The NY Transit Museum occasionally runs special "Nostalgia Rides" for ticketed customers! These trips provide funding for the continued upkeep, restoration, and maintenance of the MTA's beautiful and comprehensive museum train fleet. Interestingly, most of these trains have passenger-accessible front windows, allowing riders a great view of the tracks ahead.

The kids going crazy over the Redbird is hilarious 😂
There is a couple of the R62AS in the yard aswell and the R127s.
Sometimes when I ride the 2 train to Wakefield 241 street and stopping at Gun hill road it reminds me of the old 8 3rd Avenue Elevated line coming in and out of Gun hill road 🛣️ . Alots of people are missing the old 8 3rd Avenue Elevated line. It's not the same anymore with out the 8 3rd Avenue Elevated line. Nothing cannot replace or take over the 3rd Avenue Elevated line anymore. No matter how much they run buses over there.
Wow
Gave me hope for the future.
Lil' Subway Buffs😄
Me at their age: That brand new train is called a wha? R46?🤷🏽♂️
Hearing the PURE JOY in the children’s voices is what really made this video so enjoyable. What an interesting ride through the yard!!👍🏽👌🏾
Yes, Old South Loop even tho it's abandoned it can still be used
it was abandoned and vandalized, from a clip posted a few months ago. Glad they cleaned it up and restored the moving platforms.
used by 5 trains today when they terminate at bowling green
Thanks Captain Obvious!
@@843Reboot they go though the inner loop and the platform has been closed since the 70s
@@alexthemtaandr211weatherfa2 false. platform reopened in 2012 after sandy and closed in 2017
As loud as a class trip in a school bus! lol
Loved it when the people got excited at the Redbirds lmao. They also really cleaned the South Ferry loop station prior to this trip. Hopefully more trips go to this station!
Nothing like the sound of a Low-V in a tunnel. Sounds from me being a child growing up in NYC during the '50s-60s.
This kids when they saw the redbird! I wish i was there to see it. Love train geeks around my age! Never get to see them, all the people i know are more interested in TikTok lol
This brings back a lot of memories of when I, as a kid used to ride in the front of the train and get this view (although not as bright in the late '40's and early '50's)! Thanks for sharing!
The kids knowing what a Redbird is and totally geeking out gave me more hope for the future than the Government ever has.
50:58. If you're a motorman, throwing it into multiple HAS to be a great feeling. 72 - Times Square is one of the best runs.
Those kids really like Redbirds 🗿
who doesnt
@@danjofromnyc4256 exactly i mean like how can you not like redbirds
@@cyrus69 no I do as well
It was there reaction was kinda funny but I do rlly like Redbirds!
@@MrXis ok
Thanks for this! The yard loop is amazing!
Thanks for the front view I was on the back car
The ride through the train yard was awesome, and the kids reaction, redbird! redbird! and at the end kid says "I want to go again
I’ve lived in New York all my life, and still do. I’ve ridden the subway all my life, and I still love the subway. No matter how dirty, I always found it so cool. My favorite car was always the r44 or r68.

Coo
Amazing footage! I'm so happy the LO-V around the 239st Yard! I always wanted to see how it was.
I love the flange noises in the NYC Subway around sharp curves!
At 14:35, there is a building on the left (now housing a "Dollar General") that my dad had a business in during the 1950s. He sometimes took me into work with him on Saturdays, and as a little kid, I'd stand in the doorway and watch the trains go by overhead. Some were Lo-V trains just like this one! (I recognized them by their fishbelly silhouettes and whiney motors). To think that, 65 years later, the same type of train went by on the same structure! Thanks for the video!
This is the most entertaining commentary I’ve heard on this channel lol
love the front view vids, keep em coming!
I grew up & still live right next to this yard. I really gotta get one these Nostalgia Rides, hopefully on a Redbird!
Brings back many memories riding on the front car. I wish to be on a ride like that someday when I visit my hometown of NYC again. Love the excitement of the kids! My autistic son would’ve been thrilled to be there! Thanks for this awesome video!
good job!
Too bad they didn't go down the Lex and access the loop from Bowling Green.
Whooow. Sounds like these kids are all jacked up on mountain dew. I'd be like, let me off here. I'll walk the rest of the way.
The kids screaming it’s the Redbirds r28s lol
Great video. Excellent quality
Finally a view of the 2 train route in till it gets to chambers st. Then parts of the 1 train to south ferry. I have been to that loop before a couple of times. The floor moves out and back in.
Awesome
The new South Ferry Terminal is like a replica of the El terminal for the 2nd,3rd, 6th, 9th, Ave. Els I track layout.
How do get to ride on these low Vs ? Saw these trips are all sold out for the year !
