      Don’t use saddle mounts period. They are janky from the get go. I know it cost money , but drill and tap the gun , put a permanent base, and mount the optic directly to it. It’s just not worth having things go wrong in season. Especially when this is your job lol. Sorry for the luck , we all encounter it from time to time .

      I agree. I've watched at least 3 videos so far where the gun failed to fire and every one of them had a scope saddle on it. That's why I have truglo gobbler dots on my shotgun, never had a problem. Red dot scopes are good for kids, but adults don't need em.

  • @gregphillips1998
    @gregphillips1998 3 года назад +2

    To bad that happened Ted. The problem is that you are trying to ease the bolt closed. You have to be aggressive when you chamber a round. I know you are trying to be quiet but the gun is not designed to be used that way. That is why an AR15 has a forward assist to push the bolt home. You need to chamber your round when you’re start walking in. The gun does have a safety and you are the secondary safety by maintaining proper control of your firearm. There’s probably nothing wrong with your gun, just operator error. When you get time after season try the same scenario with your gun to see how it works. You’ll see that you need to be more forceful when you rack a pump gun. Great video. Good luck.

    I also have had turkeys come in to me no calling just the sound of my walking in the woods. After 40 plus years of turkey hunting I have experienced anything is possible. My biggest mistakes I forget anything is possible. I guess I am sometimes jealous of young hunters who have 40 plus years ahead of them. Never give up. Don't beat yourselves up. It doesn't help stay focused. And remember anything is possible. I have shot turkeys with single shot, pumps, autos,black powder. But my go to is over & under. Dependable and simple. Enjoy make memories and make up good excuses the longer the list verifies experience. Same excuses not learning. Rocket science and hunting. A good hunter doesn't claim to be a rocket scientist.

    I had the same thing happen to me on a gobbler with my w 835. Scary thing is, the primer on 3 shells were dented but not enough to go off. My trigger was never cleaned since I bought it… make it a yearly tradition to clean the trigger now!

    Teddy i know exactly how u felt bud. I have a Mossberg 835 12ga. I have duck and goose hunted with it and for the first time in prob 15 yrs last yr mime started doin the same exact thing. Only thing different was mine was hitting the primer but the firing pen was wore down just enough it wouldnt pop the primer. So needless to say this off season im replacing it. Guess things like this happening is why we call it hunting and not killing lol. Hope u get it figured out man.

    As much ground as you guys cover up and down the hills it won't take long to get tired of your new Mossbergs. The heaviest shotguns in existence.

    You guys should keep making that THP hat that Aaron always wears (bottomland, THP insignia, brown mesh snap back) I would buy one!👍👍

    No matter what those were some awesome hunts! Y’all always laid them down no problem using factory beads. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

    That Forloh camo the one guy is wearing is cool, but it’s still too much gray/light colors for here in the East. He was lit up when it turned back to him.

    On the run all the time....gun maintenance needs to happen nmw I shoot my gun regularly through the season yes cost ammo but nit frustrating like doing it all right twice and having the gun not fire. Great videos as always. Lessons learned

    Ouch this whole video was so painful to watch! Have you ever broken a bone and then watched a video of someone else doing something similar and you can actually feel the pain they're experiencing at that moment as you kind of relive yours all over again. Yeah that's how I felt watching each of these scenarios play out.
    But hey at least you got tomorrow and plenty more opportunities and states to come. Those fumbles make the wins all the sweeter. Out of tags and season here within a reasonable drive and no more time to travel. Man, I'd love to be missing or fumbling on one right now!

    Dam Ted that is some crappy luck, I'd of told Jake to shut the camera off and I'd of wrapped that gun around the tree a few times and left the dam thing in the woods and not to of had to ever worry about it going off again. Laughing...... Keep after them and that new gun and you will get one yet. Sick footage Jake, you guys rock. As always be safe and stay healthy my friend.

    I feel like I lose the rasp in my calling after a few hour's in the woods and it annoys the crap out-of me lol. I dont know why it happens but it does which sucks when you already struggle getting rasp lol
