@@pook6212 your white privilege was in your inheritance and the fact that your parents could buy a house and maintain its value anywhere in America that they wanted while black people were locked out by redlining and housing covenants that forbid owners to sell to non-whites. Furthermore it is the fact that the value of any neighborhood you live in is made more valuable by your presence and less valuable by your absence. That is why there is no such thing as non-white gentrification or non-white flight, only white gentrification and white flight, neither of which possible without white privilege... ie the fact that white real estate is almost always valued higher than the equivalent non-white real estate. These are but two examples of many that I could cite.

@mike a , I used to live in Detroit and for 15 years I worked for the City. Been to nearly 100% of the city at one time or another. I asked this same question all the time and I still have no idea why anyone would rather live like trash just to get a hand out instead of taking advantage of all the opportunities to get out of living like shit. When you are low income or poor there are tons of programs that can help.
I know a guy that I grew up with that lived like shit, dealt drugs, and pretty much had no future. One day he called me and asked for a ride. There was some new program for low income people for free schooling. We both went down and applied. I had made too much so far that year and was not qualified (I had made just over 4k). He however had zero income (legal that is) and got right in. He took classes in robotics. After years of working for someone else he started his own company. The classes where not easy and the work he did to form his own company was hard and took a lot away from his "free" time. In the end it was all worth it. He recently sold that company for several million dollar. He retired at 50 years old. If he did not make that decision to get off his ass he would probably be dead by now.

Great Depression: white people desperate living in poverty and starving, many unable to find suitable work even in a segregated society that took their black competition off the table... then FDR starts using the power of the federal government to pass out government hand outs. The white response? A call for smaller government? No. They reelect FDR 4 times. That's history.

@@jeanniesmith3356 Thanks for your comment. Before I begin, you do realize both my prior comments were rather sarcastic; or did you miss than, Jeannie? I was showing the absurdity of Social Justice Warriors in their claim for reparations, in the first place. No matter how one might respond, the Left will always find an excuse, regardless if it has any basis in logic or fairness.
I can't help either your assumption that I know it all (far from it) or you know so little ;) They were drafted and would have been shot by their Lt's and non-commissioned officers if caught fleeing from the enemy. SOP in all armies around the world. NYC actually rebelled against the draft, requiring several divisions of Union troops to be diverted from the front. Irish hung dozens of blacks in New York City. It was a sad period in our nations history, all around.
Lincoln (a great President) was willing to maintain the Union if that meant maintaining slavery, though he supported their freedom, with the help intellectuals like Fredrick Douglas and some of Lincoln's personal black staff. As the North was able to strangle Confederate supply by blockading New Orleans and the Mississippi (splitting South in twain), Grants victories in that region and other later victories, Lincoln was able to extend his goals, freeing slaves (only in Confederate controlled territory) with the Emancipation Proclamation. Afterword, the 14th Amendment and others gave equal rights (in name only) to all slaves. Blacks and whites born under similar circumstances have equal opportunities in today's America.
Democrats (Original KKK, Jim Crow laws, Planned parenthood began as a way to kill black fetuses/that's why they're located in poor neighborhoods) took away guns from blacks (just like they want to do to this very day!) and are content with keeping blacks down with policies of low expectations and broken homes (LBJ's good intentions gone terribly awry), bringing unwed black births from 20 to 70 percent today.
Glad to be corrected in any way, as I have nothing personal involved here, other than seeking truths. Nothing lost for me to be proven wrong. On the contrary, would appreciate it.

I can do you one better. White immigrants after 1900 on BOTH sides of my family, not ONE of my ancestors came to this country before 1905. My paternal great grandfather was a slave in Norway, who escaped to America, and married a half-Norwwegian/Irish girl whose widower father brought her over in 1905 to escape Irish serfdom. My maternal grandparents escaped serfdom in England on a refugee boat when a German bomb destroyed thier owner's house, killing everybody in it.
Which means I am white, AND I grew up listening to the horror stories about being whipped, never met an uncle who died az a child to teach my grandparents a lesson in obedience, saw the brands on my grandmother's body, and so on. I am the descendant of slaves *IN THIS CENTURY*, who has served in war in every generation (including myself) to defend your ungrateful whiny asses, do *I* owe reparations?