I enjoyed that video👍👍
Great seeing this video. I couldn't make this one. Hope more trips like this in the future.
Amazing video
It looks like they restored the loop
I Love Riding R1-9AB, DTYPES, BUs and LoV cars. Can't wait until 1938 Worlds Fair Car joins LoVs.
Wonderful......I love the sounds of the Lo-V cars in the tunnels. For years I traveled up to New York City during the Christmas Holiday Season to ride on the vintage subway trains. Sadly, I'm old, ill, disabled and home-bound now and my days of riding the vintage subway trains are over. This video was especially enjoyable to me. Thank you.
Maybe somebody could explain to me why this non-stop special run never caught up to a regular service train. What was the fare for this special run? Also, where was the starting and dropping off station for the passengers?
Jeff, I'm an old timer too, and enjoy these runs. I'm guessing that this train was slow enough so that it would not catch up to any regular revenue trains. Just a guess. I used to ride these old IRT trains too, and remember the sound they make.
Did I have to miss this for the whole wide world!
yesss after 2 years Front Window view
must have had free all-you-can-drink Mt. Dew for the kids on this trip!
Why dose the kids in the background like the red bird so much?
Me and my brother would’ve love this
Missed these type of Video's. Thanks for this!
I've heard of the " slow boat to China" being faster than this train.
They could easily change a rollsign and time travel generations of trains back to the past or into the future.
What is the future looking like,?
Tell me what's the big serious future in the south Bronx.
Ok
This is magnificent, pure joy, especially the children's voices reminding me of my own time at RFW's 60 yrs ago. The other highlights for me were beautiful views of the new E 180 St Interlocking and Nereid Ave and the yard. Magnificent! Thank you so much!
Holy cow, they cleaned up the graffiti at the loop
When was this? I took the Lo-V last weekend but I didn't get up to 239th Street.
How does one get to ride these vintage trains. I would to take a ride on one of these
ohh nice IRT White Plains Road Express service 😎
cool video onj the low v subway cars and do a video on the r46 last run
Great video, never saw the interior of 239 yd. or the south ferry end since 9/11 , are there videos of trains passing the demolition of wtc during cleanup and rebuilding? Love hearing those trains accelerate. Different sound from above ground and with train underground.
Other than the modern raised ceiling, the Cortlandt station is still more or less the 2002 built station shell and cut-and-cover tunnel built to original Dual Contract specs.
Will there be a timelapse version of this video released in the future?
Nice ride! I actually operated one myself.
When I was a kid some of these were still in revenue service. So were R1's, BMT Triplex types, and others. I always thought it would be awesome to operate one of those old trains.
OMG
I like hearing the people
Loved the commentary of the kids!
Also interesting to see old TS entrance for the Shuttle, WTC, and South Ferry Junction. Can you do more front view vids?
Mommy I saw a RED BIRD! Lamo!!
I did my last snow duty there, ,,,,
do you know when will there be more of these events?
The one is July is sold out but next summer you have to check the MTA transit museum website calendar
What
My home yard
HEYYYY MY NAME IS ON THE Train operator list how come though??
You were in my area but anyways nice
My alma mater high school is in this area. Mt St Michael Academy
Someone please give those kids some aderol & calm their asses down lol
Would have enjoyed the video more if the train hadn't been so slow and if those kids had been further from the camera. Still. always nice to see NYC.
2:35 I was the kid who said “R62”
А почему большинство станций поезд проходит мимо, не останавливаясь? Маршрут такой? Видео класс!
Out of the mouths of children: "I can't believe we're going through a yard!"
It’s so clear it looks CGI.
Why are they looping through the yard? Before they made the loop the track ahead was clear
Viewer suggestion:
Mute audio and set speed for 2x or this turns into a 1h10m birth-control/Ritalin promotional video.
Can anybody explain why its called low v even tho it looks like the camera is on the roof
Low v means low voltage
Frankford train making aAawll stops.
I love watching these videos but why is this train travelling so slowly?
12:15 - Third Av El Turnouts?
239st yard
so they cleaned south ferry
Great video but the kids voices are distracting
Yes ik kids are pure joy and it's nice to hear it, but honestly...tone it down, it's annoying after a few like too hyper
HUH
I HEARD REDBIRD
also whats that train on the left at 6:48
5 train
I LOVE NYC!
I just don't love their government.
I enjoyed this video soo much once I hit the MUTE button.
Dj hammer dont know if you know this. If not get to the Canarsie yard R32 train look recorded it. 1pm. ruclips.net/video/MJwyS3Uu_FI/видео.html
Maybe u can record it leaving. Heading back there now if still there ill make a new video. I really enjoy your work
Nice video just too much talking.
My God, if only these people would shut up. Wow...
Thank God for the mute button
