The first was great, but it's been in decline ever since. As a series, the reputation mostly stems from former glory. Basically the same goes for the dev.
Funnily enough I didn't realize Metrocops could take cover and shoot until I discovered it the other day, my reaction pretty much being "That's so f'king cool".
Valve really thought hard on how to make the combine and the world work together. The combine or “universal Union” are shown wanting to unite and combine all worlds under their reign as such the Rebels mockingly call them the combine. Not to mention their codes they say amputation instead of execution due to their view of humanity. Execution means killing a individual, no one is an individual in the combines eyes. Humanity as a whole is viewed by the combine as a singular thing and as such calling execution amputation means they are amputating a “infected” limb or in our case an anti-citizen.

1:10 It actually is known whether officers themselves decide. There is a sign that you see outside of the facility after the first chopper fight. It clearly says that Civil Protection has its own discretion on who is allowed entry unless their superiors step in. That was for a critical resource point, so it certainly is the case for a simple transit checkpoint.
Absolutely love these videos, another reason Half-Life 2 is my favorite game. The attention to detail can be so minute but does so much to immerse the player within the game world. This, plus the amazing level design is what Valve excells at. Thanks for making these!
I find the Cps are very interesting, they aren't brainwashed/without identity as the soldiers, fighting to keep family safe and fed, yet corrupted by the power they have been given. The family and identity fact makes you sort of guilty when killing them, knowing they will never see their loved once again. But that's also why I love the SFM animation of them helping citizens/resisting And while I like your theory about those seen in Episode 1, judging by Barney's line, it's sadly most likely those were still under combine control, then trying to flee.
Something I observed and a few people pointed out that makes HL2 even more bleak. Metrocops could heavily be inspired by Jewish capos during the Holocaust in the Warsaw Ghetto where collaboration with the Nazis meant your family was allowed to live and not be harassed for far longer, basically recruit the people you are persecuting into a two tier system so they can't trust each other and manage themselves to some degree. The Nova Prospekt train selection is almost like a reverse version of the Auschwitz selection ramp, men sent to their deaths (Stalkers) while the women are sent to work duty.
It doesn't make sense for men to be sent to their death when work is required. The primary death camps, Majdanek, Belzec, Sobibor, and Trebkinka were in Eastern Poland, where at least three million were killed. Work camps were work camps. In some instances, extermination units comfiscated the prisoner workforce to the great anger and protest of the production manager who just lost all wartime production.
11:56 I guess I was so preoccupied with the action during this part when playing that I never noticed how god damn beautiful that positioning of the citadel is.
I do wonder why CPs fire their smgs from the hip?(it looks cool though and CPs are my favorite characters) Yeah they aren't a fighting force and maybe don't even get much training but seeing they act a little smarter than the normal combine soldier I wonder? But it would have been cool to see friendly Metro Police forces durring the uprising . . .
@@piggosalternateaccount4917 Can you really call them AR2 animataions? Since the original SMG was a MP5k and not a MP7 (I think) and it looks like they are using those animations . . .Then again the original AR2 was some other assault rifle. Still I feel like there should be another answer other than the animation
I always liked the organization of the civil protection, many people believe that they are just a police force on the city but in reality their organization and equipment make them seem like security forces with police duties rather then your average standard police force, their duty is to defend the cities at all cost, hence why we actually fight them during the uprising chapter, of course they have to maintain stability as well, hence why they make the citizens afraid of them and conduct raids on appartments and rebel bases in the city. I believe barney in episode 1 said something about chicken shit metrocops having second thoughts about DEFENDING city 17. One thing i never liked is the fact valve had to make their ai simpler in comparison to the soldiers so the player wont get stomped early on, and another thing i never liked is the fact they use the mp7 sub machine gun from the hip while in many of their animations like the cover fire they actually use the damn thing correctly! Either way i just love the duality of a cp's character some joined because they are sympathetic to the combine or because they are power hungry but others joined because they want to support their family. Honestly i always wondered what kind of training do cps have, well IF they have wich i believe they do, especially looking at the worldbuilding and the lore of half life in general, i believe in beta cps had to deal with xen wildlife almost always, in retail they are the ones to invade black mesa east. Soldiers get their training implanted on their brain, i wonder if the metrocops do as well or if they actually have to train the traditional way.
It's funny how the clip that shows the CP's firing from cover behind a Combine wall, you actually hear them say "Running low on verdicts, taking cover" when they reload.
You can easily see that this game is ahead of it's time and is one of the Top 5 best games ever . - The CP reloading their gun system - The well done programming from those CP's - Some of the CP's hast their unique movements - The assist - And so on and so fort Half-Life 2 is a very exciting game with an interesting story takes the player somewhere immersive and on top of it you can replay the many times without being bored of it " something that is very rare as non-existant in todays video games since they have a short lifespan and servers not more running for online playing " Only negative point in Half-Life franchise is no Half-Life Episode 3 . Which i doubt it will ever be made one day since the graphics and game mechanism has changed way too much . And that many fans has lost interest in the hope for a new Half-Life game .
I never really paid attention to the metrocop dialogue. I think it's pretty cool that the radio chatter fits perfectly with the sequence of events. The metrocops don't know who you are and don't even acknowledge you until you start killing metrocops. The Overwatch dialogue afterwards and subsequent metrocop radio chatter directly reference this event, mentioning things like homicide and assault on a police officer. Really cool to me that someone at Valve had the idea to add that level of detail to something as minuscule as idle chit chat and radio. Shame they don't make real games anymore.
One thing to note is that normally Metrocops have less health than Combine Soldiers, but the group at the end of Episode 1 are buffed to have Combine Soldier health

