9:45 super interesting point. I'm from Canada, we have a lot of international students from China come over for university in my city and this year alone we've had 9 baptisms. Which doesn't sound like a lot but were a small YSA branch. Some of them just went home for summer and a big concern of mine is there doesn't sound to be much in person support for them to be spiritually fed/guided as new members.
My Mom lived there 13 years. Yes there is no proselytizing allowed. You can worship in a member's home or a conference room. But it is on the down low. When the country does open up you will see 200 baptized on a Sunday and a hundred temples built. The people are hungry for religion.
Thank you for your testimony on this. You know, it's not so different as here in the states -- you bear more testimony sometimes by your actions than with lecture. Thanks, y'all.
i was baptized in china actually! my family loved there for a couple years when i was younger. me and my little siblings were the only primary kids there! i think it’s interesting to compare and contrast the differences of being a kid there and being an adult!
10:07 - 10:20 Justin would you be able to explain what you mean here? To me there are more differences than similarities between Christianity and Eastern religions.
Buddhism is all about developing mental discipline and positive qualities like compassion, patience, and temperance, and ridding ourselves of negative qualities like hatred, fear, and ignorance. Buddhists believe that all humans have “Buddha Nature,” which means that everyone has the potential to reach perfection. The list of similarities goes on and on. It's a different worldview and cosmic explanation, but similar values and goals of spiritual development.
Yeah, I believe that all religions come from the original gospel loved by Adam and Eve. But Ofcourse over time so many things have changed based on culture and understanding. If you look at the main purpose of most eastern religions (excluding their deities and altars etc) there is a very similar goal, which is to become as enlightened as possible. So I think there is a lot we can learn from eastern religions that help the gospel make even more sense!
There actually strong evidence that the Chinese people were Christians before being Buddhist, if you study the old Chinese character you see the story of Adam and Eve, and evidence of God. Anyway you can find this video on RUclips, it's super interesting!
Once the church builds a temple in Shanghai, only Chinese nationals will be able to attend. So no tourists. She is correct about Chinese members and members from other countries not being able to meet together. My Chinese friends also have said that they have to go to Hong Kong for bsptisms.
I live in China. I work here. You can speak to expatriates about religion, but not with the locals. Some branches now meet in rented building spaces. There is one in Shanghai on a second floor of a building that, once inside, looks just like regular church hallways in the US. I've been to one in Beijing, same deal. Our branch meets in a rented house, used mostly for church. That said, there are local branches. It is different from city to city and province to province, and their ability to meet depends upon the good graces of the local CCP authorities. I could write a book. If you want to see what China is like today, I'd recommend looking at the earlier videos put out by laowhy86 on RUclips. He's honest. He does have his bias, of course. But he shows what he has seen and experienced. ruclips.net/user/laowhy86
Like no disrespect to the creators of this video, I think they seem to be nice and sincere people but I feel the title is very deceptive. Mormons might adopt somethings from Christianity, but the Mormonism and Christianity are NOT the same thing. Otherwise it was a nice video
I'm sure that I am in the minority, but when I select one of your videos to watch (which are many), it is because I have a serious interest in the topic. Therefore it is irritating and distracting to have to endure the typical opening "comedy skit" and attempt at humor during the video. I would prefer just a serious discussion on topic. I presume getting feedback is important to you so I offer this in the spirit of helpfulness, not meanness.
I replaced someone at a school in Shenzhen who happens to be LDS. The Chinese teachers there knew he was Mormon and he would pray before every meal which made them uncomfortable (Chinese people tend to see expressions of faith in public as cultish).
I don’t agree with your observation that Chinese view faith expressions as cultish. Lived there for 17 years and am married to a Chinese woman; that was NOT my experience at all. I guess we all see China through our own lens.
@@mdcarson Suppose so. My colleague said it made him a bit uncomfortable for whatever reason. I know plenty of Chinese people are also of faith or indifferent and have no ill will. I'm also married to a Chinese woman and live in Shanghai.
Anna Johnson woah! I took a class once...in middle school....so...yeah....what part of world history are you referring too 😅 then I can do some reading up there lol
If anyone wants to understand better the long term implications of Communism, or any other alike type of government, on religious freedom, take a good dive on Marxist doctrine and history. You'll get any appropriate learning about it from the Spirit. Probably that's the best advice I could give on the topic to any LDS person. And please, cherish the USA. Most of the times people don't appreciate valuable things until the lose them.
Think her experience encapsulates a saying I've heard quite a few times. Preach the gospel. If all else fails - use words! People take note of what you do, more than you say.
I pray that one day the government will soften there hearts or get whipped off from the face of the earth (I'm not picky) so the gospel can spread to them.
I'm Catholic, first visited China in 2003 and in all that time never seen a functioning Church, in Shanghai buildings that look just like churches from the colonial days have been repurposed. China could do with some faith, it's become the most hyper capitalist country in the world , some people would happily destroy your life for a new iPhone. That said many Chinese are great people, including my wife, of course.
Mormonism holds to no basic Christian theology or to any basic principles of it. Polygamous Jesus and God, blood atonement, becoming gods, baptism for dead etc etc
Happy Raccoon a god, Jesus, ten commandmets, that you need to preach your religion, relationship with nature, good and evil, etc. all very western ideas
Happy Raccoon an afterlife, heaven and hell, god as a separate and higher being, ability to sin, repentance, etc. I would also add love, humility, grace of course as being apart of Christian religions, but that is also taught in other religions as well, so the previous were all just off the top of my head as pertaining to mainly judeo Christian world Jews
@@youtubeuseri57 you are ignorant of Mormonism and Christian beliefs. Mormonism repudiates and nullifies all established Christian values. This, Jesus is a polygamist polytheist, like his dad. Blood Atonement, Adam God Doctrine, ....

Living in China is super safe. What she said is right: it is safer in China than in America walking home at night.
