    I just did my carb, took maybe an hour with setup plus I soaked the main jet (totally clogged) and emulsion tube in carb cleaner for 20 mintues. I cleaned the fuel tank and once all back together it started the first pull. I did notice that it backfires occasionally when going from full throttle to slow quickly.. can't wait to try it out on the water.

    I just did mine today just bought it yesterday but didnt know there was or take out that emulsion tube starts first pull so in order not to fight with those 2 gaskets again ill just leave it. You don't need a barrel to run it but it would be a lot quiter that way.

    you should also tell that customer to change out the ANODS on the lower unit ! they already look like they are in bad shape from the salt environment .. The “ Anods “ help keep the corrosion in once place instead of eating away at the engine of lower unit ...
    a lot of the bigger engine have them internal and external like this engine does ..
    another thing is you should use Marine grade lower end oil , they come with anti corrosion additives .. that lower end hasn't been change ever judging how black it is lol ..
    you want to change your lower end unit every season or if your in the warmer climate ever six months .. if you do the oil will still be clean . even if its clean its good practice to change it ! there is a lot of Science behind it ... feel free to look it up if you want to ..
    they sell a lower end unit pump for like 7$ because they want you to fill from the bottom up ..
    Sorry for so many comments lol Not trying to act like a MR know it all just trying to be helpful on this platform ..
    Cheers everyone !

      No, but being in water when you run it simulates more of a real life situation, so you can see if it runs properly under a load.

    another helpful tip IF you have a big gas tank that you can’t take out or its just a bitch to do ,, DO this !
    Drain the tank go out and BUY some SHOP paper Rags from SCOTTS its what I use ..
    next though a bunch of them them in the tank and Grab you air gun with a long tip and stick it in the tank at a angle or until you can get the rags flowing in a tornado affect this does a hell of a Job on cleaning out any tank ! .. then to remove the rags just use a mechanic grab tool with the claws that spring out you can pick those up cheap cheap from any parts store ..
    this trick is like having your own little Smurfs helpers whipping your fuel tank clean clean lol ...
    Hope this was helpful to someone !

  • @svbarryduckworth628
    @svbarryduckworth628 10 месяцев назад

    Surprised you didn't change or at least check the spark plug.
    The idle jet on these are the smallest little needles ever and plug up pretty easily causing issues off idle just as the clutch engages. You need to use a small torch to get the EPA cap off before removing it to clean and adjust. The powers that be don't want us common serfs adjusting this jet but they do gum up if you leave old alcohol-content gas in them. Avoid fuel with any alcohol content if you can find it in your area.
    There are a few videos here that show the process of removing this EPA cap without the tiny screwhead autoself-destructing which it is designed to do when "tempered with."
    The bowls on these rust something terrible and the bottom needle drain seizes up. The cost of a new bowl is a sizeable fraction of what a whole new carburetor goes for new. Aftermarket carbs are a little cheaper than genuine Honda units that run about $90, and dispense with the fancy needle drain and use a simple threaded bolt plug instead . I wish I could just buy the aftermarket bowl for $10, but ai have seen whole aftermarket carbs on ebay for what Honda charges for just the bowl.

    • @machinesnmetal
      @machinesnmetal  10 месяцев назад +1

      You can get carb bowls for free off of GC lawnmower engines it's the same one. Your mower shop will have a hundred of them in a milk crate in their used parts room.

    • @svbarryduckworth628
      @svbarryduckworth628 10 месяцев назад

      Good to know, but it seems the GC carburetor bowls don't have drains. The drain comes in very handy out in the field if water gets in the tank. It'll get you home with just a quick flush to clear the bowl.
      We live full-time on our sailboat and this motor the our dinghy make up our "family car." We have learned to close the vent and the petcock every time we shut it off to keep rainwater from running right in. Even when the vent is off there is a little water sitting in the cap waiting to run in the moment the vent is opened. We blow it out with a puff of air if there has been a recent rain. Many crowded marina dinghy docks have "motor down" policies to protect inflatables from prop damage
      The gas cap on the newer 2.3hp versions with the charcoal filter inside them really are a terrible design. I wonder if gas caps from other honda engines fit on these outboards?

  • @jlt7438

    Rusty parts on a honda outboard- not like any honda I have owed. I suspect this is a chinese version not made to normal honda standards.
