Seriously.... I've been leading fitness for 25 years with a variety of national certs. I've never heard the planes of motion described so perfectly! Thank you!
You damn right this video was helpful! That was a tough pop quiz, but I got all three correct. Chapter 2 of the book gives good examples of planes of motion, but not as challenging as your pop quiz.
Hey Mat , just came across your channel , even with 2 decades+ in the industry, even prior to the internet. Just to say keep up the amazing work and explanation . I will forward some of of my trainers & coaches in community to your channel. Will drop you and email soon , Regarding Pod or YT Q&A Cheers .
It made it so clear for me the axis explanation. Now I draw an imaginary rod through the plane and I can figure it out. I made a mistake with the chess press because I imagine the elbows against the body so the axis was going through my shoulder so I thought it was Sagittal. Thanks!!
Tell functional exercises example for transverse plane glute, I do banded side lying clams which are great but want powerful exercises. Like you I have also gone through Glute lab though it doesn't have functional ex.
@TheMovementSystem Thank you so much for this!!!!! Been scratching my head for hours and every video I watched made it even worse but your hallway analogy did it for me!!!! 👌👌👌👌👌👌
In routine design should there an importance given to develop in the planes? I had someone once tell me to include rows with the pull downs to develop in that line of pull. It kind of confused me because I was including a pressing/pulling (agonist/antagonist) with the pulldown/bench.
In the chest fly example, doesn’t the motion occurs in the anterior to posterior axis, not superior to inferior….? The arms move horizontally, away from and toward the chest, involving anterior and posterior movements rather than superior and inferior.
Issa says lat pull down and pull ups are in the sagittal. Issa also say the push up and bench press are in the sagittal plane as well. Nasm says they are in the traverse 🤔🤦🏿♂️
I never comment on youtube videos normally, but I have to say this was so useful. I kind of understood the planes of movement but couldn't apply them to examples but the CORRIDOR analogy made it all make sense.
Thank you so much for this. I’ve been studying this for ages and on paper it just does not make sense! For the first time I’ve been able to correctly answer which plane of motion an exercise is in!

the hallway analogy just made it all click. thank you so much
You're welcome!
EXACTLY!!
bro yes I was getting sagittal and frontal mixed up
I completely agree! Thank you

Wow. Thanks!
I cannot thank u enough. The hallway example hit a homerun. I been struggling understanding this for a long timr
You explained this better than NASM did. Thank you, sir! I was getting hung up on the planes of motion and it was hurting my NASM quizzes
seriously.
Who doesn’t love simple! ❤
Excellent !
The narrow hallway : I won’t get frontal & saggital confused Any longer.
Thanks so much
I'm studying to be a CPT with ISSA, and immediately your video made it click in my mind what movements in each plane look like. Thank you =)
This was so nice to go along with my textbook. I was so confused.
Glad it helped!

Appreciate it my friend!
Good info!
Thanks!
Very Helpful.
Great information! Especially the importance of training all planes of movement for a strong strength foundation.
Thank u so much for sharing great video
Thank you so much, sir.
Thanks for watching👍🏼
this is SO helpful
Really like the quiz questions incorporated into the videos. Very good engaging tool. More of this please!! Great work 👍🏻
very good video man, thank you for explaining the planes of motion so well
It made it so clear for me the axis explanation. Now I draw an imaginary rod through the plane and I can figure it out. I made a mistake with the chess press because I imagine the elbows against the body so the axis was going through my shoulder so I thought it was Sagittal. Thanks!!
Thank you so much !
Outstanding explanation!
pe mock exam tomorrow, hallway method is the best icl
Just make sure you're facing forward in the hallway:)
Dang that was straight to the point, thank you!!!
thank you
I had a feeling you'd explain this so well lol
Thanks!
When performing a double bicep curl in a crossover is elbow flexion still in the sagital or is it considered frontal?
You’re amazing
I have to get that tshirt thanks.
The study guide I have says the bench press is multi planar
Some organizations will classify based on the primary plane of motion
Tell functional exercises example for transverse plane glute, I do banded side lying clams which are great but want powerful exercises.
Like you I have also gone through Glute lab though it doesn't have functional ex.

