Hey folks, I managed to dig up even more Fang/Nack concept it. Check it (and other cool stuff) out in my Team Hooligan BONUS Video right here: ruclips.net/video/NZTd_H_j2OE/видео.html
Fang is the most surprising character to me that hasn't made very many appearances in modern titles. His Classic design is already quite "modern", he'd fit right in perfectly. I also really do love his character and would bring some new ideas to the table. Really wish he was a more staple character.
That might've been what Sonic Generations implied, since the Wanted poster in that game says "Nack the Weasal a.k.a. Fang the Sniper". So "Fang" could just be a nickname.

The accompanying “KRUNCH” in that panel just adds to it. 14:39 Damn I didn’t know they made Fang poison other characters. That’s pretty dark. I didn't know they were allowed to put that in. It makes him very ruthless. They really fleshed out his character in the comics of both Fleetway and Archie. Alongside them I also want the Battle Kukku birds from Tails Adventures to come back again. Perhaps they could team up with Eggman in a game so Sonic and Tails both have to individually defeat each of them. Kind of like how Knuckles has to fight the Heavy King in Mania. Maybe they could even have Eggman and the Kukku’s dislike each other as they both compete to try to get all the emeralds first. I’m going off on a tangent at this point so I am going to end the comment here now.
Fang is a guy I can't help but love. A more comical neutral figure, only out for the money with some degree of a high intelligence...despite being clumsy as well. While I certainly don't think he would kill him teammates like in Archie, Fang is still ruthless when push comes to shove and is a capable fighter. I personally prefer Fang as someone who goes by the JP canon (mainly because they actually make decent scripts for the games), alongside Fang The Sniper just sounding more cool. That and it does continue to carry on the tradition of giving characters names that match their appearance, like Tails, Knuckles, Blaze & Shadow. Also multiple fan interpretations of his voice use an Australian accept and I 100% agree that's how he'd sound like. Basically the TF2 Sniper that's more kid-friendly.
I left out one little detail but your comment reminded me. TOUMA also mentioned they were originally unsure whether to name the character Fang the Sniper because it didn't follow the Name the Animal pattern of Sonic and Knuckles but neither does Tails, which convinced them that going for Fang the Sniper wasn't such a bad idea.

My headcanon is that the name discrepancy is much like the whole “Eggman/Robotnik” deal: i.e., the doctor’s given name is and always will be Ivo Robotnik, he simply has since come to embrace the Eggman moniker that most people In-Universe always called him by anyway. Ergo, Nack the Jerboa (I also love the idea that people just keep getting his species wrong and it irritates him to no end haha) took on the name “Fang the Sniper” for when he’s “on the job”, so to speak. Nice and intimidating and gets the message across, the message of course being that he is definitely _not_ somehow the exact midpoint between Shadow the Hedgehog and Wile E. Coyote. I love him, okay?
Thanks for the comment. A few people have raised the idea that Nack might be his real-name and Fang his nickname and I really like that interpretation.
So, I decided to look this kind of video up because of the 16 Bit Sonic Triple Trouble remake. And... yeah, he's a character who was SORELY underutilized. The characterization in the games is amusing. And I like what the remake did with him too. His motivation being money like in the Fleetway and Archie comics. Eggman bought his services for the right price. (Also special shoutouts to the competition mode for having dialog. "Hey, I can be a hero... for the right price.") And with him being in the upcoming Superstars game.... Hopefully, we'll see him in more games too. (I'd LOVE to see him in a modern Sonic game. Wouldn't even need much design changing to fit honestly.)
Fang the Sniper is the purple weasel villain as one of Doctor Eggman’s henchmen and he returns to the new Sonic The Hedgehog game called Sonic Superstars in Autumn 2023.
My friend and I heard the "being from a different world" bit, and head canoned that Fang/Nack came from the Ty the Tasmanian Tiger universe, as he fits within the game's style.
What if the comic writers decide to just combine the two names. Like one is his first name or a nickname while the other is his last name, like Nack Fang?
I would love to see Fang make a come back, it would be cool to see him as a side villain to Eggman, like some levels end with Eggman and some end with Fang
Sounds great. Also, it's not official of course but there's a fangame knocking around called Sonic Galactic with Fang as a playable character which is pretty awesome.
it would've been so cool if team hooligan was in sonic heroes, and they were just a bunch of crackhead robbers who just wanted the chaos emeralds for their value or something haha
I'm so glad I found your channel. I've always had interest in the background lore of so many of the Sonic characters, and your explanations are excellent. Thank you!
