My first postcard lot of 2,000 cards were bought at a garage sale for $20. The lady was so happy and couldn't believe that someone actually bought her collection of cards. I made my money back with just one card! Yard sales and garage sales are a good place to look for cards!

I’ve been considering buying/selling postcards for a while. I have a collection of Colorado & Southern Ry cards I’d started years ago while living in Denver. Figured I’d find a half dozen cards at most, three weeks in and I had five dozen Georgetown Loop cards alone. I like history so this might be a good fit for me… Since part one of this series was a year ago I can “binge watch” the series now. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I may have even purchased a card or two from you recently. Subscribed as well.
So pleased to come across this. I inherited a collection of postmarks - 300 of them, mostly 1900-1910. They were a female relative's collection and all addressed to her during that time. I've been curious if I have anything in them. Thanks for the info.

I'm totally new to you, only a recent discovery getting sucked into the RUclips vortex seeking something semi-unrelated, but found one of your interviews discussing a disappearance and what happened. Just wanted to put the thanks here for this resource; I'm sure even if some of the material was already done, it still is a huge undertaking. It's the perfect kind of content I'm looking for, expertise for somebody with real, in the trenches experience. Great resource, I'll be sharing with folks in my circle, as I begin deep diving into the landscape of ephemera. Seriously, thanks so much!
Interesting point about whether postcard collecting will live on into future generations. As a 22 year old who collects postcards, I can say it is likely to die out in the years (unfortunately). I don't know anyone in my age range that even knew postcards had resale value, nevermind actually collects them. Great video as always, I'll definitely be watching the rest of the series.
There is a glimmer of hope, postcrossing is quite popular now and continues to be. Basically there are sites which generate addresses to send your postcards and receive them from around the world. So far I have gotten ones from Indonesia, Ukraine, Russia, Belgium, Germany. I do it more for the stamps I may get but the postcards I receive are quite lovely and I keep many of them. Over time I will vet through them once I get a few dozen and keep the ones I like best.

Since ebay has introduced the Ebay Standard Envelope, that provides tracking, you can easily add postcards to your existing store without losing top rated seller. There will also be another 6-10 videos in this beginners guide

Unfortunately I did that - threw out a bunch of postcards from my parents' trip to EUrope in the 1960's. Fortunately I did have them assessed as not of much value but still probably could have sold them for 2 or 3 bucks each. The Sarah Bernhard postcard I would know would have some value as I am a classical musician nd got my Masters in Music as well as studied it for years.
As far as "will it die off". I have often considered the same thing. That said, I look at facebook groups and instagram groups and see thousands of members. It makes me think that postcard clubs have moved out of the BPOE hall and gone online.
I think the amount gen xers who will be brought back in from their memories as the first traunch passes. Then also as the population grows we'll get more collectors. If the new war hits then people will want to remember the last time. Post cards and covers are ESSENTIAL to that even if we use different tech this time around.

Some clubs have moved to online meetings, but still an old (reduced in numbers crowd). Postcard show dealer participation is also down.

How can you know for sure you have a $1k post card tho??
Research previous solds/comps and if you're unsure either price it high or sell it at auction.

I've seen those postal cards with the "I" missing. $8 -$15 or so on ebay.
