My girls don't like timothy hay for some reason. I don't mind as it's 3 times the price. They also don't tend too eat much hay. About a handful a day but they do spend up too 8 hours mowing the lawn. They also go through 2 cups of piggy food a week and a few pea flakes and the usual fruit and veg. They are happy piggies but I think Amaya loves my husky more than me. Hi Sarah, I remembered you had made this video and looked back for it to rewatch today. Pansy has been having digestive problems on and off-over the past 3 months or so - not bloat thankfully as she’s fine in herself and eating and drinking but suddenly gets quite soft poos and so I have been cutting out her veg for a day or two and she’s then fine again. The piggies all love pea flakes and I do give them each a few every day as you said but will try cutting these out for Pansy and see if it helps- she loves her veggies and so I don’t want her to only have a very small amount of them particularly if this isn’t a dressing the actual problem of course. Fingers crossed 🤞 this will help her gut imbalance episodes. She’s five and a half now. Thanks so much for sharing such useful veterinary advice and tips xx

Only in small amounts and broken up into smaller feedings thru out the day. The only lettuce she doesn't have a reaction too is the leaf lettuce I grow hydroponically. Store lettuce of any type gives her gas. So Lettuce is a treat. I also use dried organic carrot bits for treats. They are small, like sprinkles. I sprinkle about a teaspoon per piggie in the hay area and let them root around for them. Or I put them in a ball with a small opening for them to puzzle and work at getting out. As for pellets, I avoid the ones with wheat, soy, and molasses. I give them all 2nd cut timothy. I add in a few times a wheek; Oat hay, 1st cut timothy hay, orchard grass, and meadow hay. I stay away from 3rd cut at this time as it is not as fiber rich as all the others. I also found that it has helped my older ladies as well. Instead of Pea flakes I use the small round timothy treats by Oxbow. I grow fresh grass as I was told by my vet it has enzymes good for the gut. It seems to help Buttercup out a lot. I gave her a few pea flakes earlier this morning and just noticed she is very bloated. 🙁 She’s still eating and up and about, but I’m definitely not going to give her pea flakes ever again! Thank you for sharing this info.
Excellent information. I will keep a close eye on my girls to see if there is any correlation to them demonstrating sluggishness. One of them started refusing pea flakes on her own, which I always thought was her way of demonstrating she was a diva. Now I have to wonder if she is just smarter the rest of them. Thanks for passing on the info.
I always enjoy watching your videos Sarah. Your piggies are gorgeous. During the summer months my piggies always enjoy small pieces of watermelon but I’ve had to cut this out and it upsets the older piggies. Parsley and celery also seems to upset the older ones unfortunately. But fresh grass seems to agree with all of them.
Ah, bless him- dear Pedro…hope he’s feeling better now and thanks for that Sarah- I didn’t know that about pea flakes- somewhat alarming! Mine do all love them. Interestingly, when Pansy had a digestive problem in the summer, she wouldn’t eat pea flakes at all for about a month- just wouldn’t take one. She’s eating them as keenly as ever now but it took quite a while after she was completely better before she’d touch them again. Probably should cut back on them a bit though. Mine do all love the cruciferous veg too but I am careful not to give too much. Touch wood no problems with bloat though from any of them as yet xx

Many thanks for sharing,I have a piggy with diabetes she is not allowed pellets as they put her weight up which is not good for her diabetes,I have an older piggy prone to bloat so the veg has been cut right back to only a small piece in the morning and small piece at night ,I've noticed they all eat alot more hay because of the reduced veg ,I give them a hay cake once a day broken up between the 4 of them and they love that ,.🥰
Poor old Pedro, I hope he feels better soon. I have always wondered about peaflakes 🤔. Roxy is hilarious, the way she ran over Pedro and how she runs away with the veggies 🤣
I do hope, poor Pedro has fully recovered, meanwhile. I once had a piggy (8 years old) with digestive problems (obstipation) due to her walking problems and the vet recommended Pineapplejuice in addition to the medication Unfortunately, I couldn‘t get some,as the shops were already closed at this time of the day and the next morning it was too late😢😢😢