This was a fantastic video showcasing a wonderful character! Fang is my favorite Sonic Character and I love seeing him get the recognition he deserves, though I'll admit this video had stuff in it I didn't know about him, as I've never had the chance to read the Fleetway Comics. Though I've never been a big fan of him in the Penders Era of Archie & I'm not to keen on Nick either. I love the later Archie & IDW depictions of him though, the 25th anniversary Comic that came out earlier this year got him perfectly in my opinion! Personally, I prefer referring to his as "Fang the Sniper" & Seeing him as a Jerboa. I think the name rolls better off the tongue & the moniker suits his character as an outlaw, Sorta' like "Billy The Kid". Like maybe Nack is his real name but he prefers going by an alias instead to solidify his outlaw persona. And the idea of him being a Jerboa is interesting for how unique it is, I legit had never even heard of them prior to looking into Fang's species. And while I will admit the Hybrid idea is interesting, and unique, in it's own right I think the having a single species suits his design better and is far less confusing. Also, given his common association with Casino's & his personality I always envisioned him having a 1930's Gangster/Mobster/New Yorker sound to his voice, like a more aggressive version of Top Cat. An interesting facet of his character touched upon in the manual for Triple Trouble is the reasoning behind his need for an Airbike. Being that he's not as Fast as the other characters, so he needs away to keep up with them. I really appreciate how they referenced his less agile side in the Sonic 25th anniversary comic from IDW by showing him Trailing behind the others while chasing after Metal Knuckles and even showing him as Exhausted when failing to keep up with him. (Which is why he tails Bean to "Get the Bike!" in the same panel) In many ways, Fang is a lot like Sonic's equivalent to Wario. He's a Greedy treasure Hunter who rivals the Protagonist, both in roll & personality, that originated from a spin off title for a Handheld console. The main difference between them being that while Wario would continue to appear in later games, including spin offs and his own series', while Fang got left in the dust in favor of more popular characters. I'd love to see Fang make a bigger come back in a modern game, I could totally see them bringing back Gamma's gameplay Style from SA1 for Fang & his trusty Pop Gun in 3D, or even giving him Run & Gun gameplay in 2D. And who knows maybe he'd even finally get a voice. Heck, I'll even voice him, like for real. (Sega I am a phone call away, PLEASE) Sorry if I rambled on for a bit, this comment turned out to be a bit of an essay, but Legit Fang is my favorite Sonic character (on top of being one of my favorite fictional Characters, full stop.), so it's nice to have the chance to "Nerd Out" over him every once in a while.
Thanks for the long comment, it was a great read. You brought up lots of really good points! In particular, Fang having a 'gangster' voice kind of makes me think of Pinstripe from Crash.
While most fans know he's supposed to be a jerboa-wolf hybrid, something about his western depiction as a weasel just suits him way better imo. Like you said, weasels are infamous for being sneaky, thieving and problematic animals that can take down prey much larger than them, which suits Fang perfectly. Plus, it combines the vicious cunning of the wolf and the small, nibble, swiftness of a jerboa in a two in one package without being too complicated. That's always how I grew up knowing him as. And those weasels from Who Framed Roger Rabbit helped contribute to me viewing Fang in that same light. He'll always be a little weaselly boi to me.
The way I always saw it is, Knack/Fang is a mercenary bounty hunter on top of a treasure hunter. "Fang the Sniper" is his codename that he goes by when working as a bounty hunter, but Knack is his real name. Think about it. Who would you fear more if being chased? Some dude named Knack? Or a guy named Fang the sniper?
Thank you! Just glad to see people enjoying the videos and leaving some cool comments. I've considered doing a video about crossovers and/or cameos at some point, so thanks for suggesting that too.
You don't need to apologise dude, Nack is commonly used in the UK because we associate him with the Fleetway character, who was used way more in that medium than Fang was ever used.
I actually prefer calling him "Fang The Weasel" because of it being a more unique combination of both of his names to avoid confusion, especially after remembering that he was only called Nack in "Sonic The Hedgehog: Triple Trouble" while in every other game had him going by the name Fang, including the power-up that Tails can collect of him in the Sega Game Gear title "Tails' Adventures".
Great video. Can you do a video on mighty armadillo too? He's also a very underrated character that truly needs to be included in a modern sonic game or sega should at least give him his own spin off game because he has a lot of potential and it's sad that he's forced to stay in the classic universe.
