Our tub has to be 35 years old. I had no idea how to unclog the tub drain. Wow, covering the vent and using the plunger worked like a charm. Thanks a bunch.
Thank you so much I just did this and it works:) My bathtub had been clogged for a week and thanks to you I can take a shower without having water coming above my ankles:) God Bless
14 years later…..you’ve helped me. Two rounds of Draino and two of another drain declogger and I still had standing water. Followed your steps and five minutes later water was flowing. Thank you 🤎🙋🏾♀️
Omg y’all pro life tip!! If you can’t get that circle thingy (I forgot what it’s called) off, fill your tub up all the way. Like literally until it almost overflows. Then plunge. I’ve tried everything and this finally worked for me
It Work! First I took out the hairs in drain. But still won't drain. Then I try the Plunger, with some water in bathtub to flush the water through the drain while plunging. Keep Plunging fast and hard couple of times. Worked Great! Thanks Again!
Thanks man I really appreciate this video, saved me calling to get it unclogged. i was plunging and snaking but could not get the drain to go. i never thought to put the rag in the overflow but it makes perfect sense to me now. i put the rag in, 3 pumps from the plunger and bam. water gone. again thank you!
THANK YOU! I used a wet rag to plug the overflow drain as you recommended, and it worked instantly. Too bad I didn't look online before half the day was wasted. At least I didn't waste any money!. Again, thanks very much.
THANK YOU sooo much!! I just fixed my bathtub drainage after stressing about it for months! I feel like I accomplished something great this cold saturday morning. God Bless You
After plunging and swearing for 30 minutes I found your vid, covered the hole while plunging and unclogged the drain in 20 seconds. Cost: zero. Savings: $100. You, sir, deserve the Nobel Prize.
Thank you! My drain doesn't come out like that but I just used the plunger regardless and did what you say. Now the drain is running great again. Much appreciated.
I am so incredibly thankful that you took the time to post this. Our tub has been slow draining for ages and finally just stopped draining altogether. I've been in misery for days with 9 people sharing one tub that didn't work. Clogging the overflow was the trick I was missing. Two minutes after watching this video, we have a completely clear, free-flowing drain! I appreciate that more than you know! Thank you so much!
I found it helpful to see the part as you are showing it thank you !!! Hoping my water goes down I’ve used the instapower liquid but more gunk came out after that with lots of water
This works just unclogged my tub using the plunger method with a lil twist on it. At first I was covering the metallic piece with a towel but wasn't air tight enough to unclog it, then I just unscrewed the metal piece where you supposed to cover and stuck a wet towel in it to get a super air tight seal, then I started plunging and VIOLA! IT WORKS THANKS :D
Plunging works like magic. My drain would take an hour to drain after a shower. I poured hair dissolving acid n nothing worked. I plunged n walla...drains unclog immediately 😁😁😁😁😁
Great tips... the visual of the drains was quite helpful for me to figure out what was going on. If anyone is having trouble with the cloth covering the vent as I was, try duct tape... it works wonders.
Just followed the steps you did and it punched whatever was inside right in the mouth...lol now I won't have grey water up to my shins anymore . Thank you
Thank you!!! =D I'm used to getting hair stuck in the drain and usually I can pull the crap out, but this time it was stuck beyond reach. I was trying the plunger, but I didn't cover the vent and I figured it had something to do with that, but I didn't think of using a cloth to cover it up. ^_^ I was able to unclog mine with a couple of pushes on an old type of plunger. =) You saved me from having to ask my stepdad for help. =P New skill added to repertoire.
As far as plunging goes, I have found if you depress the plunger then slide it over the hole and use your power in the upward motion, it creates a suction, taking the pressure off the clog in the trap. THEN depress hard to push it through.
What America needs is a tub drain with an access plug directly below and in front of the drain. Access from the basement (or ceiling hatch if finished) then easily get the snake into the clog that's between the vertical pipe and first curve.
Oh My Freaking Gosh i didnt even think of the towel over the air hole. but after i finished watching the video and tried it my bathtub drains better then when i first moved in` Freaking GENIUS!!!!!!!
Thank YOU... I live an apartment (20+ units) and been having some problems with slow drain/standing water. I tried my min snake but I didnt reach very far, Tried the plunger as shown.. water went down fast.
@TOTALLYRANDOMism a stand up shower drain is easy to plunge because there is no overflow. I have one stand up which is easy to clear with a plunger. The bath tub is a little more difficult because of the overflow.
OMG thank you worked right away! Plugging the vent was the secret that did the trick, mine has more than one opening so duct tape worked better instead of a towel. I live in an apartment and didn't want to have to plan my whole week around a maintenance person coming. PS: Can too much pressure from the plunger damage the pipes?
Plunger is the way to go! I tried two different types of snakes and got one of them about 6 feet into the drain, still didn't unclog. I used the plunger and within a minute the drain was unclogged!
.thanks so much since I have the longest thickets curly hair it clogged the shower and I got mad at every one else and I found this vid and so I cleared everything out
I actually had to unclog my shower recently, and I guess everything was stuck right under the drain, because when I plunged, all the dirt and grime and junk came up through the drain when I pulled the plunger away quickly.
our over flow switch that lets the water stop or drain got stuck with water in the tub. It wont click down to drain the water...we dont know what to do, any suggestions?
Helpful, but might want to redo it with the warning to turn off your main water before unscrewing pipes. Some people have common sense, but not everyone will know the right thing to do. You can tell that by how Frump is in the White House (I spelled it how I meant to, encyclopediacs).
And drain pipes aren't connected to any pressurized water. They drain it not supply it. You probably dont know how a toilet works either but it's okay keep bashing the president since you have no other pleasure in life.
How do I remove my bathtub drain stopper? I had tried several times it continuously turned but it did not come out. What should I do next. It is a 2014 bathtub from Home Depot.
I don't know if this is whats going on, but I saw that sometimes the stopper has a cap on it that can be for lack of a better word, popped off. Underneath is a screw that needs to be undone and the stopper will come out. Not sure thats the problem, but thought I'd share.
aeshir yes he is because his idea of plunging the drain worked like magic. I was pouring industrial strength acid that dissolves hair into my drain all month n nothing happened. But plunging did.
I've been putting off fixing a slow draining tub for months and after watching this in less than five minutes it's fixed... Thank you.

