  • Are the Detroit Pistons a mess? Since hiring a completely new front office and coaching staff, plus making multiple roster changes, I think this claim from an anonymous executive is a reach.

Mysterious nba exec wants to trade for Cade, so attempt to sew seeds of discord.

Not a difficult thing to attempt at this point!

Calling this offseason a mess is an understatement. It was a bleeping disaster.
The cowardly flip flopping about firing Monty and Weaver. Telling the media the long delay in hiring a new POBO is because we are waiting for the Wolves to be eliminated from the playoffs then signing a new POBO days before they lose.
Announcing that the new POBO will have absolute authority to fire Monty, then stepping in and firing Monty after the POBO decides to give it another year...
Trading the best asset we received at the deadline for one or two 2nd round picks after giving away two such picks to shed the final year of Bagley's contract, followed by not even spending the money we would have been paying Bagley...
Not offering contracts to young UFA with upside because we are waiting for a team to send us a good player and draft picks. Only to miss out on Barnes and a first.
Acting like old Tobias already experiencing an age related decline is some massively huge prize who will completely transform the team.
Failing to sign a good third string PG in case Sasser struggles when Cade or Ivey miss a game.
And I haven't even mentioned that Bobi looks like a more NBA ready prospect than Ron. Hopefully Holland will develop a shot to go along with his defense. But considering the odds that he would have been available at pick 9 and other equally good or better options were actually available at 9, trading back to get one more precious future 2nd round pick, would have been the better option.
Now the FO is leaking that players wouldn't even negotiate with the Pistons this summer, despite various interesting prospects signing for less money than expected and the Pistons sitting on a pile of precious "cap flexibility".

Yep! Everything is still hopelessly fucked, and probably forever.

I don’t think it’s necessarily a complete reset of a rebuild I think it’s definitely a pivot.. we still have great talent that we are planning around even from the Era before.. I think the complete reset would be getting rid of Cade … either way disagree with it being a complete mess… rebuilds are extremely hard and they don’t usually turn out like OKC that quick.. Orlando made a jump this year but I really don’t think all in all we are that far behind them

It's definitely a complete mess: this is the stupidest team out of 30, and hope is a dubious proposition as a result.

I mean, of course this is true: it's still a very bad roster, to the extent that it seems the new GM is tanking.

Why is that a mess though? There's no way to reconfigure the team to a potential competitor that doesn't involve being a lottery team this year.

@@luniz4209 Because that still being true AFTER losing on purpose for 3.5 seasons PLUS whatever the hell happened last year is really bad; a mess, even.

@@scottwickett1273 No it's not. The past can't be changed by actions in the future. They are unrelated. Compounding past mistakes by continuing to make them is a mess. Starting over is not, unless you do so without a plan, which the Pistons clearly have (that being Cade).

@@luniz4209 The whole point is that they have already fucked it all up, and possibly to an irreparable extent.
They are definitely a mess, they are definitely still the laughingstock of the league, and....if the indefensible Tobi overpay is any indication, they are still the stupidest team out of 30.

I can only hope the Pistons are intentionally tanking for another season or three. If this is their best effort at building a winning team...