@@JohnnyVector JOY! Hell next thing I'll know is you making one about Mighty & Ray ever since they made a comeback. But I'm getting ahead of myself, I am stoked to hear you say that. Can't wait!
I just imagine he really is a Jerboa/Wolf hybrid and just went through many names to make it harder to be tracked down by the law enforcers or smth, "Fang the Sniper" being one of his most well-known identities. Like, imagine this: You just ask him to show all the identities he has chosen and he pulls you out a 50 meters long sheet containing ALL THE NAMES HE USED IN HIS ENTIRE CAREER.
In my headcanon/roleplay it’s fang the sniper and he’s a good guy and a cowboy and loves to drink alcohol and once actually was a villain he was a…. Bounty hunter, thief, treasure hunter (kinda still is), and loves his old mans pistol and is kinda of the sheriff type person of mirage saloon witch is not only where he resides but is also not a train but a actual western town and whenever fang comes to the “modern wold” he’s basically like crocodile Dundee but not Australian and has big old western accent and is mighty’s adopted father.
I don't really care about his species because most of the characters don't look that much like the animals they're based on, but I call him "Fang the Sniper" because it just sounds cooler.
Ive only heard of Fang, and seen them in Mania ofc, thank you for filling me in, very much. :) Oh I totally forgot about the posters in Generations, ope
Nack is my favorite Sonic character. I've always kinda thought of him as the Bobo Fett of the Sonic Universe. The neutral bounty hunter with an awesome design who never does anything quite as cool as you'd expect him too. My main experience with Nack the Weasel was the Archie comics so it's very hard for me to refer to him as Fang the Sniper too. I've also always kinda hated when Sonic characters were referred to as something other than an animal (the Sniper, the Rascal, etc). As a result I've always called Nack's green pal "Bean the Dynamite Duck" instead of the more commonly used "Bean the Dynamite". Cuz . . . like . . . he's not a Dynamite. He's a duck (or at least a "Dux").
Let's just have him called Nack "Fang" the Sniper, kinda like Tails is actually called Miles "Tails" Prower, Fang used as a nickname and his specie isn't specifed when called "The Sniper"
I'd like to see him as an antagonist in a new game. Like he manages to break into an eggman warehouse and find one of the robot Sonics. After a while reprogramming the Sonic, he causes trouble with it. Eggman then takes notice and visits Fang. The interaction pretty much goes "That's right Egg Salad! I got this here Metal Sonic on my side. Together we wi-" "Factory Reset. What kind of genius do you take me for? Of course I'm going to have a debug word and you just said it! Now then... Mecha Sonic, destroy."
@@Wberdly555 It's a mix of two or more different animals. The word comes from the Chimera, a Greek mythological monster that had a goats head, a lions head and body, and a serpent for a tail.
What if… and I’m just spitballing… Fang/Nack is the same ‘species ‘ as the Custom Character in Forces; a ‘shapeshifting wolf’ of sorts? That’d definitively clear up the whole varying species identity crisis he seems to go through.
My all time favorite sonic character I wish to see him return I like the fang name an consider it his name but it don’t matter which they use I just want him back
I'm so fucking happy after sonic generations, including ports of sonic the fighters HD and triple trouble our boi finally got back in the spotlight and came back in the later years of archie comic restart era and the IDW version. Fang is the most enjoyable and most interesting antagonist of the series. Heck there is a new official plush coming soon. Some character designs are similar in sonic boom tv show and in Sonic mania. I've been seeing way more often in fan games to which seriously puts a massive smile on my face. I've not been into sonic much for the past few years but anyone who puts my boi and his bear n duck crew in I will go and buy it and enjoy it. I'm a brit sonic fan and always prefered calling him Fang the Sniper, tho he's always an amazing comedic villain, I love the edge of him just being a gunman but it's for the best they give him lasers or cork guns. tho I wouldn't be bothered if he kept on using real guns and drew blood like in the scrapped panels of issue 122. It may sound insensitive to some of you soft folks but ffs he's using guns. would've been fine if he just went zappy zappy with laser guns n his cute popgun.
I grew up reading most of the Archie comics so a lot of these more obscure or older characters were never a mystery to me. I don’t understand why sega has to split these characters between classic and modern eras when the comics did it just fine to where no one really felt out of place.
