50 years of Bod books and 40 years of Bod TV! Musical intros by Derek Griffiths from the 1970s TV series. Based on the original books by Joanne and Michael Cole.
I always used to enjoy Aunt Flo's theme when I was little; I thought it was kind of mysterious or slinky, although I felt Flo was very matronly obviously. Now, I just reckon that Flo really gets around town and I like it even more because of that. Themes to live by and die for. (Bod's flute theme is still king - Derek Griffiths you total legend).
Bod used to mess with my head - still does. Still can't figure out exactly what it's meant to be - boy, girl, big baby, what? lol. I'm worrying about this too much
My childhood was largely brought to me by Derek Griffiths (music here), Brian Cant, Oliver Postgate, and Valerie Singleton, with help from Maggie Henderson
Bod's theme: cocaine Frank the Postman's theme: marijuana Farmer Barley Mo's theme: smack Aunty Flo's theme: spice PC Copper's theme: the next morning....
Just had a "Bod" moment out with my brother, he's 50, im 44, the waitress in the cafe asked which flavoured Jam, my brothers face was a picture when choosing Strawberry. We just looked at each other and burst out laughing, i'm sure she thought we were crazy 🤪 xxx
I've been enjoying Willo the Wisp, my favourite cartoon from when I was a wee one, and it's led me here to Bod, the English version of Charlie Brown perhaps! What a tune, jaunty and cute, and yes I remembered it as soon as it played!
@@davidjames579 As far as I can remember, Barley Mow ran a revue bar at the weekends, Aunt Flo worked on the front desk and sometimes performed when they were a girl short -- mainly she was front of house
Fond memories, completely forgot they had their own unique tunes. I used to be a postie, that exactly the music that played on my rounds. I agree with you all, definitely the brainchild of someone who dropped acid or shrooms.
This video was posted 6 years, which would have been 40 years of Bod. Nice to be reminded of a TV show that my kids loved so much. Hope your posts again in 4 years time on the 50th anniversary.
I thought the whole thing was bizarre as a kid: bod’s weird look, the odd music and stories. it’s even worse now. This was created when someone was stoned...
You are absolutely right, the best children's programmes were created by someone on drugs. Bod does look a bit unusual, maybe that is he looks in the books. What I also found bizarre is there are no other children on this, Bod's only freinds are his aunt Flo, Frank the postman, Farmer Barleymow (funny joke) and PC Copper (another funny joke).
Another great surreal British cartoon from the 70s..the decade was full of them..Ludwig, Crystal Tips and Alistair, Willo the Wisp , to name but a few..a joy to be a kid then🙂
I like Farmer Barleymow and PC Copper's theme because Farmer Barleymow's theme does sound like a farm song and PC Copper's theme does sound like a police man's song. Plus Postman Frank's theme is just jolly.
Oh my gosh this was my childhood!!!! So nostalgic!!!! I hope for their 50th anniversary of Bod, they would release a HD film transfer of the series just like what Mr. Benn did, not the videotape transfer version. It would look *AWESOME!!!!* :)
It is a shame that they don't make things like this anymore(as well as trumpton chiggly camberwick green mr benn ivor the engine bagpuss the moomins ect ect)its also a shame that most kids nowadays don't know about this
i know about this, mainly because one of my interests, homestar runner, referenced it (about 2-3 years ago; however, homestar runner's been out longer than that): ruclips.net/video/bq6cxJnXJUQ/видео.html and i'm 15.
I vaguely remember this, when I was tiny, I spent about 9 months in the Children's Hospital back in the late 70s, watching loads of kids TV including stuff like this and Mr Benn.
When you see interviews with the people behind things like this, they never are or were. They're like the most normal, cozy, straight people you could ever meet.
Very appropriate as JLM was usually high on weed in real life (which explains his performance in Dad's Army), so perfect announcer for a drug infused cartoon.
The other half Is watching a show on Netflix called "Bodkin" after a Google that reminded me of something here I am! As an 53 year old I remember this 😍
I want the Farmer Barleymow music at my funeral as everyone’s leaving the chapel.
thats stoner music lol,
smoke rings?
@Bad Lieutenant definitely mate lol
😂😢
You won the Internet today 😂
Agree. I want PC Plod’s on the way in, too
The Bod theme is my mobile alarm when I finish work on a Monday!
Frank the Postman has the best tune. Delivering letters AND laidback vibes.
Yes love a bit of Frank 😎👍❤️🎶

Wow, haven't seen Bod since early 80s on Pinwheel. It was great to watch Pinwheel on sick days from school.
Derek Griffiths = genius. ♡
@stevelee1804 Don't forget "SuperTed".
There's some killer flute there!

