I'm so envious of your peaches. Grew up next to a peach orchard and the gentleman farmer would leave a small basket of peaches early in the morning during the season for my breakfast.
He also taught me to drive on his Farm All tractor and allowed me to roam free on his wooded acreage.
He was very kind to a child that wasn't his responsibility. Now Mr. Tenny is part of my best memories.

I loved listening to your stories especially the one about the window screens. Matt used his screen to go to the creek to pan for gold. Katy took her screen out so that she could throw stuff out and then shoot. When Matt said that she must take after your side of the family and you responded, I don't remember sifting for gold with any screens - I laughed out loud. You're a beautiful couple.

I grew up in Alabama and didn’t have air conditioning until I was 12 years old. We got a window unit and that first summer me, my sister and brother slept on pallets on the floor. We thought it was amazing.
Before that it was screened windows and doors and big metal Electrolux fans at the foot of the bed. Our car had no A/C and we drove with the windows down, hanging our heads out the windows like dogs! Good memories when we were all a little tougher and adaptive than folks are now. Prayers for your sweet mama.

When I was in high school we moved into our third house on Hwy. 601. Boy was it hot in the summertime! This house had an attic fan. You are correct, they are loud, but we got used to it and opened our windows and the breeze kept us cool enough to sleep. A few years later, Daddy bought a window air conditioner that cooled the kitchen and the bedrooms. That was very nice, too. Before that in our previous house, I still remember how some nights it was difficult to sleep for the heat. I'm with Matt. The cold is easier to take, but the Lord won't give us anything we can't handle.

I have a ton of yellow cherry tomatoes and I've spotted a Cherokee purple growing, I've had about half dozen of Cucumbers so far, potatoes will be ready to harvest in a week or so, strawberries are still producing, 2 little sugar baby water melons are on the vine...not bad for planting in bags on a deck 😊 we were under heat advisories 28th and 29th 97 degrees on thermometer however with humidity feel of 106-110😢 back in the 80s now. Still praying for granny❤

Matt mentioned quail. When I was a kid grandpa's farm was quail central. But, I haven't seen any in years. But a couple of days ago we were sitting on the porch and I heard one call. A few minutes later he landed on our walk. He sat there until my dog saw him and chased him off. I don't know if someone near here is raising them or not. But I hope more come around.

It would be so hot during wheat harvest, but I would take my water jug and pour the water over my shirt and jeans to try to cool off. And when it dried out, I would do it again. Granny and pawpaw did not have air-conditioning but they had a water cooler in the window. I tried to sit close to that window to feel the cool air. Growing up, we had an attic fan that we would only turn on when it was time to go to bed. You would be frozen by the next morning because of all the cool air, it would draw in at night 😊

We didn’t have ac when I was little either, we had metal fans too. Mom put it inside the screen door to pull the air through but I remember some very hot summer days in the 60’s.Just like Matt I cannot stand summer heat, I only make it through by thinking of fall-it is my favorite season! I used to harvest fiddlehead ferns in Massachusetts. But not a Texas thing. Using these gifts from the ground are part and parcel of Appalachian cuisine. Not only do Appalachians know how to make use of foraged foods and native plants, they also know how to do it well. That’s just one of the reasons why Appalachian cuisine is so unique - just like the fiddlehead fern itself. Did you ever use these? In Texas they sell then in gourmet stores for about $10 for a little box!

I made peach jalapeño jam for the first time this year and it’s soooo good! The sweet peach and the pepper flavor are really good together, I’ve only had it on toast so far but I’m definitely going to try it on cornbread 😊

Totally relaxing visiting with yall in the garden . It is stifling hot in central Texas too but I notice your trees don't show even a sign of a breeze . Wonderful show . Many prayers for Granny to feel better . Thank you as always for making us feel part of the family .

They have fans for patios! You should get one that's quiet & have it on you while your chatting. Thank you again for a nice visit!😊

The sounds of summer and extended daylight are my favorite things about summer…definitely not the heat. I also miss the sound of the Bobwhite. Keeping your sweet momma in my prayers.

Back in the day, we had no air conditioners either you said the box fan in the window draw in the cool air and go to sleep and all the way from North Carolina to Michigan. You roll down the windows if you’re hot no air-conditioning in the car either.

The first tomato I had this year was huge and beautiful. Went to get it for a much anticipated sandwich and only found remnants as it had been pulled off and eaten. I’m fixing go jihad on some squirrels.

You & Matt are too cute! I feel like I'm sitting rt there in your shaded but hot yard enjoying a casual visit, maybe w/ a coconut popsickle. Here in Austin, TX, we've some serious heat going on too. 100° w/ nearly 40% humidity at 6:40pm Central time. Didn't dare step outside today. I enjoy your videos and happy to see your garden coming along so well! Have a wonderful wk and show us what you'll be doing w/ the peaches. ☀️🌱🍑🫛🥒🫑🌶🍅🍆🌽