@@sammyay-man2754 Considering it seemed like a critical and commercial success I would've thought a sequel would be a no brainer, but SEGA don't appear to be working on it unfortunately
I prefer if Fang was just Jerboa (i was thinking of a running gag that some people thinks he’s a Weasel, Only for him to annoyed and tell them He’s a Jerboa) and I agree with a lot of other people that his real name is Nack but his nickname is Fang to make himself sound threatening and no worries, Johnny, you’re not the only one who thinks Fang has an Australian accent
Nack getting knee'd in the balls will go down as one of my favorite comic moments in sonics history, lmao. The infamous scene is even referenced in a future issue of Sonic Universe, (Treasure Team Tango I THINK) where Amy remarks "Sally didn't hit you THAT hard!"
As someone who had Sonic the fighters on the ps2 as a kid (gems collection) I always referred to him as Fang the Sniper. That Name sounds so cool and I liked to think of his as Cowboy.
Which name is better? Neither. Think about it. Bean, Bark, and... Bite! Bite the Jerboa! I preferred Nack before, back when I assumed his sister was canon. But if she's not anymore, then Nack loses some of it's appeal. Though Fang does fit better with Tails and Knuckles, it's not otherwise a great name. Bite would make him and Bark feel like more of a duo, and would give the team a full set B names. And heck, they coulda even had him reference his two previous names to reveal that he's comitting tax evasion with fake identities. Because he is the type that would do that.
Nack has been my favourite Sonic character since I first saw him all those years back on the GameGear! Part of me really wants to see him playable in Sonic Mania, you know he'd totally want to steal the Phantom Ruby. I also loved his appearances in Sonic the Comic.
Hey folks, I managed to dig up even more Fang/Nack concept it. Check it (and other cool stuff) out in my Team Hooligan BONUS Video right here: ruclips.net/video/NZTd_H_j2OE/видео.html
Weird thing is I also for some reason pictured him as an Aussie.
My headcanon is that Nack the Weasel was his true name and that Fang the Sniper is his nickname to make himself sound more intimidating.
It's some really convincing headcanon and it's the approach Archie took too. I'd love for that to be the official explanation.
My headcannon too.
That makes sense, although he's canonically a jerboa (is that how you spell it?)/wolf hybrid.

I love nack hes one of my favorite sonic characters of all time and I want to see him in the sonic games again
Fang the Sniper is the purple weasel villain as one of Doctor Eggman’s henchmen and he returns to the new Sonic The Hedgehog game called Sonic Superstars in Autumn 2023.
In fact, he is a mix of a jerboa and wolf (weasel is a casual mistake).
They actually named him Fang The Bounty Hunter, and hes also a Jerboa!
My friend and I heard the "being from a different world" bit, and head canoned that Fang/Nack came from the Ty the Tasmanian Tiger universe, as he fits within the game's style.
Haha nice head canon
Fang look like He should be more an Anti-Hero than a Straight up Villian.
If I were a weasel, I would call myself SNITCH.
Thx For Doing My Request! Idk If U Remeber Me But Ur A Great RUclipsr
Thanks for requesting a great character to discuss
:)
it would've been so cool if team hooligan was in sonic heroes, and they were just a bunch of crackhead robbers who just wanted the chaos emeralds for their value or something haha
(Which is why he tails Bean to "Get the Bike!" in the same panel)
In many ways, Fang is a lot like Sonic's equivalent to Wario.
(Sega I am a phone call away, PLEASE)
Sorry if I rambled on for a bit, this comment turned out to be a bit of an essay, but Legit Fang is my favorite Sonic character (on top of being one of my favorite fictional Characters, full stop.), so it's nice to have the chance to "Nerd Out" over him every once in a while.
Thanks for the long comment, it was a great read. You brought up lots of really good points! In particular, Fang having a 'gangster' voice kind of makes me think of Pinstripe from Crash.
I personally use both names interchangeably I use Fang the sniper sometimes and I use Nack the weasel sometimes.
Sonic Supestars will let us know of his REAL name
Its Fang the Sniper on the Website
Favorite character since Triple Trouble.
I’m back here because Fang is going to be in Sonic Superstars!
Personally I always headcanon that "Nack the Weasel" is his REAL name, while "Fang the Sniper" is an alias he goes by
The way I always saw it is, Knack/Fang is a mercenary bounty hunter on top of a treasure hunter. "Fang the Sniper" is his codename that he goes by when working as a bounty hunter, but Knack is his real name. Think about it. Who would you fear more if being chased? Some dude named Knack? Or a guy named Fang the sniper?
