the GBA original growing up, so I'm definitely looking forward to see what you come up with!
Here before Nintendo bans this video
The only logical next step is to replace the Mini Marios with Plushtrap.
Will you he releasing the mods such as your texture edits or builder mario?
I should probably put the Builder Mario on gamebanana at least come to think of it
Edit - I did.
The game just came out and there already messing with the assets💀
Does this game include the levels from Donkey Kong the Game Boy game from 94?
sadly not
@@Rimea Well, now you have a good source for your first level pack
how is it barebones, it added 2 brand new worlds and whole bunch of new content, what??????
I honestly disagree, the extra content is great, but the art style looks off and cheap. I feel like even superstars even had a similar problem
I suppose it might be an exaggeration to call it barebones, but there's some pretty basic features missing, and some of the "soul" of the original is also lacking I'd say
@@Rimea ig your point kinda, i don't mind the game's artstyle tbh and from me playing it, i think the controls are like a million times worse then the originals. they're way too stiff and clunky imo
@@Bakedbeans780 i don't think so, superstars also looked pretty great imo, the character animation is better than most sonic games, and the environments looked really cool especially on the ps5, but ig your point, 2.5d is pretty soulless when done wrong so i get your point. i'd say the soullessness comes from the very stiff movement and animations, like the models and graphics look great, but the animation is really akward, especially by nintendo standards
@@Rimea yeah, i wish they brought the level editor from the other mario vs donkey kong games, although that might have been easier since the gameplay of the sequels were less complex to design levels for
Will you be focusing on this game from now on, or will you continue to make modding video about Wonder?
more Wonder videos are on their way, I doubt I'll be covering Mario vs. Donkey Kong for that long
@@Rimea Cool, thank you!
The game has been dumped online for about 2 weeks, so no surprise
Do you plan on working on a mario wonder mod?
what do you think the custom levels I've been making are for, I'll probably have more Wonder stuff coming out soon
Cool! I am working WITH mar gaming world on mario wonder test bowsers fury. Look it up it's cool!
What this might mean
Cool
We need a mod for some soundtracks, why nintendo you did this, whyyyyyy
Downloading this before it gets taken down by Nintendo 💀
Okay I'll be honest, I love the original game on GBA, and being able of making custom levels for a game I love so much would have been incredible.
But this remake fails in every way to capture the vibe of the original game, so improve on it with features like a level builder ? Of course they didn't do that.
I agree that a level builder would have been great but I don't get how exactly the "vibe" of the original game is gone.
@@danielj8085 Look at the cutscenes. Everything Mario says in the original (and he speaks a lot compared to most Mario games) is basically replaced by "Hey, wait !". They even removed some parts of the cutscenes, like Mario mocking DK or, after defeating him, going down the elevator to ask if he's okay.
Everything that gave him personality in that game is gone. Even in the levels, when he brought a mini to the door he said "Good job, little guy !" and now he says nothing.
And the enemies had some unique sound effects. For example the Bob-Ombs had pretty unique sound effects I didn't hear in any other Mario game. Now they just have no sounds besides standard beeps when they're about to explode.
@@Oceane1803 I think they changed most of the voicelines because they wanted to portray Mario and Donkey Kong's rivalry in a more friendly way. I personally don't think it's too much of a problem as it doesn't affect the gameplay. I definitely am not a fan of the pricing and some of the gameplay changes (like scores being completely gone) but I wasn't disappointed by the presentation because Nintendo usually changes a lot of minor details in their remakes. People said something similar about the Mario and Luigi remakes back then for example.
@@danielj8085 Well they shouldn't do that. Also they failed at it because all they did is remove the personality and charm from the game.
@@Oceane1803 That's not really the truth. They did add new content but you could of course argue that it wasn't enough.
Noooo why you make funky bad 😭😭😭😭😭
I’m mad that this game is $50 like that just doesn’t seem worth it
Why is Nintendo phasing out points?
excuse the pun, but what was the point of them to begin with?
@@RimeaIt added quite a bit of replay value and actively wanted you to clear the levels perfectly by beating all enemys and findimg all the shortcuts.
I dont mind it being gone, especially for casual players, but I wouldve prefered that this couldve been an option you could choose at the beginning of the game.
Actually since this game already has a classic and a casual mode, I would just put it into the clasic mode or made it an option within that mode
Oh I see, I don't mind games like Super Mario Bros. Wonder no longer having points like previous 2D Mario games, but yeah that kinda sucks.
@@Rimeathe original game also ranked you based on your points and it was how you unlock the extra levels
Nintendo hates you lol
SUB
Bro didnt mention pikmin 😢 joke
just in case this wasn't clear: Switch Sports, Splatoon 3, TotK, SMB Wonder and now Mario vs. Donkey Kong are the *only* games that use the ModuleSystem engine, Pikmin 4 uses Unreal Engine
@@Rimea oh s9rry i didn't catch tuat bit my bad
Modding sucks.
It's always been weird to me that a lot of first party Nintendo games just store their cutscenes as MP4s and not some proprietary format like what they do with most of the other assets
same, I'm sure there's some technical explanation for it but I have no idea why myself
Maybe due to the Switch's internals being more "standard" compared to prior generations? Just a spitball guess.
