I had to stalk several of your videos to get the name on the guide on your machines. lol I am getting several to keep on hand. Thank you for you taking time to give these tutorials to us!
From what I have read, some of the Gutermann thread made in Mexico can have quality control issues. Gutermann has noticed and will be making that thread in Germany again. Lots of Joan's fabrics used to sell this faulty thread but I assume that's is no longer the case. Sorry I can't back this up by any evidence.
Here you mentioned that yellow / gold fuzzy thread came from a friend’s home? Possibly an issue over there like old age, sun damage, cat pee or ? Just my guess it isn’t “Gutermann” factory fresh. Enjoyed your first Gutermann video where the gold fuzz was building up something awful. I come back to comment Gutermann has different threads. I tried their Toldi Lock serger thread from Joann’s. No fuzzy but not the same as their other, then I found Gutermann Mara, what is that? I’m slightly disappointed that Gutermann doesn’t print their “thread weight” on spools. Most of my work needs a little stronger weight 40 or 30 wt is what I prefer.
Thank you so much for your honesty in this video. You definitely don't mix matters. I also wish I could get a collection of thread like you got. i'll have to try and order them. It's gonna be a little costly for me too because I live in the Caribbean.
I read somewhere that Gutermann is going back to Germany. Leading me to think they did use other manufacturers in other countries. Have you ever tested and videoed Coats and Clarks? I'm like you. I like to be stocked up and just hate having to run to the fabric store when I am ready to create. Therefore I just figured out that it's going to cost several hundred dollars plus to get new thread. Depending on what brand of course. What about Aurifil? Very costly thread. Thank you for the video and info. I'm going to look for the Gutermann tower. Our Joannes won't have it until Christmas I can't wait that long. LOL.
Have the same problem found out the one that has on the side made in Germany is the real the one that doesn’t have print on the side that does not say made in Germany as a knock off
I know the needle has a groove in it that the thread is in and if that thread is too big the needle will shred it? Maybe like you say the yellow one has a manufacturing error of some kind. Maybe the weight is not 50 maybe it’s a 40 or a 30 wt? Correct me if I’m wrong tell me what ya think
Good video, I just ordered a assortment of Gutermann thread, nice to know its probably ok. I have some old thread that does the same thing....all rough and doesn't sew well at all....just a thought..thanks again.
I just tested the Gutermann thread I bought from Joann Fabrics a couple years ago and VOILA bad batch. Recent Gutermann I purchased from them, same colors, no fuzz. A friend of mine, who lives in Germany, regularly sends me Gutermann thread and all of it is great. I'm 100% sure it's a bad batch.
I may be wrong and you have way more experience than me because I’m a self taught only 2 years...lol...and this is more of a question than anything else.....could it be the needle vis a vis the thread weight don’t work together?
just stumble on the yellow tread video you did prior to this one... i just received apx 50 rolls of the Gutermann 's treads loll! sure glad it was an isolated case! thanks and you have a new subscriber here!! ;-)
I have used Gutermann thread since 2002. I have never had any problems with the thread like your yellow thread. It's probably just a bad spool or perhaps it's old. Just trash it and replace it.
hi I commented on video #1 - my blue cotton guttermann fuzzed up the other day like your yellow did. I'll have to check where it was made. I was using it to quilt on my 100% cotton fabric. I usually used aurifil so was surprised to see it happen. nothing clicked until I chanced upon your video and saw your problem too. Btw I thought I saw the pink thread you used had twisted around the needle (???) perhaps that's why it broke. not 100% sure. And one final comment, please be careful around that needle!!! I was having heart failure how close your fingers got. I'm a bit sensitive now having had the needle sew right through my finger last Sunday!! my fabric shifted and I went to adjust it quickly...it happened so fast, one second of inattention. my first and last time hopefully!!
what size is that thread...I have a Gutterman Blue and its awful, pretty thick in my opinion so I am wondering if I got a wrong thickness....made a helluva mess...
Again, I repeat..........Thank you so much for your honesty! Hugs and keep the tutorials coming!!!

From what I see, the yellow lint, the busted thread, maybe they’re quality control is not consistent
I have bought Gutterman thread that was made in Mexico !
