Thats a pretty cool lab. Would really want to see the ssd under the microscope tho.

Need a good microscope camera for that... then set things up, etc. Too much time spent on production and editing of videos, rather than work. But will try, thanks.

I have one of these and it says "please insert disk". I'm wondering if I can open it up, remove the SSD and attach it to an new USB housing?

Typically, there is something wrong with the SSD itself, not the USB housing. So, putting the SSD in another housing won't solve anything. But if you would like to invest few bucks in ruling it out, sure, give it a shot.
Be very careful removing the SSD from the current enclosure. There is a alot of pesky cooling goo and tape.under the SSD. The SSD itself is very thin, so bending it will cause more severe damage, that it would be difficult to address even by a specialist.

@@Datarecoveryguru1 hmm that’s disheartening. Is there any way I could recover the data? I believe sandisks have a 5 year warranty for that model

You yourself probably not. Need a specialist to properly diagnose the problem and see of the files are recoverable.

@@Datarecoveryguru1 How much would generally that cost?