Squeak dreams I’m not in the same state as you but I’m in the UK and I just wanna say thank you for making all these videos can you please tell me a tip to get me a guinea pig so like me because they only really come out and I can only hand feed them thank you
One thing to help with gas/GI stasis is baby gas drops (simethicone). It’s also a worrying issue with rabbits. It’s perfectly safe and you can’t overdose it. A few drops every hour can be beneficial. Also - along with broccoli and cabbage, bell peppers and tomatoes cause gas. A nice belly massage and a small animal-safe heating pad can also help. And finally, digestive support treats for piggies from a trusted brand (like Oxbow - and definitely NOT vitakraft)
Thanks very much for this info, it's good to know these facts. Strangely and thankfully now, none of my three like pea flakes, so they don't have them. I hope in a way that could be the issue for poor Pedro so easily resolved. Mine don't eat/like a lot of veggies out there, so typically it's cucumber, celery and mixed leaves salad. They always go mad for grass, so being closest to their natural diet I give them grass 2-3 times a day and mix a forage into their hay. Fingers crossed - no bloat to-date. Hope Pedro does well now. x
My two also don't think much of pea flakes. They get a few every now and then but they would rather have a slice of cucumber or get red faced eating a capsicum. They don't think much of celery. I usually have too throw it out. They do love a blueberry every now and then or half a grape. They seem the happiest being outside mowing the lawn and lucky for us we live in the tropics so they get a lot of outside time all year round. Though in winter it's for only about 4 hours.
My Girls don't like Pea-flakes....peppers....parsley....or fruit!! 😂 They adore kale, romaine, dill, and carrots. All fed in moderation of course, so it's not one size fits all 😂. As long as they're getting the hay, which like your Piggies do and in different varieties, that's most important, as we know. Great Video. R.I.P all our piggies who have crossed the Rainbow 🌈. We can take comfort knowing we loved and cared for them, and our piggies know we loved them too ♥ 🙏🐹
Yes, I KNOW bloat is more common then we think, my piggy Velvet has been having some issues with it, I have constant access to my piggies, so I see them almost constantly, which in this instance is very good, because I noticed that after eating veggies she will tend to be a little lethargic, and look slightly swollen on her sides. I knew instantly that she needed gas drops, so I took her out, gave her a dose of a good gas drop, and massaged her stomach gently on each side, and after about 20 minutes she was alot better. Now, I tend to give her less at once, and feed my two females separately, because my other piggy that's with her in her enclosure has no problem. It works out because Velvet eats a bit slower anyway, so she doesn't notice she's getting a little less, and I give them 2 veggie meals instead of one, so it's more spaced out. Sometimes I'll give her a bit of gas drop before she eats, and she doesn't seem to have an issue afterwards, but if I wasn't an informed owner, I may not have been able to treat her as quickly. I constantly monitor them after they eat fresh food, but she seems to be the only One with the issue, Thank God! Giving strokes to dear, PRECIOUS little Pedro, what a beautiful boy he is! Call I looks SO BIG, my goodness, you'd never know she was such a tiny piggy not so long ago!
I have in my playlists my vids about my guinea boy Martin's illness. He scared me by suddenly losing weight to end up near Death's door. I thought I was going to lose him (he was only 8 wheeks old). I got him & his brother out to see if he would eat, it took a moment but he showed he had a clear appetite with no obvious problems. After 2 days feeding him up, there was a noticeable improvement. When his doctor saw him a few days later, he was back to a healthy weight. We discussed his homelife & diet, & established that my poor boy was intolerant to MUESLI! He'd had to compete with others for food & was effectively eating just piggy 'junk food'. I immediately eliminated muesli permanently from everypig's diet (even though there'd never been severe problems) & kept giving him extra food until he was strong, & look at him now! I now never get them any dry food of more than one colour & not of petstore budget brands.
