I think LeBron is very close but not a better basketball player than Jordan. Jordan was every bit the passer and rebounder as LeBron, and we shouldn't penalize Jordan for not having to play four positions. William Lemons I will admit I’m biased too because I never saw Michael Jordan play. I started watching basketball in the 2010-2011 season, so Lebron’s been THE guy the whole time I’ve watched basketball. But from what I’ve been a part of, LeBron is the best I’ve seen. I have no doubt Michael Jordan was as much a player as LeBron, if not more. Even though I’ve never seen him play, I’ll give him benefit of the doubt based off his stats and accolades alone. It’s just based on what I’ve SEEN, I think LeBron is the greatest, but I have no doubt in Jordan’s spot as the goat if we had to make an actual Mount Rushmore of basketball players and we were forced to come to a consensus. The 6-6 in finals is hard to argue against and his abilities would easily translate to today’s nba. I hate this debate so much to be honest. This is an endless and hopeless argument because the only way to gauge what player is better than another objectively is by matching them up 1 on 1 at similar times in their careers ability-wise, but that’s obviously not happening. ESPN and people on the internet use the LeBron vs Jordan argument because they have nothing to talk about and they want to sound relevant. I respect both and am not mad if either gets hailed as the goat over the other.

The accolades are earned though, and they do matter. Jordan’s resume is pretty crazy. He was the scoring champ for 10 seasons, to Lebron’s 1 season. He was a 9 time 1st team defense selection. He won DPOY, MVP, scoring title, finals MVP, and dunks contest all in same season while avg 35 pts. That’s dominance on both sides of the ball that we’ve never seen since. He was a shooting guard, yet has more blocks than Lebron, and way more steals. Jordan never avg less than 30 pts in any playoff series except maybe 1. He was always performing even when his early teams were not good. But he stayed with the team until he got enough help. Lebron would have done more losing early if he hadn’t jumped ship to join superstars. And Lebron had a few series where he hardly showed up. There were several times when he didn’t play well, and was flat out accused of quitting in one series. That’s one big thing that will always follow Lebron. Even when his teams didn’t win, Jordan always performed. He didn’t have a disastrous performance you can point to like some Lebron had, most notably that Dallas series where Jason Terry owned him on offense and defense. And the make people better thing is a little overblown. Besides being a better scorer and defender, Jordan was a great leader. He only avg like one assist less than Lebron, so it’s not like Jordan wasn’t just as good a passer when he needed to be. Jordan made a lot of people’s careers better. I mean people talk about Paxson and Kerr like they were great players. They only avg like 6 or 7 pts for their careers. They played with the best, and they shined with him. Pippen is practically regarded as a legendary player, yet he was a 16 pt avg player and a good defender. These players had a role, and then let the man go to work avg over 30 pts for his career and being an elite decorated defender at the same time. He’s the best two way player ever, and therefore more complete. I do think Lebron might be 2nd, but accomplishments and accolades will matter in history, once the moment passes. Sure Lebron will end up owning a lot of totals of stats when he’s done, but he’s already played more games than Jordan, and it’s the longevity that will allow that. What Jordan accomplished in 13 seasons with the Bulls (really more like 11.5 or 12, since he had one season he almost completely missed with a broken leg, and the other when he came back late in a season after the retirement), it will never be duplicated. It will take Lebron probably 20 seasons to accomplish those things if he ever does. And then let’s remember the East back then was usually the toughest conference, whereas the East for the most part has been really bad over the past 12-13 years or so. It’s been discussed every year by most major sports commentators in some form. I personally think it’s difficult to compare eras though anyway. I mean the 3 pt line only existed since the ‘79/80 season, so it was only there for 4 yrs before Jordan came to the NBA. Kids didn’t grow up shooting 3s back in his day. It was more about being tough and getting to the rim, midrange, etc. much tighter and physical defense with the rules, etc. With the spacing and touch fouls allowed today, not telling how many pts Jordan would avg.