I never got a dime of govt. help, health care, or food. The one time I did need medical care because I pulled my back out so bad I couldn't work, I went to the health dept. to see if I qualified for temporary medicaid. Know what they told me? Since I have no dependents, am not a minority, am not on DISABILITY (how's that for logic?) and was not over 65 years of age, I did not qualify. When I sat there in disbelief, and asked the black lady who had been asigned my case what the heck I was paying taxes for, she leaned in and whispered conspiratorially, "Honey, off the record, as far as the government is concerned, you just the wrong color."

Later as an adult I found out they were never actually married and the “marriage certificate“ was actually printed at a trophy shop in Georgia. When I asked my brother why didn’t he and Chrissy actually get married he had a two-part answer. “1st to placate Chrissy’s father and second so Chrissy could get welfare as a single mother”. This was just one of many ways my brother “worked the system”. I have written about this in my book “All In a DAZE Work” (The decline and fall of the American work ethic) which is due for publication later this year.

Not to mention the injuries....The union wounded suffered horribly, often lost their ability to earn a living. Loss of a leg, arm, fingers, eyes etc...at that time when able bodied men were the only ones that survived well. People at that time had to plow their own fields if they wanted to eat, raise their own animals, chop their own wood, clear their own land. It took STRENGTH. These wounded union soldiers lost everything they financially needed to survive....My great grandfather was one of those wounded..he went to war to stop slavery and his once prosperous farm had to be run by his 10 year old son...who could not do the work of a full grown man...My great grandfather lost everything out of love for his fellow man to set them free.

If they were promised 40 acres and a mule, let's give it to them! It would be cheaper in the long run. All black families, that can prove descent from slaves could get it. But once they get it, no more hand outs of any kind. Ever.

What about them? Give me a break...too many want something for nothing. Many in our government are willing to trade ethics and honesty for votes. Makes me ill!

The basic assumption of this is that the Uncivil War was over slavery. Although it is good that that mess helped usher in a quicker end to the practice in the U.S., that war was more of an economic one. Plus, the Southern states just wanted to be sovereign, much like in the EU.

I know several people on welfare, and they would like to get a job but they would lose their benefits if they did. One, for instance, has a permanent health problem, and she'd like to go back to her job, for which she has a degree, but she can't because her job wouldn't pay so much that she wouldn't need the benefits to pay her medical expenses. That's a design problem with the way we're giving benefits. It keeps people poor and on that same welfare.

Here in Maryland on the Mason Dixon line living minutes from Antietam battlefield if you look through the visitor center carefully you’ll find some surprising stuff. For example in Maryland there were 17 slave owners listed in a ledger who by the way were black. More shocking were a few of those black slave owners a couple had been slaves themselves recently freed.

Affirmative action is interesting because in many occasions I have observed that it hurt more than it helped. It put people into positions they could not handle and eventually fail. So it cast a bad light on affirmative action program and perpetuated a stereotype that the recipient was not deserving of the "special treatment".

All of my ancestors came to the United State after the turn of the 20th century. They all immigrated to this country long after slavery was old history and long after both slaves and slave owners had long since died. They also immigrated from eastern Europe from countries that had nothing to do with the slave trade industry. My wife immigrated to this country when she was 15. Why should me, my children or any Americans be expected to pay reparations?

  • @danieldoucet9121

Though I agree with your logic, saying that "300,000 people died to end slavery .." is a pretty loaded statement. It's probably fair to say that the vast majority of those who served in the American Civil War were : poor, jobless, drafted through the criminal justice system and probably didn't give a shit about slavery one way or the other because they were concentrating on surviving.

The first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln, stated it best in his second inaugural address in 1865. Speaking of the civil war still raging in the battlefields of our nation, he wrote,"Fondly do we hope- fervently do we pray- that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet , if God will that it continue , until all the wealth piled by the bond-man's two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash, shall be paid by another with the sword, as was said 3,000 years ago, so still it must be said, 'the judgments of the Lord, are true and righteous altogether'".

_President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, as the nation approached its third year of bloody civil war. The proclamation declared "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free."_
Why weren't the slaves freed in All of the *United States* of America?
