I doubt this kind of movie are representing anything common or normal in Chinese society. It's probably a bunch of recycled tropes that are way over exaggerated for the sake of drama. They probably take things that are annoying and common in real life, but usually aren't actually harmful, like a mother in law being passive aggressive toward her daughter in law, and amplify it. A lot. The audience will still relate to the situation, but it's not an accurate representation of reality. The kind of abuse the female leads in this types of movies are subjected to is not only very much illegal, it's also very hard to believe this kind of thing is actually real. If nothing else, the characters in this kind of movie are remarkably unreasonable, and the plot is usually full of glaringly huge holes.
This one twist in & out & back around and retwist. Unfortunately it shows major lies believed, abuse because of it. 😮 Then it flips in another direction showing more hidden lies & how she was abused when she was young. 😮 Only one thing stopped me from wanting her to stay with the ML2, glad they worked through that.😢 I admit I had to shut it off & restart it on another day. I'm glad I finished it. It was hard to watch in places. The ML with his mini-me stole the entire movie.❤❤❤❤❤❤😊 These two ML's are always excellent, FL played her part well, evil adopted mother even did well, both real mother's added some humor ..... and mini-me steals your❤❤❤❤❤ So thank you.🎉🎉🎉😊
I think what this kind of plot get wrong is that it assumes that so long as the ML falls in love with FL by the end, all the harm he had done to her before that can be erased. But that's a misconception. If he truly realized the way he'd treated her was wrong, he should go to therapy and learn not to repeat the same mistakes in his next relationship. The harm that's been done to FL can't be erased. She's already experienced it. It's a trauma that'll never go away. Love can't make up for it, especially if this love is attached to the face of the source of your trauma. But more than that, his behavior wasn't just hurtful, it was downright criminal. That's domestic abuse. He was able to escape the legal consequences of his actions, but that doesn't mean he didn't deserve to go to jail. Because he did. So, their getting back together at the end isn't at all satisfying. That isn't a happy ending in my books. To me, that ending was a tragedy. FL was back under the influence of the people who hurt her and her child the most. It's a nwe cycle of abuse waiting to happen.
