  • This video we are diagnosing and repairing my brother's 2002 Toyota Tundra with the I-Force 4.7L V8 in it.
    It came to me with an active misfire, flashing check engine light, overheating, and a coolant leak.
    Im going to show you my exact step by step process and thoughts on how I like to diagnose my vehicles. We are tearing into the ignition system, cooling system, and getting this truck back to tip top shape. MOST IMPORTANTLY, were avoiding a trip to the auto shop for a big bill.
    Sit back, relax, and enjoy the process :)
    Dont forget to check out my Instagram and if you do, id love it if you followed along!

    Learning how a car works is a great way to figure what parts cost and have them handy to fix it or get it fixed.

      @@DayOffDIY I learned a few things when I bought my 1st car only went in reverse for 500 bucks. I spend a week figuring prices on parts, going to junk yards, auto parts, and calling transmission places. Total cost for 17 year old with a budget of 2k all the money saved during the few summer jobs. I gained knowledge that I can pass to my kid in a few years from now.

    Your a Good Brother... I do the same thing for my brothers e36, his wifes Honda Pilot, my dads Chrysler 300 and my e46 330i. I love working on cars, when I am not doing my main gig of being a professional photographer. I am not sure if you were short on time or not, but a brake bleed would have been really prudent as well as I would have also SMOKED the engine because at that high mileage and heat cycles, all sorts of rubber and plastic are near end of life, so a few PSI of smoke will reveal it and offset a new issue. But Good Job with the content and for sharing your brothers IGs as well.

    Nice work Alec! I miss my first gen Tundra. Had a 2006 and was a fantastic truck. Unfortunately met the back end of a box truck and bent the frame.
    I’ve had a few plugs go out on my 2011 5.7 Tundra so not surprised the ole 4.7 ate some too. That is a fantastic engine - million mile proven!
    Make sure your brother doesn’t neglect the timing belt. Kept looking to see what mileage was on the sticker but couldn’t make it out. It’ll be a great workhorse for him for years to come with the maintenance you did.

    Nice work. You definitely saved your brother a lot of money, and it's done right, I have a 2006 Matrix with 227,000 miles and decided to teach myself automotive about 7 years ago. I've done most of the work and hooked up a nice collection of tools, and saved a bunch of time and money. Also, get a spill proof funnel. it is faster (just load it up with coolant) and less messy.

    Haha just noticed that "Butt Cheeks" sign, that's hilarious! Also, everyone knows the proper Toyota for getting Mexican food is a TACOma....dang those look beyond solid. So glad you could showcase how to be a good brother and family mechanic - I bet my own brother would love some of those scorch markers so I'm going to check those out, too!

    • @DayOffDIY
      @DayOffDIY  5 дней назад +2

      Funny story about that sign, the camp that I worked at for Calfire used to be an inmate hand crew camp for many years, up until 2021 when they switched to staffing it with firefighters. They had to make the place more “PC” and get rid of all the inmate stuff, the local hike there was 3 parts, called “upper buttcheeks” “lower butt cheeks” and “reach around”. I was there the first year we took it over and I found all those old signs thrown away in the dumpster. They were hand made by inmates out of beautiful old growth redwood right out of the state park the property is on. I filled my truck with everything I could get out of that dumpster, including those signs, other wooden signs, old metal inmate meal trays, all kinds of cool stuff

      OE for Toyota of this year is both Denso and NGK. My originals had one bank of NGK and one bank of Denso. I have read that the parts bins on the Assembly line had both during these years. I was surprised too!

  • @janpur1417
    @janpur1417 4 дня назад +1

    THERE IS A MASSIVE DIFFERENCE IN A PART THAT IS LABELLED DENSO ONLY OR BOTH TOYOTA AND DENSO. THE ONE WITH TOYOTA AND DENSO ARE FAR TOO SUPERIOR THAN JUST A DENSO PART: OE SUPPLIERS FOR PLUGS AND COILS ARE DENSO, NOT NGK

  • @FreeKanal
    @FreeKanal 3 дня назад

    What caused the spark plugs to be so loose? Did they come back on their own or did the previous mechanic not tighten them properly? Wouldn't it also be better to use constant tension clamps on the coolant hoses? From what I understand, they can loosen due to temperature changes.