@@epicredhot5675 many Wii U games had uncompressed mp4 cutscenes as well, not sure about prior generations though
@@Rimea I have two things to say about this:
1. The Classic Mario skin is already a great idea, given how the animations not only give a sense of Deja Vu on Arcade Donkey Kong, but also give Deja Vu on 1994 Game Boy Donkey Kong, since Mario vs. Donkey Kong is a spiritual sequel to the Game Boy game.
2. It would be cool if someone modded this to have Movie DK replacing the old Rareware DK, given the aforementioned Game Boy game.
Why? It's not like people can't just record the cutscenes in-game if they were encrypted.
Lmao, was not expecting the intro screen so easily meme-able
Rule 71: if a game exist, there will be a mod.
How can you mod Rock, Paper, Scissors?
@@fixedfunshow By adding an illegal move.
Or by adding 18 new different characters and match ups.
Another mod idea of this game would be the reversed mode, where all matchups flip
Bro I got the game like three hours ago and people are already nodding it 😂😭
The Mario vs Donkey Kong series was a huge part of my childhood but I never played the first one. Also it is super disappointing this game doesn't have s level editor that was my favorite part of these games 😭
Same dude. I would have bought this game, but I was honestly disappointed that it was a remake rather than a whole new game based on the original. Thankfully, we got Rimea modding us some new levels!
The original does have a level editor, but you gotta access by a GameShark code
I find out about this game 2 years and ago while looking for some roms to emulate ( yeah i could not afford a game boy advance and my Ds lite needs to be fixed) so i played a bit this game, the remake is just beautiful too, im definitely gonna buy it one day when i can
@@NathanielIanLewisI mean, it's a good way to introduce the new gen kids to the 2D style of Mario, Mario Bros Wonder and Mario vs Dk are a really good start, i say it as im now adult and did grow up whit the new super Mario bros from the Nintendo DS, it was worth an evolution of the 2D series( being wonder) and a remake to even try a game that now goes expensive for the gba so that switch users can try it too
@@g10viwho70 the original has e reader levels
Yo that's awesome, custom model in Mario Kart wow 😮
2:22
So if Mario falls into a pit he just dies? Makes sense, but in the original game a death sound plays and then the game actually soft-locks, since there are no levels where you can just fall into a pit. Nice to see that the unused functionality is implemented fully in this remake, even though, once again, you can't just fall into a pit in this one too.
yeah it's interesting, maybe it was implemented as a safety measure, or if you want to get tinfoil hat-y maybe a level editor *was* planned at some point
@@Rimea it's also a shame that E-reader levels aren't present in this remake. Oh well
I need someone to mod back in the scoring system and star requirements of the original. I miss the cool death animations too, but i'm not holding my breath on that one.
For real. There's no point in killing enemies since the scoring system is gone. The replay value of this game diminishes without scores.
Here before Nintendo strikes this video
they ruined the game, removing score system, gift box minigames, fall damage, and difficulty like it was made for babies
Could someone replace toad (second player) with Luigi ?
I've actually been thinking of swapping Mario with Luigi but that's an even better idea
He's so back
For people who don’t want to mod the files themselves, I think it’d be great if someone made a green screen chroma key of the title screen!
I really wanna see someone import those semisolids and backgrounds from MvDK into Mario Maker 2's 3D World editor
You think you could try and mod the original instead ? It's probably much easier since it's in an older game, it has more charm than the remake, and also there's a disappointing lack of fan content around it. I want fan content around the original, I love that game so much.
I'm not gonna beat around the bush: the number one reason I'm interested in modding this game is because it's a recent release. I've enjoyed what I've played of the remake so far but I don't think it's a style of game that interests me enough to where I'd go back and mod the original, though it's definitely true that that would be much easier.
@@Rimea Ah well that's fine. I wish I could mod and do it myself. I learned that the original has a cut level creator that is still partially in the game, just inaccessible in normal ways, but there's no cheat code or mod or hack rom to access or maybe even complete it. So I can't use it myself.
It hasn’t been 24 hours and the game is already being modded lol.
rip level editor
the Mini Land Mayhem editor (on the DS) was a blast
I hope nintendo doesn't take this down like all the other videos lol
I really wanna know if it's possible to mod Mario's original death animations (aside from being flattened) back into the game. There's actually unused recreations of them in the demo files and that's one thing I miss dearly from the remake. It's boggling how this remake got done dirty compared to SMRPG and TTYD's.
Glad to have the achievement of first person to make a custom character for the Demo/Game.
SM64 Mario is out now on gamebanana!
Ok what is wrong with Mario's eyes in the rig?
Modding has become easier this modern times
And I'm glad about it :)
Damn, that was quick! Modders are absolutely insane when it comes to modding new titles. Day 1, leaks, demos... there's no time too early to figure out how to mod a game apparently.
Either way, interesting video. I'm definitely going to be watching out to see what kinds of awesome mods Mario vs Donkey Kong gets on Switch in future!
amazing
I was so surprised when JessicaIn3D already modded it
Can you mod in a Luigi model?
I wonder how long it will take for someone to remake Donkey Kong 94
Someone please make a mod that adds the scrapped, updated death animations from the OG version. Please. I'm begging.
It sucks to see them sitting in the files, swapped for generic animations of Mario falling from the screen.