I didn't think of using a plunger. It was actually a quick fix than I thought it would be. Thank you!
Omg y’all pro life tip!! If you can’t get that circle thingy (I forgot what it’s called) off, fill your tub up all the way. Like literally until it almost overflows. Then plunge. I’ve tried everything and this finally worked for me
Thanks! You're a good teacher. Demonstrating with the pipes in your hands made the description of what to do and why very clear.
i never knew the plunger could have so many uses.
thanks so much for this video!
In lieu of the cloth, I removed the overflow drain cap used a wad of plastic bags. Worked great!
This explains the whooshing sound I heard when I tried to do it the first time, lol. Thanks Mr. Miller!
Dear Jesus, this worked! The plunger and covering the vent actually worked! It was easy too. Thank you so much!
For a master plumber this guy has a sweet bathroom.
It Work! First I took out the hairs in drain. But still won't drain. Then I try the Plunger, with some water in bathtub to flush the water through the drain while plunging. Keep Plunging fast and hard couple of times.

Thank you so much! Total life saver. I used the cartoon plunger and it worked fine.
Thank you for showing me what the drain looks like! Gave me much more understanding of how to unclog and where the clog is likely to be!
Nice smile 😁
THANK YOU sooo much!! I just fixed my bathtub drainage after stressing about it for months! I feel like I accomplished something great this cold saturday morning. God Bless You

I used the plunger method and it worked! Thanks Brett!
I can't thank you enough, sir. I was fretting and all I had to do was plunge! Drain is clear, thanks again!
Thank you! My drain doesn't come out like that but I just used the plunger regardless and did what you say. Now the drain is running great again. Much appreciated.

Thank you ! Saved me lots of money today. After trying several other methods, this is the one that did the trick.
Thank you! Love the comment about the old cartoon characters with the red plungers stuck to their foreheads!!
covering the vent and using a plunger worked great thanks so much
Thank you So Much. Telling me about the vent in the tub saved my life!
This works just unclogged my tub using the plunger method with a lil twist on it. The rag in the pipe did it for me. I had no idea. Thanks!
This video was very helpful. Drain Is unclogged using a plunger, heavy gauge wire, hot watet....water flows right down the drain now.
Great job Bret
Great tips... the visual of the drains was quite helpful for me to figure out what was going on. If anyone is having trouble with the cloth covering the vent as I was, try duct tape... it works wonders.
Thank you very much, tried the plunger trick and it worked like a charm!
Thank you so much this tutorial really helped me out a lot, I saved 200 bucks minimum.
Just followed the steps you did and it punched whatever was inside right in the mouth...lol now I won't have grey water up to my shins anymore . Thank you

Very good video... I believe he could easily teach someone how to be a good plumber.
Thank you for posting! My tub is officially unclogged now :) pump worked!

