I had no idea that we were talking about this. Around that time, I knew nothing about sonic except the main cast. They are really good for a game made in 2008, but like any game they seem less impressive when you somehow accidently fall throught the map on a mission and can see all of the weird tricks they use to make the background and no matter how hard you try you can't seem to replicate this weird glitch...yeah if you can't tell that happened to me once. Great game though.

I played Generations before Unleashed, and Rooftop Run was one of my favorite levels in Generations. I think I prefer the Generations version more, but playing the original Unleashed version was so cool :D

funny story, since I knew this game from generation, I knew from the start Rooftop Run music is special. both classic and modern. and immediately after the credits, I went straight on to the original Rooftop Run theme along with the gameplay on youtube since I don't have the game at that time. and oh, boy it was a wholesome experience. this song resembles the speed and almost like I was Sonic throughout the game, I never felt like that before. until I got a little dissapointed with the Wii graphics that I own years later(still looks fun tho).
Rooftop run is one of the most interesting levels in the game, gameplay wise it's nothing unique or special, but the aesthetics combined with the different locations makes it a blast to play: running in the roofs, dodging the halls, going to a clock and so on.
Can you really listen to this without hearing Sonic's "HEAR. WE. GOOOOO!!!"? Edit: The Japanese version didn't make sense for an English video. In Japan, the game's name is Sonic World Adventure, so the readyyyy, go!! Was a reference to Sonic Adventure. The more you know, I guess.

And not just with the gameplay and aesthetics, but the music and atmosphere, the story, everything. I felt something again, which I hadn't since playing Colors as a kid, and even that game was a departure from Unleashed and Black Knight itself.

It's kind of depressing how modern games gradually got worse from here. I mean yeah Color and Generations were ok but it wasn't really step up. This is where modern Sonic's highest peak was. The music represents how strong and confident the developers of this game were.

The way I see it, Colors matched in legth but not quality, while Generations improved the Boost formula with better controls and stages, but shorter overall.

Ngl I don't hate the generations version of this song.
But the original just has parts that hit different like 0:54 is completely missing from the generations version. The unleashed version just has a unique energy to it

Sonic unleashed day stages were the embodiment of the best parts of modern sonic. No puzzles, no distractions, no gimmicks, no nonsense. Just you and an unbelievable sense of speed and power that would never be topped again.
But the night stages completely throw that out the window as they only exist because games like Devil May Cry and God of War were popukar

If I'm ever stuck in an elevator for hours on end, I would hope that this is the music that's playing. I would never get tired of this. This soundtrack alone is reason enough for this to still be my 2nd favorite Sonic game ever
