Tell me about it. Complete travesty that Capriati won the ITF and WTA POY awards in 2001 when Venus won 6 titles (Miami, Hamburg, Wimbledon, San Diego, New Haven, US Open) to Capriati's 3 (AO, Charleston, RG) and won titles on every surface.
Davenport won 55 titles to Capriati's 14, Davenport won the WTA Championships while Capriati never even reached a final, Davenport made 4 additional GS finals while Capriati never made another after 2002, Davenport won 11 Tier 1 titles to Jennifer's 2, Davenport spent 98 weeks at #1 to Jennifer's 17, Davenport was year end #1 four times, Jennifer not once. I could go on and on.
I don't think these two played each other often all.... I can only think of three matches, this and the Miami final in 2001 and the US Open semi in '01...
between Davenport and Capriati, it's a close call because they both have three grand slam titles and gold medals at Olympics. However, what makes Davenport better than Capriati is her sportsmanship on the court and personality off the court!
and not to mention that Lindsay had a far, far more complete all-court game than Jennifer (i can't count the number of times that Capriati backpeddled away from the service line back on to the baseline, especially playing the likes of Serena / Venus / Henin) and ^vastly^ superior serve. Davenport had far more options in her game than Capriati. I always had the sense that Venus, Henin and Serena respecetd Davenport's game - in marked contrast to how they viewed playing Capriati...
Wow...clearly Lindsay was greater than Jennifer based on these stats. I always had them equal because of the 3 majors/ 1 Olympic gold a piece but I definitely didn't have the full story lol.
Paglia444, Nobody stays on top 4ever. Venus was 20 & 21 yrs old when she won 2 Wimbledon & 2 US Open Slams & also a handful of other tournaments. Venus should've finished the year-end Number 1 in the world during the years 2000 & 2001 but unfortunately she didn't play as many events as Hingis, Davenport or Capriati. The stupid WTA tour rankings computer rewards quantity & not quality. Venus had a Great career & there's nothing sad about what she achieved in professional tennis.
and Davenport had a much, much better backhand than Capriati. She was fabulously fluent on that stroke and it hardly ever broke down. Though she was balanced off both wings, Davenport could (really) do anything with her backhand and i have watched matches in which she hit more winners of her backhand than FH, which is quite unusual for most players. Compare that to Capriati, who ran around her forehand as much as she possibly could, leaving her badly exposed against Henin / Serena / Davenport.
Venus clearly does not like Jennifer Capriati and I can't blame her, Jennifer's attitude as usual stinks. The best thing here is Venus never lost to Capriati she won the head to head series 4-0. After this match in New Haven Venus destroyed Jennifer again in straight sets at the 2001 US OPEN and went on to win the title there too.
i know, she's been good for some time, actually a limited amount of time. She's been overrated by the american media saying in her early teens that she will be the greatest american player in the 21 st century. Well didn't happen. I for one knwo three american players who've had much better resumés than her since 1990
Never liked Capriati...looking at calls that were in like she wanted to say something about it...so overrated and just an overall bad spirit..I was glad at every time she lost. Still don't understand how she got into the HOF over Kafelnikov

Venus gave a very classy dismissal of Capriati. REAL TENNIS! Thanks for this upload my friend! :)

This old Venus could run down anything. Love watching her athleticism.
Venus, Serena and Davenport all have much better resumes than Capriati.
They also played once in the late 90's. Only 4 matches, all of them won by Venus.
jennifer is always arguing some call

thanks! i forgot about this match
Those where the days!

Kind of weird; after 2001 they never played again. But Serena and Jennifer sure played a lot...
Thank you so much for this match! Do you have the final against davenport? That match was even better!
Wow...clearly Lindsay was greater than Jennifer based on these stats. I always had them equal because of the 3 majors/ 1 Olympic gold a piece but I definitely didn't have the full story lol.

It's just sad that Venus has that syndrome that makes her tired. Otherwise, she would've dominated the court
capriat's handshake was kinda salty!
Venus can't play anywhere near this level anymore. Sad.
You're welcome!
AGREED, and the record books prove it! :)

I also forgot to mention Lindsay owns Jennifer in the head to head 9-2 I believe lol.

Not at the moment. Soon, hopefully.
Funny how the video quality increased as the match progressed
i can name only one....Serena
oh, i misread it. i thought you were talking about 3 american players better than VENUS lol.
Overrated? 3 slams, #1 ranking, and Olympic Gold is not overratted. And spell her name right: CAPRIATI!
And Venus....

I miss Jennifer.
Funny how Venus has always beaten this overrated player Capriti
