Hope’s Home Respite I am a single working mother of a now 8 year old boy named Reece Flemming. My son was born with spastic deplecgic cerebral palsy, (wheelchair for mobility) he is also visually impaired, and has a seizure disorder. This means that I feed him, I dress him, I bath him, I change his diapers, and I also medicate him every 8 hours. As a single sole caregiver to Reece, with a full time job, and my part time business on the side, I get zero breaks. No sick days. Hope’s Home respite is a god send. If it wasn't for Jacqueline Tisher, and her dream and determination, and dedication for these now 3 homes in Saskatchewan, I personally don’t know where I would be. I constantly ask myself, “If Hope’s Home didn't exist would I be able to go to work? or would I be stuck at home on welfare? Would I have that one 24 hour break that I can actually have a normal shower, and just sleep?” A lot of families with healthy typical children don’t understand the struggles and 24 hour care that goes into being a parent with a child who has medical needs. Just to go get groceries for my son and I, I usually wait till my son is in respite, because taking him out in a wheelchair while pushing a shopping cart, and add snow conditions to that is impossible. The care that Hope’s Home respite provides is THE BEST I’ve ever experienced hands down for my son. The love is there. Something many care homes lack. We live in a time where every community needs these homes for children, this shouldn’t be such a struggle but an option. I feel very blessed to have Jacque in my life and the blessings she has brought to all these families across Saskatchewan. I truly believe things happen for a reason, and you learn why later. Rachel Flemming.