I've played countless modern days games with amazing graphics but still I never felt that special feeling when you play point insertion for the first time (the whole game in fact). Thank you Valve for the experience, Half Life will always have a special place inside me.
2:20 You know things are getting brutal when there's furniture appearing from thin air and flinging themselves towards the door in this source engine, as if they're alive somehow.
My thoughts on their punishments: -Family cohesion would mean that the family members get relocated to different cities and all contact is terminated. -Amputation means that you get executed for being useless and are not worth feeding. "Amputate anticitizen *insert name*". -Recycling is worse. You would beg for amputation instead. It means being turned into a stalker. -Off world service means that you get PERMANENTLY sent to war to further colonize and enslave different species. Cannon meat style. Kill until you die. -Rank points just probably means that you get promoted or demoted by how many points you accumulate. It probably just gives you access to more rations and the stimulant drug for fatigue. Also more contact with your family and more cigs and stuff. You don't really get promoted unless you take the memory re-programming. -Reproduction points could be the ability to live a parallel life in a vr coma where you get to meet a person and fall in love and impregnate and then your points end and you wake up and have to earn more by being a genocidal commie cop just to see your vr child being born and stuff. Such an interesting communist world.
Note that the ones in cover starting at about 9:54 take turns firing, probably so that while one officer is reloading there will be another one who can still shoot.
I always loved the attention to detail with the radio chatter. I live to listen to it. When you really listen it immediately makes the world so much more real lol

The first was great, but it's been in decline ever since. As a series, the reputation mostly stems from former glory. Basically the same goes for the dev.

Thank you for your fantastic job! Even 15 years after the release of the game, I learn something new about it.
Funnily enough I didn't realize Metrocops could take cover and shoot until I discovered it the other day, my reaction pretty much being "That's so f'king cool".
No clip
Valve really thought hard on how to make the combine and the world work together. The combine or “universal Union” are shown wanting to unite and combine all worlds under their reign as such the Rebels mockingly call them the combine. Not to mention their codes they say amputation instead of execution due to their view of humanity. Execution means killing a individual, no one is an individual in the combines eyes. Humanity as a whole is viewed by the combine as a singular thing and as such calling execution amputation means they are amputating a “infected” limb or in our case an anti-citizen.
close, except they’re referred to as the combine as in a farmer’s combine machine. theyre harvesting worlds, not attempting to unify them
@@dogpod6141 Perhaps it could be a double ent- entand- fuck nevermind I don't know how to spell that word

- There's a "hidden" paragraph at 3:50, a partial quote of a user who posted in my ingame Civil Protection lines video. Originally I was going to keep that paragraph but couldn't get the pacing quite right. Looks like it got to stay in after all.
- I'm not sure when my Overwatch Voice video will be completed, however I will be uploading an update ingame Civil Protection video soon, if not today.
- Not seen in this video, but Metrocops may shout out lines such as "Destroy that cover!" if their target is hiding behind a breakable object, such as a wooden crate.
- As mentioned by Bun, there is unused arrest behaviour, which can be seen in this video: ruclips.net/video/1CoLoip4d7w/видео.html
What was the paragraph?
@@chechnya1395 It reads:
To quote a comment from one of my videos "-by listening to the chatter you realise that the CPs in the area slowly progress from confusion as their automated surveillance equipment is reporting an anomalous presence in the area, and they have no idea what to make of it because this late in the occupation no one in their right mind would be acting like Freeman, and there's no logical explanation for his presence because he was simply "spawned" in by Gman."

But that's also why I love the SFM animation of them helping citizens/resisting
And while I like your theory about those seen in Episode 1, judging by Barney's line, it's sadly most likely those were still under combine control, then trying to flee.
5:39 "anti-fatigue ration" what a fancy name for methamphetamine.

- The CP reloading their gun system
- The well done programming from those CP's
- Some of the CP's hast their unique movements
- The assist
- And so on and so fort
Half-Life 2 is a very exciting game with an interesting story takes the player somewhere immersive and on top of it you can replay the many times without being bored of it " something that is very rare as non-existant in todays video games since they have a short lifespan and servers not more running for online playing "
Only negative point in Half-Life franchise is no Half-Life Episode 3 . Which i doubt it will ever be made one day since the graphics and game mechanism has changed way too much . And that many fans has lost interest in the hope for a new Half-Life game .
Now wat ?
I really like these videos, they give me some good nostalgia. Keep up the good work.

I’d assume the officer isn’t receiving all the punishments listed but depending on the type of mission and severity in failure will result in a punishment and what they have. For some who don’t have families repductive credits and amputation are your concern but officers who have achieved or had families going in are held at higher gun point to ensure success

That game is from the mid 2000's and I never experienced a game since that one with that much attention to details. Hell I don't know if it's the Half life fanboy inside me talking, but the wall textures (and all structure textures related) are breathtaking and it feel so immersive. Even from today's standard this game doesn't even feels old.

“*Minor hits*”
They have vests though.
2:20 You know things are getting brutal when there's furniture appearing from thin air and flinging themselves towards the door in this source engine, as if they're alive somehow.
My thoughts on their punishments:
-Family cohesion would mean that the family members get relocated to different cities and all contact is terminated.