Thank you so much for showing and explain I never seen bathtubs system I got right now I really appreciate for your share

Very helpful and well done video. Thanks a bunch!
For slow drains because of hair, check out The Drain Claw.
Thank YOU... I live an apartment (20+ units) and been having some problems with slow drain/standing water. I tried my min snake but I didnt reach very far, Tried the plunger as shown.. water went down fast.
This guy is a genius! It worked like a charm!!! Woo Hoo! I'm happy :) lol
Thank you for this video. I was able to unclog it with my $15 plunger from Target!
Thank you so much. This worked even though I wasn't able to get the drain cap off :).
ah ha! it was the closing off the air... thank you SO much! awesome video!
Thanks, your video helped me fix my tub!
@TOTALLYRANDOMism a stand up shower drain is easy to plunge because there is no overflow. I have one stand up which is easy to clear with a plunger. The bath tub is a little more difficult because of the overflow.
This guy should get a cookie. Great vid.
Very helpful info, hope it works for my tub

you saved our day .thank you
Worked perfectly! Thanks!
um in my bath, the drain doesnt even come out. how would i fix my clogged shower drain then?
Worked for me!
If unable to unclog you can easily remove the bathtub drain with the EzXtractor tool. You must try it out its amazing.
thank you so much for the info. it help me alot
Plunger is the way to go! I tried two different types of snakes and got one of them about 6 feet into the drain, still didn't unclog. I used the plunger and within a minute the drain was unclogged!
I wish this could’ve gotten demonstrated with different drains
Thanks guy with plumbing diarama on hand
Thank you so much for this video
.thanks so much since I have the longest thickets curly hair it clogged the shower and I got mad at every one else and I found this vid and so I cleared everything out
Thanks very helpfull. IT WORKED
I actually had to unclog my shower recently, and I guess everything was stuck right under the drain, because when I plunged, all the dirt and grime and junk came up through the drain when I pulled the plunger away quickly.
Thank you so much! My drain is clear :D
Thank you - very helpful!
thank you sooo much!! It really helped!
Great video but you left out pulling the plunger out of the trip waste. Some times those being out adjustment or broke can stop the drain.
our over flow switch that lets the water stop or drain got stuck with water in the tub. It wont click down to drain the water...we dont know what to do, any suggestions?
Yayyyyy thank you I didn't have to go buy a snake or draino!
I have a question how I can turn off or turn on overflower
thank you so much sir.
What if you have a whirpool tub so you don't have the over flow?? We also have jets but the drain is clogged. Help!
What if the water is not draining at all? Will these steps work?
thank you!
how do you do that if there is about 1.5 feet of water in the tub?
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!
Thank you.

Thank you, I loved your comment -- especially the Frump part, which made me laugh -- and these days I REALLY needed that :).
Oh you poor souls cant even get our president out of your thoughts even when watching a video about how to get rid of clogged pipes.
And drain pipes aren't connected to any pressurized water. They drain it not supply it. You probably dont know how a toilet works either but it's okay keep bashing the president since you have no other pleasure in life.
Thank you !!
How do I remove my bathtub drain stopper? I had tried several times it continuously turned but it did not come out. What should I do next. It is a 2014 bathtub from Home Depot.
very helpful :)
well I took all the hair out of the way. the water was draining really good then just stop. it's clogged again. make no sence. what should I do
worked!
thank you!!!
What do I do when you can't unscrew the top on the drain? The tub's construction is shady. The stopper is built into it and cannot be removed.
same problem..
I don't know if this is whats going on, but I saw that sometimes the stopper has a cap on it that can be for lack of a better word, popped off. Underneath is a screw that needs to be undone and the stopper will come out. Not sure thats the problem, but thought I'd share.
i can't get my drain thing- grade off- no screw- please help
if you were a master plumber twelve years ago then what are you now. a plumbing god?
aeshir yes he is because his idea of plunging the drain worked like magic. I was pouring industrial strength acid that dissolves hair into my drain all month n nothing happened. But plunging did.
aeshir ....ALWAYS AN IGNORANT JACK ASS IN A Crowd !!!