KNACK IS BACK BABY AW YEAH
I like your content it deserves way more recognition
Also you should do an obscure Sonic Crossovers video
Thank you! Just glad to see people enjoying the videos and leaving some cool comments. I've considered doing a video about crossovers and/or cameos at some point, so thanks for suggesting that too.
The character seems to be used really well in the triple trouble remake.
Sonic Superstars !
he finally back
considering the most resent comic i can imagine the meme of "im going to defeat you through the power of "friendship" and this gun i found"
You don't need to apologise dude, Nack is commonly used in the UK because we associate him with the Fleetway character, who was used way more in that medium than Fang was ever used.
I think Fang just uses many names so he stays in the shadows, it makes sense especially since he’s a certified criminal.
Finally Fang the sniper is now back in sonic superstar
Nack the Fangal
Fang the Nackal
Thanks for the suggestion. Hopefully I'll get wrong to doing Mighty soon.
Nicely done, muchacho. Hope to see you do Bark The Polar Bear next!
Thanks! Bark will be coming at some point in the future.
To be fair, it does sound pretty cool
Ive only heard of Fang, and seen them in Mania ofc, thank you for filling me in, very much. :)
Oh I totally forgot about the posters in Generations, ope
Thanks for watching, glad I could pass on some info
@@JohnnyVector I grew up with sonic, know a lot from that, I'm always happy to learn more :) Thanks for all your content.
Marvelous queen is such a badass name
Personally I use a mixture of the two I called him Fang the Weasel
A Guy like Fang look like he should appear in Many Games.
I'm glad, he's one of my favorite.
Let's just have him called Nack "Fang" the Sniper, kinda like Tails is actually called Miles "Tails" Prower, Fang used as a nickname and his specie isn't specifed when called "The Sniper"
In the Archie comics Nack shot Mina Mongoose in the face and almost killed her.
I’m honestly happy that Fang made a return in Sonic Superstars. I’m glad he’s getting attention again.
So, technically, Fang was a chimera at one point.
Haha exactly
A what?
@@Wberdly555 It's a mix of two or more different animals. The word comes from the Chimera, a Greek mythological monster that had a goats head, a lions head and body, and a serpent for a tail.
@@angrygarbanzo5436 ah ok
@@angrygarbanzo5436 thanks for clearing that up too ne
They should call him Fang the Purple Sniper Wolf. 🐺
What if… and I’m just spitballing… Fang/Nack is the same ‘species ‘ as the Custom Character in Forces; a ‘shapeshifting wolf’ of sorts? That’d definitively clear up the whole varying species identity crisis he seems to go through.
He'll always be Nack The Weasel to me.
My all time favorite sonic character I wish to see him return I like the fang name an consider it his name but it don’t matter which they use I just want him back
Sonic superstars
Ii'm here after the Superstars trailer.
Good news, everyone! Fang is coming back in Sonic Superstars!
I grew up reading most of the Archie comics so a lot of these more obscure or older characters were never a mystery to me. I don’t understand why sega has to split these characters between classic and modern eras when the comics did it just fine to where no one really felt out of place.
Agreed. I enjoyed Sonic Generations, but it's a shame it's created this never-ending rift between the classic and modern eras.
It's a real shame Sega didn't make 2d sonic games like mania to see team hologan as a main boss. They sure know how to ruin everything
Sonic Mania 2 seems like a no brainer to me, with more Team Hooligan. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
@@JohnnyVector you're saying Sonic mania 2 is real?
@@sammyay-man2754 Considering it seemed like a critical and commercial success I would've thought a sequel would be a no brainer, but SEGA don't appear to be working on it unfortunately
@@JohnnyVector I am not surprised.... I expected nothing from Sega.
I prefer if Fang was just Jerboa (i was thinking of a running gag that some people thinks he’s a Weasel, Only for him to annoyed and tell them He’s a Jerboa)
and I agree with a lot of other people that his real name is Nack but his nickname is Fang to make himself sound threatening
and no worries, Johnny, you’re not the only one who thinks Fang has an Australian accent
KNACK THE SNIPER
Mighty and Ray next?
Not quite next but they will be coming at some point down the line, thanks
@@JohnnyVector I do hope you'll get to Bark the Polar Bear someday. This video was really good, no doubt about it.
Good question also Happy New Year's Eve
He's my He is my favorite character in sonic.
I thought fang was a purple coyote
“All you’re balls on the track”
W A T
Who the hell are Bark Bean and Fang?
Hopefully you know about Fang now
Fun thing! He Re-appeared in Sonic Superstars as an antagonist working for Robotnik, alongside Trip the Sungazer :)