My sweet boy just tried pee flakes. He loved them like crazy. So i can see that this can be a problem. So I give him 2 every 2 days. I brake them in half so he thinks its four :) its a part of our lap routine. I tried to give him a banana once but he just steped in it and didnt even try it :) love your content! And i just adore Pedro! 🐾
Useful info Sarah, thanks! I notice Roxy has Fatty Eye and so does my old boy guinea pig. Most sources say it's not a problem, maybe you know more about this? Thank you for the extra content too xx
my girl raven gets bloated from veggies. she lives with seven other girls so i can't not do veg but i keep an eye on her so she doesn't eat more than she should
OMG Roxy's wheek at 08:37 😂 As a teenager I had two guinea pigs. On weekdays my mother would give each a slice of cucumber each morning when she got up at 6am. On weekends when we slept in, they would become impatient eventually and start wheeking like Roxy. They would not stop until they got their cucumber. 🤣 One time they wheeked for a full 45 mins until I grumpily got out of bed, went down to the kitchen to get their cucumber and then went straight back to bed. 😵💫
I havent feed my girls pea flackes yet ,l was going to make them myself so thank you for this info l will probably just keep giving them palets of flesh grass from my garden instead .
Never had any problems with peaflakes. But is good to be aware that they can cause problems. Beside peaflakes I also have a treat from the brand Selective, They are pressed timothy hay with some thyme. Maybe a good alternative for Pedro. 😊 Love the loud wheeks of Roxy 😂
So happy Pedro is feeling better (and yes, he has cute yawns too!). Rosie had such a loud voice. She reminds me a lot of Mindy the piggy I had a a child. She was the same way when it came to veggies! 😊🥰❤️
I have a male pig that just turned 7. Over the last half year he has a lit of problems with his digestive system. He was used of getting different types of veggies daily. And 1 day he started getting really bad diarrhea. I stopt the veggies, gave prebiotic and everything went back to normal but from that day on every time he eat a little bit of veggie (sort doesn't matter) the diarrhea starts again. The vets have no idea what the problem is and I feel bad and sad for him not getting any veggie while he smells his ladies get the nice stuff and he really wants it too.
Yeah its a difficult situation I had the exact same problem, I took my male off the veggies though my older son 18 took Snoopy upstairs with him while the girls had their veggies. Though he would know as their sense of smell is great, so he would be sad still though I made a fuss of him with his hey because he loved me opening the hey bag as he would run through it and the hey would go everywhere lol. Dont know if this helps you any
Poor Andre. He's going to be heartbroken that I can't give him pea flakes anymore, he's very prone to bloat. but that's the only treats I have left right now. Hmmm what to do... what to do... ( don't get paid till Monday) sorry I'm literally thinking out loud while typing
Thank you for all the info. I learn something new each time I watch. I've had many pigs but hadn't had them for a few years and many things have changed. I have two boys now, Toby and Teddy, and they are a joy. They're also little monsters at times. 😆
Thank you once again for this new information so now I will be especially more careful 🤗. And I am happy to see that Pedro is starting to feel better🥰🙏
they are all sooo very cute! I just my first guinea 2 1/2 weeks ago, and did research, but still "learning" how to deal with his ways lol :) Dominic does not like broccoli anyway , so that is not a problem. I mainly give him Kale, Lettuce, green and yellow bell pepper, and a little apple for a treat, which he likes (at least when he is "in the mood" for them lol)
That is very interesting to know especially as the boys get older, as they love their pea flakes, we don't seem to have any problems right now (I'm glad to say) but it's definitely helpful. Hope Pedro is doing well now and seems his normal self eating those veggies 😁😁🥕🥒🍅🥬
Sarah which vet do you use? Is it someone you'd recommend? We've had a bit of a nightmare couple of weeks with our older piggies, losing lovely Otley and tomorrow we'll be losing our little punk Petri due to unresolvable teeth issues. Would be really keen to hear which vets you trust with your piggies as I think our local vet has missed issues with not being a specialist in guinea pigs.
