Joshua...your natural bloopers are very very real! i do the same in plein air...these are real issues....forgetting water....phone falling down..etc. this is normal.Do show these...dont feel upset...you are one of us!
Hi Josh… I’m pleased to have found your channel. I think you’ve done very well under difficult conditions and your use of gouache for this painting is great! 🙏🎨🇿🇦
I like the location Josh. It just shows it doesn’t matter the place as long as you get the key elements. You brought out those elements brilliantly. Subscribed
Thanks Darren, I’m learning more every episode and that’s a really good point. I’ll be shouting you out for this comment in our next one as I feel it’s important for people to know to give them the confidence to just get out and paint. Thanks
Well done! I, too, have found that it can be hard to get saturated colors on top of previous layers of traditional gouache. But in this case it served you well because you ended up with all the subtle shades of a rainy day. Are you mixing on the glass insert? How is your paint not drying? Best wishes from Indiana!
Hey :) thanks so much. yeah I’m using the glass insert that came with the pochade box. I do my paintings in just a few hours, and I put down a good dollop so it doesn’t have too much chance to dry
Thanks Jamie, yeah I feel for the videos it’s all about experimenting and trying to up my game with techniques, so for me using a cheap throwaway canvas gives me the confidence to get it wrong.
I've never used cardboard exactly but I imagine it works similarly to paper, two coats of gesso should help massively, and you can sand in between applications to get a smooth surface if thats what you're after. I like to put some acrylic in with the last gesso layer to tone the surface but that's up to you @@Paintingsbyjosh

Great job guys as usual… great location very well done 👍🏻
Nice work Josh! 👏
6:48 That painting needed that guy in it.
I know exactly what you mean about loosing it, pulling it back, loosing it 😂

Are you working in acrylics?
please keep your material in the description box below your video. I assume this is watermixable oils? or acrylics?
He mentioned gouache at the end
Are you painting on cardboard? It looks like the paint is sinking into it. I really like your videos. Thank you.
Ah maybe that’s the reason for the low vibrancy. Thanks for the advice, I’ll defo be shouting you out in our next video
Nice painting. Were you painting on unprimed cardboard? I personally find painting on unprimed surfaces so challenging.