And why didn't he have any arms?
Leila Jordan Bod was an inter-dimensional entity
Bod is just Bod
They are beyond concept of gender
Boy baby ?
I know exactly what you mean, man - Bod was weird.
I thought that back in the day as a kid.
Literally my childhood
Aunt flow walks like Theresa May.
Same dance, different beads
That's an insult to Aunt Flo.
She has an invisible walking stick that she leans onto when stepping to her left side.
If she goes through fields of wheat, Farmer Barleymow's not going to be happy
She's her auntie 😉
My childhood was largely brought to me by Derek Griffiths (music here), Brian Cant, Oliver Postgate, and Valerie Singleton, with help from Maggie Henderson
In the early 90s there was a Gallery Singleton in Clerkenwell.
@ - Ooh yeah, good call. Floella!

My god this gives me sheer goosebumps. I so remember this from when I was a toddler a few years after it was made I was born 1975.
Me too!
I was born in 1970, and remember it very well. The theme tune is in Bb major!
@Angela Cooper I love working out keys and intervals to these brilliant shows too.
@@StratsRUsI have a musical background - play violin in a church music group and viola in an orchestra, possessing perfect pitch!

Derek Griffiths, reduced to hawking ads for amigo loan sharks
Aww, is he? I bet he could cash in on GenX nostalgia and do alright for himself. He was (is) a great childrens entertainer.
Bod's theme: cocaine
Frank the Postman's theme: marijuana
Farmer Barley Mo's theme: smack
Aunty Flo's theme: spice
PC Copper's theme: the next morning....
and u wonder why RUclips sometimes forbids stupid people commenting, and makes it Kids Only.
I didn't even grow up with Bod. AND I'LL NEVER GET THAT MUSIC OUT OF MY HEAD. >:O

Your brother must be two years younger than me, as I am now 53; you are eight years younger than me. My middle name is Rosemary!
PC Copper's theme is clearly the best! 😂
It cos it's the only one to get lyrics.

@@davidjames579 Frank the postman gets them too.

Aunt Flo has the best theme because it sounds like strip tease music!

the grooviest children's TV music!
Seems like a lifetime ago watching this in the 70's, distant but oddly familiar at the same time.
Always loved the tune with the postman hehe!
Aunt Flo - you big tease!
Yay - Bod! It actually exists and wasn't some weird MKULTRA type thing I was exposed to as a kid.
Great stuff! 👌
Loved Bod as a kid in the 70s. But my fave was Charlton And The Wheelies.
I used to whistle that theme at a little bald buffoon I worked with in the later 90s. He never clicked.
I love how the hole was completely irrelevant.
There were strawberries in the hole. I swear I havent been taking anything ;)
He's just saying Hello to it. Totally normal behavior.
Cause it was!
Copper walking along and noticed a yob has removed a man hole cover.
Nothing was irrelevant in bod!!😉
Good old days😀
"'ave you got a loicense for that 'ole, Sir?"
oh lawd he comin
Farmer Barley Mow's tune is so sultry, almost burlesque! Aunt Flo is a little bit detective...
I thought maybe Aunt Flo was a Burlesque Dancer in the 50's, but maybe it was Farmer Barley Mow, after all?
@@davidjames579 As far as I can remember, Barley Mow ran a revue bar at the weekends, Aunt Flo worked on the front desk and sometimes performed when they were a girl short -- mainly she was front of house

@mattbod: Most likely, they were all stoned on Thames Television's, Rainbow too but we didn't care. Childhood of the late 70's and 80's was the best.
I didn't know that the Jewish method of execution was used! Throwing stones at people to render them unconscious.