I had used 5 different vets, 4 total rubbish and too quick to resolve issues by putting my guninea pigs to sleep (wirral area). I now know more could have been done and valuable info could have been shared with me, sadly I have no herd left. I hope you can find a wonderful vet ❤

I am new to owning piggies. I recently adopted two males, one us 3 1/2 years old and the other 5 1/2 y/o. I am wondering how to detect certain illnesses in them. Since piggies are new for me, I feel ill prepared to detect if they are unwell. Any info about this would be much appreciated.
Thanks for all of your amazing videos. They are so well done. I'm hoping you can post a video or even give me some advice on something. How do we reduce the hay smell in the house? Our 3 piggies are in our loft upstairs and we clean the cages every day. But my wife is sensitive to the hay smell. Any tips?
I have a true Hepa-13 filter air cleaner next to my cages. It helps catch the particles from the hay and the dust as well as smells. I sized it to do 4 air changes an hour for the room my guinea pigs are in. It also has a activated carbon filter, cold catalyst filter, and hepa pre-filter. The machine was about $150 USD when I got it a couple years ago. The filters are about $50 USD and I use about 3 a year. I can tell it works as I have to take it outside to change the filter as it is filled with hay dust and I want that out of the house. I'm thankfully not allergic to hays, but I like less dusting. If its just for dust, then a less fancy standard hepa-11 filter should work. (HathaSpace is brand) Sorry for the wall of text, hope it helps.

The same with my two girls. At first they lived pea flakes oak I bought a larger bag and now they turn and run when I offer one to them.
I have two guinea pigs and I am from India...I love ur guinea pigs and ur videos..can you pls tell from where did you get ur hideys...I love to decorate things....I hope I get a comment from you🥰🥰❣️❣️
Many thanks for sharing,I have a piggy with diabetes she is not allowed pellets as they put her weight up which is not good for her diabetes,I have an older piggy prone to bloat so the veg has been cut right back to only a small piece in the morning and small piece at night ,I've noticed they all eat alot more hay because of the reduced veg ,I give them a hay cake once a day broken up between the 4 of them and they love that ,.🥰
i love your videos i hope perdro feels better soon. thanks for your videos what to buy and more stuff for pigs its really helped me with my pigs :D
Poor old Pedro, I hope he feels better soon. I have always wondered about peaflakes 🤔. Roxy is hilarious, the way she ran over Pedro and how she runs away with the veggies 🤣
Really 🤞
I do hope, poor Pedro has fully recovered, meanwhile. I once had a piggy (8 years old) with digestive problems (obstipation) due to her walking problems and the vet recommended Pineapplejuice in addition to the medication Unfortunately, I couldn‘t get some,as the shops were already closed at this time of the day and the next morning it was too late😢😢😢
Squeak dreams I’m not in the same state as you but I’m in the UK and I just wanna say thank you for making all these videos can you please tell me a tip to get me a guinea pig so like me because they only really come out and I can only hand feed them thank you
I love your videos I’ve been watching them since I got my piggy and your tips helped my piggy warm up to me a lot more in about 5 days time
8:14 They must have heard you talking about vegetables. The sirene was going off really loud 😂
Similar to bunny diet then. My bunny Fawn I believe always get bloat. One a month/two months. Her poos are smaller too. Konijn's fine though.
Hi friends !! Omg love that tunnel ..oh Noo poor Pedro ,how is his eye btw?
I hear my guinea pigs fart sometimes. And sometimes I blame my farts on them if my husband is in the room.
They adore kale, romaine, dill, and carrots. All fed in moderation of course, so it's not one size fits all 😂. As long as they're getting the hay, which like your Piggies do and in different varieties, that's most important, as we know.
Great Video.
R.I.P all our piggies who have crossed the Rainbow 🌈. We can take comfort knowing we loved and cared for them, and our piggies know we loved them too ♥ 🙏🐹
I’ve never seen or bought pea flakes before. I first heard of them from watching your videos
Once again Sarah thank you for your informational and of course entertaining video. Hoping you got Pedro’s stomach issue finally figured out.
