I disagree - they would just spent it on girls, alcohol and other stuff - not that there is anything wrong with that ;) I think they are so good in what they are doing because they don't have a million dollar budget so they have to be creative and inventive in how they do stuff. This looks just so amazing!
DAngel701 well it would probably be sound to be able to hire more people for a quicker turn around time, but essentially I agree with you... Limitations require creative solutions instead of throwing Money at any problem
@@DAngel701 depends... many good directors came out of b movies scene where they learned make do with a limited budget... carpenter for example and this didnt stop them from hitting it big or working with really talented actors who made it big too
Thanks a lot Jedi Shaw! Well, we didn't do this "professionally". Simply as a passion project in our free time. So who says you can't have a hobby, right??? ;)
I'm about as excited/if not more excited for this than I was for 2049. Been following you guys since the first production blog, and as a filmmaker myself, this series gets me more pumped up and inspired to create than 3 years of film school. Cannot wait to see the final product.
I love two things here, the lighting behind the paintings - that looks so incredibly effective - and the insertion of the video into the paintings. I am amazed it looks as good as it does. It just goes to show how shots like this can be done without CGI! Well done guys; I am impressed! Looking forward to the sound etc . . . SB.
You say you can't wait to tell us more for the NEXT production diary...how do you think WE feel?? "Can't wait" does not do this emotion justice. I am bursting to see you creating more, perhaps more than even looking forward to the finished product. Loved spotting the Millennium Falcon, very authentic, hee hee, Well, I am about to watch this another 5 times probably, sincerely one of the best things on You Tube for me currently.
This level of special effects is incredible. I'm generally disappointed in so many films that go overboard with CGI...the ingenuity and time that goes into the miniature shots makes it all worth it. Thanks for posting..GREAT job!
Amazing dedication . I always look forward to your postings, awesome work.... can't wait to see the finished product ... ( great sense of humor ) two thumbs up.
I was wondering how you got the pixelated look on the ads. I assumed you just added it in post but NO! God damn. I LOVE how much effort you guys put into getting it IN THE CAMERA instead of saying "ah we'll just do it in post". Such ingenuity. The solution for the matte paintings? Genius. Expensive VFX are well and good, but this shit is charming as hell and we need more of it today.
This video made me so happy, you have no idea. Like, my mom always said that I should seek to work with what makes my heart pump harder and what makes me really excited. And I was more euphoric with the projected footage into a painting and the car model than most fans of shawn mendes are in one of his shows
I worked in the film industry for 25 years as a miniatures model maker, sfx make up artist, prop maker and armourer, you guys have alot of talent...in my opinion the best films are made with miniatures well done !
This might sound like a stupid question, but how do you combine the different beauty, fog and search light passes together? It it just the case of bringing them into After Effects and changing the transparency or is it something different? This whole thing looks SO incredible!
Last night I watched every video you guys have. You guys are so inspiring. Also my name is Santana and seeing the box that said Santana was really cool! Keep up the amazing work! I also wanna be a film maker and love how the 80s did it!
I can't even begin to express how genuinely impressed I am. I've always wanted to try and work with miniatures but I'm afraid to write a short film that would involve miniatures because if I can't pull it off the film will be ruined. This is so inspiring and truly amazing work.
I know this is years old but I hope I see more videos like this from you guys - very educational and I'm dying to learn how to do this type of stuff and you guys explain it well. Really hope to see you in Hollywood one day soon
Absolutely incredible--I'm an instant fan. I'm a huge BR fan, so seeing this I was blown away. Your team did an incredible job. I'm in the film industry, and I can greatly admire what detail and work you've put into all your practical effects. Hey Michael, sorry for the late reply, but thanx a LOT for your comments! Glad you like our work and it really means a lot coming from someone in the industry! ;) Cheers from Croatia!
I am actually in love with this!! I'm keen to try it myself but that is one hell of city to tackle alone. You guys are a solid team. Wish you the best!

Fantastic work! Congratulations on wrapping principal photography. Can't wait for the final result but I have been enjoying the process just as much :)
I love you all for sharing this, I won’t let not being able to afford CGI limit my storytelling this is the definition of creativity you guys rock super inspiring 🔥🔥🔥
Guyz, you need to slow down some of the shots if not all of them, the gravity makes small things move faster compare to bigger things, so if you shoot it in like 60 fps and then slow things down a bit it will make the shot look a bit more realistic because everything will look lile it has more weight and will look less like miniature. Love what you're doing btw
OMG, it is awesome! Guys, you're really makes incredible magic! About month ago i accidentally see a movie trailer of Slice of Life, and from then i can't wait till all movie are finished!! To me, its very so cool to see every detail of how you do scenes, miniatures. Thank you for your work!!! And by the way, greetings from Ukraine! :)
Your matte-painting trick reminds me of the original Blade Runner crew just cutting a photo of the Bradbury ceiling window, putting it on a glass and filming the blimp behind it and shooting light through it lol
This is soooo insipiring! I’m in complete awe. This is what filmmaking should be... passion, dedication and a lot of fun. Btw can I ask how do you composite the different passes in post production? What blending mode do you use? Thank you again for these videos; I keep coming back to watch them every time I need a little push : )
I love everything about these videos. What talent! Question. Would a makeshift pulley system (with rope going through a few cheap pulleys) on a pole or wood help elevate vehicles and pull them along smoother?
I dont know, perhaps. But i like doing it by hand because I can introduce all the axis of movement I want in real time. I was spinning it a little at the same time, and that would be hard to set up with pulleys. 😉😉
Beautifull work guys! Funny and and inspirational. I did miniatures for a lot of movie and TV stuff including my own feature Nydenion. But this really blows me away as Blade Runner is my all time favorite movie. Keep up the great work!
For the scene with the car landing, couldn’t you film several motion control passes without the car, and then add a single pass with the car? Then combining the passes, there wouldn’t be any issues?
Watched a bunch, but still wondering how you got the flying cars going through the city. One could imagine long horizontal string highways to run them on but something says...no.
