As a NATIVE Houstonian now living in Guam, I rescued my GSD from Houston K-9 !!!! love this! Great vid also! this helped with "all those little strings from double cuts!!!! Roland TrueVis VG2-540 and VW 6
lol, how cool!! I'm also a K9 handler and we received ours from HK9A too. I've only got a couple more years to go until I hit my 20 and can retire to do the print business full time. I have the same Roland! I like mine. I've taught myself most of everything with the print business and design. A lot of it by troubleshooting online, so when I can't find a video on a problem I fixed, I feel obligated to make a quick one. I've since made an updated video for this procedure, but youtube blocked it, I think. Small world. Stay safe down there in Guam!
@@gum082340 I have another issue. I started out on a versacamm 300i and VW 4. I sold it to come to Guam and I’m now on a TV 54” and VW 6.0. When I add a PerfCut. For whatever reason it’s cutting the cut lines, perfcut (.08) and then ANOTHER perfcut about 2”? I have checked ALL my files. Only 1 perfcut. In the VW I have turned OFF the cut boundary but then it also turns off the perfcut. Any ideas?
@@tracybest5790 Interesting. Are you removing media and laminating then coming back to laser align and cut? Or simply printing and cutting? emailing may be easier because I can try to send you a screen shot of the settings in my VW 6 to see if yours match. Or i can import file into mine to see if it replicates it or not. So is it making three cuts (image cut, then two perfcuts)? What does it show on the VW preview screen if you turn off print and just look cuts? Are the dancing ants in all three spots? eric@prometheanpro.com
So Open Adobe Illustrator Go to Window > Actions Record a new action and call it PNG Follow the tutorial till you place the item/position it. Then Stop the record Then select the correct layer (that circle button) after that, create a new record and call it "trace" then follow the tutorial for the trace, so Properties > Image Trace > Black & White logo , then hit the expand button. After that Stop the recording. Then you have to do the other parts manually, so deleting the white background, and adding the Roland cut stroke to it. Also If you ever have the trouble of having a DOUBLE CUT LINE This worked for me: File > Save As > EPS > On the Window > Preset > Custom > (Untick Convert all strokes to outlines) Click OK and Also Click on the opaque Option at the top of the original window. and click OK at the bottom :)
Thanks guy! This was way easier than any other video I've been seeing. Just got my new BN20 and I can't wait to get it rolling. I'm a PS person mainly, but use AI for a lot of print things, this is a super easy work around for cut lines [thumbs up]
For anyone this may help, be sure to make a recording/macro of the first part, (opening/placing), then another recording of the tracing. You can't make one big recording you need to do it in parts, but it helps so much.
Versaworks has its quirks for sure. If you have a vector file with transparencies/different opacities in a gradient, etc., you can still get a double cut. If this happens, assign the "CutContour" color as the fill instead of the stroke color and that should clear it up. Putting the cut path/fill on its own layers doesn't hurt either.
Thank you so much. I havent tested yet but I think your guidance will help. I was taking the design file with all the multiple layers (working file) and adding a cut contour layer at the top level layer. All other layers had different individual layers. So, now Im going to get the design to the size I want to print and save as PNG then follow your instructions on adding the new layer for the cut contour so ultimately two layers. If you're able to find time it would be awesome if you could make a video start to finish for a simple design with multiple layers showing combining the layers and saving as PNG then adding a bleed area so that there is no white on outside of the cut?
For sure. I made a new update to this tutorial about a year ago. I think it might be what you’re asking for. If you click on my channel it should be pretty easy to find. I haven’t had time between print jobs to make many more tutorials. If not let me know and I’ll see what I can do. Good luck
Eric, Thank you for your videos on Versaworks! Your tutorial is super helpful. I have done your step-by-step in this video multiple times with success. However, when I click on Inage Trace my trace comes in as white instead of black causing issue on the cut. Do you have any suggestions as why my trace is white instead of blank?
Sure. I’m trying to remember these videos. So when you hit image trace, you want the drop down choice of black and white. Then hitting expand. It shouldn’t matter what color it makes it. You’re going to make the full transparent and the stroke should be a 0.25 magenta from your V/W swatch. Just make sure it’s on the new top layer and not your original artwork layer. If that doesn’t work you want send me some pics of what it’s doing and I’ll try to help diagnose what it’s doing
Seems a shortcut would be to add a layer style in Photoshop with a stroke of the correct color? I wonder if that cut swatch from Illustrator can be imported into Pshop?
I always did separare layers for my print then another for my cutpath and sometime it cut once but often twice. I don't understand. It cut then cut again but backward. Do you know what to do?
I would check your settings on versaworks. It sounds like you might have the number of cuts set to two under cutting controls. If not, then double check your Ai file to make sure you only have the two layers, each with different names, and only one file in each layer. Make sure you dont have any magenta stroke in the bottom (artwork) layer
@@gum082340 I found a way to fix the problem. Select your CutPAth then gos in OBJECT menu, then select Flatten Transparency then uncheck the option Convert All Strokes to Outlines. click OK then save and it will cut only once ;)
What format are you saving the photo in? What program are you using? Try using photoshop or illustrator and set your starting canvas to the exact dimensions you want the canvas to be and a decent resolution like 150 or 300dpi. I’m guessing you’re not cutting it with the machine so no reason to create cut lines.
There should be a check box in your versaworks that says cut image boundary. Make sure that is turned off. If you need more help you’re welcome to email me and I’ll try to walk you through other options. I don’t check the comments on here that frequently. egum_56@yahoo.com

this is by far the best video on how to do this!...hope you're available for any further questions
This is exactly what I have been searching for through youtube, perfect, well described
Same!! All other videos were using illustrator vectorized files.
So Open Adobe Illustrator
Go to Window > Actions
Record a new action and call it PNG
Follow the tutorial till you place the item/position it.
Then Stop the record
Then select the correct layer (that circle button)
after that, create a new record and call it "trace"

File > Save As > EPS >

Click OK
and Also Click on the opaque Option at the top of the original window.
and click OK at the bottom
:)

How do I print a photo a 4x6 on canvas
It keeps changing the width?
Can I override the custom settings and choose my own height and width? 😊

I’m using adobe illustrator and saving as png
I’m trying to do a canvas with 4x6 images in a row if you know what I mean 😊
When I press ctrl A it outlines the entire image(including the white background)
i keep getting a box around my images when i cut...how do i remove that?