Please add subtitles. Because you speak rapidly and I face difficulties to get it.
You can turn subtitles on as well as watch at a slower speed if you want. Use the settings button.
@@TheMovementSystem that is what I'm doing but to download in my gallery with subtitles it would need to be uploaded with subtitles
None of these exist. Each one is relative to the parent joint which changes the reference frame constantly.
best one so far
Thanks!
You just taught me more in five mins than my applied kinesiology professor did all semester
This 'hallway' thought process is great, I finally understand. Thankyou so much for sharing!
You're welcome!
Thank for th video, just watched it and this is the easiest way fore to remember it all wiuth your hall analogy
Thank you! Yes, the hallway analogy was simple genius - I've finally understood movements in relation to the planes.
You’re welcome!
extremely helpful
I just could not get my head around the planes whilst revising for my anatomy exam. Watched this once and it’s finally clicked. Thank you so much 👏🏻
Please post a Video on autogenic and reciprocal Inhibition...
Good idea!
The hallway analogy was spot on! I appreciate you! Thanks!
I thought the frontal plane movement of the shoulder is called abduction because you are moving away from frontal plane
That is true
The information was very clear and easy to understand, thank you very much. Helped a lot 👍🏻
Great info
So Helpful
The hallway example is amazing. Why aren’t you a teacher?
RUclips professor
a lil confused how is the lat pulldown a frontal plane if its not going side to side
The elbows are going side to side. So if you were in a narrow hallway your elbows would bump into the side.
@TheMovementSystem Thank you so much for this!!!!! Been scratching my head for hours and every video I watched made it even worse but your hallway analogy did it for me!!!! 👌👌👌👌👌👌
I have a massage workshop at the weekend and this has helped me remember the planes no end!
Thank you for this! Great upload mate 💪

Very helpful had doubts on chest being transverse but this explained it why some exercises are
In the chest fly example, doesn’t the motion occurs in the anterior to posterior axis, not superior to inferior….? The arms move horizontally, away from and toward the chest, involving anterior and posterior movements rather than superior and inferior.
super helpful thank you:)
You’re welcome
Thanks for this Tutorial 👍🏻👍🏻. The test at the end was particularly helpful
Issa says lat pull down and pull ups are in the sagittal. Issa also say the push up and bench press are in the sagittal plane as well. Nasm says they are in the traverse 🤔🤦🏿♂️
Thanks excellent video
Thank you!
Thank you for your explanation it made my biomechanics class click into place
so what would be a full body balanced weights workout ? can some list a few bodybuild exercises in each ?
Are hip ad&ab at 90 degree hip flexion mainly the transverse movement?
I never comment on youtube videos normally, but I have to say this was so useful. I kind of understood the planes of movement but couldn't apply them to examples but the CORRIDOR analogy made it all make sense.
Appreciate the positive words my friend! Glad the analogy was helpful for you
amazing explanation thank you so much!
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 thank you so much , you make thinks more easy 😍
Great video. But they need to rename these planes. The names don't comply with the actions
Thank you for that quiz at the end. It helped me think practically about what I just heard from you.
I am preparing for ace exam and dis video is very helpful to understand all plans of motion
Amazing description please keep going 🙏
Kindly give examples of exercises that come in two planes at a time
Thx for keeping it simple! Straight to the planes ;)
Thank you so much for this. I’ve been studying this for ages and on paper it just does not make sense! For the first time I’ve been able to correctly answer which plane of motion an exercise is in!
Yes🙌🏼
That last question was tricky
hallway - epiphany moment - thank you!!!!
Good explanation, thanks 🙏🏼
Thank you so much this helped a lot busy studying a gym instructor course
