The AMA films that were made in 70s and 80s did a great job of promoting the hobby/sport and also provide a great insight to the history and evolution and reminds me why as a teenager I fell in love with model flying that exists still today
I still pull those old antennas out. Lol,,, I got a couple a dinosaurs In my collection. Those ni cd batteries don't give up so easily, so I charge them up every once and awhile and pull out that antenna!
I had a Pitts special just like this one I loved it I had it for five years and one day I did a nice smooth roll and a loop and my top wing broke and it went to the ground noise first and I cried after I got home I got mine as a kit took me a long time to put it together me and my mom put it together it was are last plane me and my mom ever put together she always loved putting the monacoat on for me she did a pretty job at it she done every airport I put together and my mom ended up with pancreatic cancer and lost my mom and it killed me my hart hit the ground when it crashed I wish I could afford another one I use to race ump modified’s professionally on dirt I was hit buy another car and I hit the wall sideways and flipped me in the air and rolled nine time’s broke my neck in three places and then broke my right leg and broke my left arm six ribs and my collarbone I was air lifted to the hospital then that’s when I found out that I was born with MS and then on top of it all I have now spinal cord damage had to have three surgeries now I’m paralyzed from my left side of my face to my left arm down to both of my legs but I still fly airplane’s I still have my little 40s and my raptor 30 helicopter and some of my RC trucks and cars but I don’t feel sorry for myself at all I get out none stop and go lol I just loved seeing this Pitts special it reminded me of my mom again I was 20 when I had my plane and now I’m 45 years old now and love fun lol
Aw dang dude that story kind of messed me up,, your pitts crashing, your mom dying and your accident that left you paralyzed but I'm glad you can still enjoy flying RC!
I have not watched this video, I have watched a gem. And gems are created by stone cutters. Stone cutters are extremely skilled. I am sooo glad this type of video has gone extinct. Thank you for posting this joke.
I'll put any of my electric plane's against any of these.. speed is king with electric. Plus my 1/4 scale c47 is electric and flys perfect. Oh and my 8s rare bear has now gone 206 mph. And most of you that say gas probably meen nitro. Oily messy shit.. I know because I've been there done that
I love these videos except the part where they try to give everything titles such as the title of this video. Nobody involved in the hobby uses any of these characterizations. I saw one on control line the other day and the narrator gave every type of CL plane a unique name as if it was commonly used even though nobody has ever used any of those names other than the narrator.
I don't like gas or nitro ether, Steam powered all the way baby!! Steam powered model RC boat club member here. love the shove coal in that steam engine.

The best hobby to be involved in imo
thats what you call pioneers!! thanks for making this hobby so cheap for us, the people of the 21st century👏👏👏
Love that Stinson model U!
Ah yes, the good'ol days of pulling out the antenna on a 72 mhz radio!

I like it when they show graceful landings with retracts working properly.
this soundtrack is awesome. I love these little time vaults. lol
Very realistic take off and landing..smooth and fluid...bravo😉
good video . I have seen The Blue Angels Fat Albert fly 3 or more times , and I got pics of my dd with the Stinsen trimotor
I notice many were using Futaba FP-102 . Best radio control gear I over owned !
That c-130 is huge!!
Jeff Kayes voice makes me want to smoke a cigarette and drink a cup of coffee
the good old days
I’m gonna fly this year wearing tube socks with yellow stripes thenthe good time will be back

Love the tube socks
I love how they had NO clue where electric would go 😂 the weight is SO much less.
I love how YOU have no clue of YOUR future. The freedom will be so much less. Poor America.

Amazing!!! Do you know when this documentary was produced?
+Guilherme Zanela i too would like to know production date.
this video was produced around 1986 or 1987
The narrator did work for nfl films
On the description: "...C130 with 120 ft wingspan" ==> *Whoa!* That would be over 90% scale. You surely mean 20ft, *not* 120ft. :-)
+corisco tupi yes thank you!
Sailplane 🌪️
Some unusual aircraft.
How cool is this no gyros no 2.4 just what you can dream.... Oh to be six and covered in balsa cement
No no gyros existed. Mechanical gyros tho
nice :-)
shame the modeler got Fat Alberts nose wrong , But these films are wonderfully written and produced
What year do these films date?
70 to 80s
This modern electric stuff would not take off
😅
I also fly gas... electric is for indoor... I wonder if a 0.3 Cox would be good for indoor
all mine are electric too. i hate starting, tuning engines and if running nitro its expensive. electric has came along way since this video.

Why are they all holding their radios so strangely?
I bet you that plane could carry a human

Did anyone ever call themselves an "aeromodeler"?!
+ToyKingWonder lol
What is it with the guys bouncing around and running all goofy in their short shorts? Geez!!!!
ToyKingWonder they don't do shorts n socks like that in public no more lol.
How old is this? Everyone still on 72mhz and Dave Brown is almost skinny. haha
I still don’t like electric.
you dont have to, hobby is big enough for everyone and the different type of modelling they like. what a fantastic hobby. all inclusive.

Musical track are desirable bit all r/c modellers and enthusiasts preffer to listen to is a lot of noise, smoke and dust...
"Diamonds in the sky" must be the most meaningless title ever.
Those were the real days of RC hobby. You built you plane and were proud of it. Now it's all a cheap plug and play garbage foam toys.
But how many made their model from planks of balsa, not preformed kits? And how many got drunk on dope when covering the plane?
@@phapnui kit building is still way over gluing a foam plane together

Dave Platt 15:57?
Maybe but I don't think so. Hard to tell really. I've met him but it was years after this video.
It is Dave Brown who appears at 15:57