I love your videos and they have taught me a lot more about piggies and I am so grateful for your videos
Pedro looks like Herly from G force
So cute piggies
Thanks for sharing great video
Question! You said that Guinea pigs can’t go more than 8 hours without hay. Does that mean actually hay, or could hay in food pellets be ok?
I now never get them any dry food of more than one colour & not of petstore budget brands.
i just love guinea pigs 🐹💕💕
My sweet boy just tried pee flakes. He loved them like crazy. So i can see that this can be a problem. So I give him 2 every 2 days. I brake them in half so he thinks its four :) its a part of our lap routine. I tried to give him a banana once but he just steped in it and didnt even try it :) love your content! And i just adore Pedro! 🐾
Useful info Sarah, thanks! I notice Roxy has Fatty Eye and so does my old boy guinea pig. Most sources say it's not a problem, maybe you know more about this? Thank you for the extra content too xx
@textme416 yea right...
my girl raven gets bloated from veggies. she lives with seven other girls so i can't not do veg but i keep an eye on her so she doesn't eat more than she should
So cute 🐖💞💞💞
Really hope Pedro feels better soon! ☹💚🙏 Good thing that you reacted quickly. ❤
How much gripe water do you give a gp with bloat ..just in case ..I'd like to be prepared thanks xx
OMG Roxy's wheek at 08:37 😂
As a teenager I had two guinea pigs. On weekdays my mother would give each a slice of cucumber each morning when she got up at 6am. On weekends when we slept in, they would become impatient eventually and start wheeking like Roxy. They would not stop until they got their cucumber. 🤣
One time they wheeked for a full 45 mins until I grumpily got out of bed, went down to the kitchen to get their cucumber and then went straight back to bed.
Roxy sounding the "hue & cry" cracked me up esp while Pedro snoozed through it. Your little herd brings me such joy with their antics.
If our guinea pig gets bloated or gasy, is there anything we can do to help give relief??🙏🏾💜
they are all sooo very cute!
My Guinea Pigs don’t like pea flakes. Just hay and veggies 🤞🏼 (loved the squeaking…. My baby gp had to reply 😂)
@@amymayrose6210 thank you. I feel like we found a good one in Leeds but unfortunately too late and my little guy seems to be telling me he's ready. He'll be able to keep Otley company though.
@@delgodzilla1977 I'm glad you have a good vet, my sincere condolences to you, yeah you know as they tell you in their own way and I'm certain he will keep Otley company 💙 take good care of yourself too its hard being a guinea pig owner ❤
@@amymayrose6210 thanks it has definitely been a heartbreaking couple of weeks but I wouldn't swap the time I've had with them. We still have a 7 month old and will get her a companion or two at the weekend too
@@delgodzilla1977 yes they bring us so much joy and wonderful memories, i'm glad you have your 7 moth old and I'm sure she will be happy with her new companions, I wish you all the very best
Poor little Pedro! I really hope his bloating goes away quickly :( I love content! Love your channel and piggies ❤❤
What kind of pellets should I feed my guinea pig?
Thanks for all of your amazing videos. They are so well done. I'm hoping you can post a video or even give me some advice on something. How do we reduce the hay smell in the house? Our 3 piggies are in our loft upstairs and we clean the cages every day. But my wife is sensitive to the hay smell. Any tips?
I'm not too sure, but maybe a good quality air purifier might help.
I give my piggies oaten hay as it doesn’t upset me like most of the other hays do. It has a lot less smell.
Where do you get your hay? We have access to Timothy hay but it's brown not green like in the pet stores bags. Is this hay ok to feed to piggies?
Please could you do a video maybe for a new owner? 😊
Where do you get the pea flakes
My piggy got bloat after eating courgette
Love and cuddles to Pedro ❤
(My piggies don’t like pea flakes 😅)