Jordan was every bit the passer and rebounder as LeBron, and we shouldn't penalize Jordan for not having to play four positions. I will admit I’m biased too because I never saw Michael Jordan play. I started watching basketball in the 2010-2011 season, so Lebron’s been THE guy the whole time I’ve watched basketball. But from what I’ve been a part of, LeBron is the best I’ve seen. I have no doubt Michael Jordan was as much a player as LeBron, if not more. Even though I’ve never seen him play, I’ll give him benefit of the doubt based off his stats and accolades alone. It’s just based on what I’ve SEEN, I think LeBron is the greatest, but I have no doubt in Jordan’s spot as the goat if we had to make an actual Mount Rushmore of basketball players and we were forced to come to a consensus. The 6-6 in finals is hard to argue against and his abilities would easily translate to today’s nba. I hate this debate so much to be honest. This is an endless and hopeless argument because the only way to gauge what player is better than another objectively is by matching them up 1 on 1 at similar times in their careers ability-wise, but that’s obviously not happening. ESPN and people on the internet use the LeBron vs Jordan argument because they have nothing to talk about and they want to sound relevant. I respect both and am not mad if either gets hailed as the goat over the other.

The accolades are earned though, and they do matter. Jordan’s resume is pretty crazy. He was the scoring champ for 10 seasons, to Lebron’s 1 season. He was a 9 time 1st team defense selection. He won DPOY, MVP, scoring title, finals MVP, and dunks contest all in same season while avg 35 pts. That’s dominance on both sides of the ball that we’ve never seen since. He was a shooting guard, yet has more blocks than Lebron, and way more steals. Jordan never avg less than 30 pts in any playoff series except maybe 1. He was always performing even when his early teams were not good. But he stayed with the team until he got enough help. Lebron would have done more losing early if he hadn’t jumped ship to join superstars. And Lebron had a few series where he hardly showed up. There were several times when he didn’t play well, and was flat out accused of quitting in one series. That’s one big thing that will always follow Lebron. Even when his teams didn’t win, Jordan always performed. He didn’t have a disastrous performance you can point to like some Lebron had, most notably that Dallas series where Jason Terry owned him on offense and defense. And the make people better thing is a little overblown. Besides being a better scorer and defender, Jordan was a great leader. He only avg like one assist less than Lebron, so it’s not like Jordan wasn’t just as good a passer when he needed to be. Jordan made a lot of people’s careers better. I mean people talk about Paxson and Kerr like they were great players. They only avg like 6 or 7 pts for their careers. They played with the best, and they shined with him. Pippen is practically regarded as a legendary player, yet he was a 16 pt avg player and a good defender. These players had a role, and then let the man go to work avg over 30 pts for his career and being an elite decorated defender at the same time. He’s the best two way player ever, and therefore more complete.
I do think Lebron might be 2nd, but accomplishments and accolades will matter in history, once the moment passes. Sure Lebron will end up owning a lot of totals of stats when he’s done, but he’s already played more games than Jordan, and it’s the longevity that will allow that. What Jordan accomplished in 13 seasons with the Bulls (really more like 11.5 or 12, since he had one season he almost completely missed with a broken leg, and the other when he came back late in a season after the retirement), it will never be duplicated. It will take Lebron probably 20 seasons to accomplish those things if he ever does.
And then let’s remember the East back then was usually the toughest conference, whereas the East for the most part has been really bad over the past 12-13 years or so. It’s been discussed every year by most major sports commentators in some form.
I personally think it’s difficult to compare eras though anyway. I mean the 3 pt line only existed since the ‘79/80 season, so it was only there for 4 yrs before Jordan came to the NBA. Kids didn’t grow up shooting 3s back in his day. It was more about being tough and getting to the rim, midrange, etc. much tighter and physical defense with the rules, etc. With the spacing and touch fouls allowed today, not telling how many pts Jordan would avg.
