Everyone is calling Sully a Hero and he is but everyone seem to forget his co-pilot Jeff Skiles so I want to take a moment to call Jeff a hero as Well.
King Wacky, Agreed! The entire crew, Captain, First Officer, and flight attendants were cool and professional. It was a TEAM effort that saved the lives of all of "the souls on board".
Yes, Captain Sully is a hero, but credit should be equally distributed to the co-pilot who had just as much to do with the safe landing as Sully. Without the co-pilot, he may not have been able to successfully make the landing he did. So therefore in conclusion, my congratulations to the co-pilot on a job well done for his part on keeping everybody alive.
Sully said himself "I would rather have no other man than Jeff in the cockpit with me. If I didn't have a copilot like Jeff with 20000 hours of experience like he does, there's no doubt this would have had a much more tragic ending."
yes they did , and Sully Gave the most praise, but you also have to realise , that the Captain was in control, it was his aircraft and the buck stopped with him, he was the one that made the decisions and took the aircraft into the hudson. so he is bound to get the most praise
Well the media needs help from the people they portray. These people need to do something extraordinary. Like, for example fly an airbus with 155 passengers on board with no working engines successfully into the Hudson river. lol
Fast forward to today and he is a hero. Im not excusing Boeing, but i'd bet my life that if he were the pilot of either of these 2 crashed 737's that he would have landed both of them safetly. He's an astute pilot who takes it upon himself to know everything about the plane he's flying. Plus, he's from an era when pilots actually had to fly their planes. Today's pilots are discouraged from flying with autopilot "off" except for the 1st and last 20 seconds of every flight. When an emergency happenes midflight they are essentially clueless. Just look at Air France 447 and Air Asia 8501...both pilots defied the fundamentals and crashed their planes.
Dream flight with Captain Sully. This man is so down to earth while flying 310. His quotes which speak about his personality .. One of the hardest things for me to doin this whole experience was to forgive myself for not having donesomething else. Something better," he said, without elaborating. "Thefirst few nights were the worst. The second guessings would come. Madesleep hard." Can we have a better Captain. Pax are blessed and should have mementos flying with Cap Sully.
Pilot Bravo a lot of them helped each other. Some opened doors. Some pulled a couple jumpers back out the water. They were boosting each other onto the boats. It was a whole team effort to survive. I’d have thought that was obvious.
There is a strong probability that it'll never happen again to the same pilot under those circumstances as rarely lightening strikes twice in the same place. That miraculous event happened on that day for whatever reason as any event happens on this planet. Thank god Sully was the pilot & all ended well. It now marks 11 years this year 2020.
Both were together for only days but their training was the best sully was military trained and had experience with gliders that training got him through it God bless
Flight 1549 and the miracle in Hudson river was made by two men. Sully and Jeff. This kind of situation when engines are lost captain flies the plane and co-pilot or first officer helps captain with all availble instrumenatal data. Captain has the one and only job to fly the plane and save the lives with first officer. Sully and Jeff are professionals and they did their duty to the end - Hudson river and 154 lives were saved. Regards from Finnish Lapland from a bush pilot.
Anyone who doesn't believe in miracles has never seen this landing in the Hudson. Sully and Skiles may have been at the controls, but God had his hands on both of them to guide this aircraft to the most perfect water landing ever.
I dont class him as a hero, you know why. Because thats legit the job of a pilot. They re trained 2-4 years and trained every 6 months once flying. Their job is to fly you places, but its also to save you if something goes wrong. Thats the same thing as a rescue team, rescuing you from the water and you call them a hero. they arent really, thats legit their job. Theres many stories of pilots succesfully landing a broken plane, catches on fire, but everyone survives, etc etc.. they arent called HEROES whats the difference with sully.
I read his book. He said that if one person had died, he would have refused all interviews, special events, baseball games, etc. That is completely reasonable to me.
Let's face it we all know by now that sully flew glider planes as a hobby, this is why he was so confident with his landing with no engines, a quick precise one.
The man is a legend for what he's accomplished through his career and on 1549, so please know that I don't mean any disrespect when I say that I do think that what he did on 1549 was overblown way out of proportion by the media simply to get more viewership and make $$$. I can imagine a lot of pilots would have made the decision to put the plane down in the Hudson, and most of them would likely to have accomplished the same result of no fatalities. If one understands the technicality of what happened, landing it in the Hudson was the only thing that would have made sense at the time. Any competent pilot would immediately realise that there was no way that plane was going to make it to an airport losing both engines under 3,000 feet. It was just extremely lucky that he at least had a river to land on. In many cities around the world this would not have been possible and the consequences would like have been disastrous regardless of the skill of the pilot.
I think even "any competent pilot" would still say Sully deserves recognition for what he did. Just because many others could have done it just as well doesn't mean it in any way lessens the accomplishment of the one who actually did it. I guarantee you, not a single airline pilot (at the time or since) had ever said "big deal, I could have done that too"
Rabbit Colony Most attempts to land in water during an emergency have resulted in deaths. It is not an easy thing to do. The fact that every single person on the plane survived was incredible. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_landing#Passenger_airplane_water_ditchings You will find that in most cases, especially the ones involving bigger aircraft, that there is at least on fatality.
It's sad how U S Airways (U S Air) intentionally tried to destroy this man, and his co-pilot's careers even though they did everything right and by the book.
I use to run up and down, the air craft, mom told me don't ,,, bother the Passengers!!! , Before take off, sully,,, I did talk to 3 pilots!!!! They said!!! If you love to fly !? Don't ! Do it as a hobby! ... it's like being a bus driver! In the sky

The co pilot , did , also his part, on this miracle, he should be honored and remembered, equly.
Equally
Well, not equally, because he didn't actually fly the plane onto the river. He does deserve a lot of recognition.
@@Raison_d-etre but it's like he said, if he had not crashed with the birds Sully never would be recognized as a hero
