Breaks were created by mixing breakdowns of disco songs and created the "dj" no hip hop without breaks. THANK GOD BTW imagine what we would all be listening to now without it
Dude theres a whole movement not only in Detroit but in Europe, actually electro is bumpin in Barcelona right now also Booty and Ghetto house are rocking the scene too, go listen to Casa Voyager or Childhood Intelligence great record labels to start with. Dont forget DMX Krew or Drexciya.
I love Qbert I was fotunate enough to see him perform at a underground party in the middle of a strip mall in the middle of the night in Indianapolis i think in 99 the party was poppin hard I had a great time and i remember the po running in and shutting it down and I remember everybody dippin out looking like a bunch of skeletors from he man thats how good the acid i was on i had a blast now im just old and have hella good stories to tell the grandkids.
When I was a kid and I heard Egyptian Lover, it would blow my mind. Love all this electro shit. It's the reason I got into breakbeat, Djing, and scratching (even though, to my biggest regret, I never learned how to properly do- heavy hands).
Man, first time I ever seen you was at a party in Madison, WI in like 97,98 maybe...and you blew my mfkn mind with your scratch skillz! Good to see you after all these years!
Thanks qbert you have made me interested in getting some turntables and a mixer. have put a deposit in traktor scratch pro. dont know what you think of that. can't afford technics so i'm gonna get some of those technica turntables. also i have seen a dmc championship mixer in a record shop. want to buy that and put an innofader in it. what do you think of that setup ?
Damn yo, when you doin these Electro shows down this way in Miami? Im in da Florida Keys, def would've came thru to come watch, & learn, & pay my respex homeslice....Respex, Big Upz, & Mad Love to DJ QBert, & all the Skratch DJ's.......🔥💯👍💪🙏🎶🌎
I'm no DJ and I've never heard of you; I happened to stumble upon this video doing random searches. You are very good at scratching beats, friend. #Impressive
He "invented" the 3 fingers scratch, called crab scratch. More than 20 years ago. He's a legend, created the brand vestax (best Turntables for scratching, mixing tables, etc...) Wait, you are kiddin', or you serious ?
Technically the "crab scratch" requires you to use all 5 fingers and it's not a scratch it's a fader finger movement... an yes their are less finger variations, such as 4 and 3 finger crab scratches...
@@thomasinzana273 non sensé : 1st of all you need 4 fingers, not 5. And 2nd point, you need 2 hands. So, it's indeed a scratch ! Wait, why am I talking to a fly, stealing the appearance of a maniac cop, teaching how to walk, in kids schools ? Waste of farting time,, taste of pooping limes... Bro !
Damn this was some dope shit. Great to see the man at work / at play with a couple of hours of hard electro beats & scratches. And Reckless by Ice T is my all time favourite track. I just knew when you started hitting those old school jams that you'd play it, and then damn, you played it.
Damn Qbert, nice juggling around the 12:00 mark. I haven’t seen you juggle in years (since I first saw you in the Scratch movie). Usually I just see you scratching nonstop, it’s nice to see you tearing up those doubles!
Yo! I was rewatching some Turntable TV the other day (episode 3). Been a fan of yours since my high school math teacher introduced me to thud rumble vids (2000). Brings a nostalgic smile to my face to see that you're still going on strong. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for your *live streams and new content. Keep it up Q!
Anyone know the name of the last track Q played.... The one with the heavy sub-bass? I think it's actually BY Simulant (rather than that being the track title like Q said).....
Q- BERT SAID THAT HE WASN'T TRYING TO CLOWN HIM,BUT THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HE DID WAS CLOWN HIM!!! I WOULD HAVE CLOWNED HIM TOO WITH THE COMMENT THAT HE MADE ABOUT Q-BERT KNOWING HOW TO BLEND!!!⁷
I'm now starting to get into more advanced scratching as I have all the basics down and well accentuated at fast speeds (double/triple clicks, Joe Cooley, boomerangs, crabs etc.). I've been a drummer since I was a kid so coming up with long strings of improvised and interpolated rhythms isn't difficult. All of this is on a controller (SRT1000). Am I being limited by the fact that I am not manipulating a vinyl record spinning on a felt pad on top of a direct driven platter, and instead moving a stationary jogwheel? It seems (although I'm not sure, hence my question) that some of the tricks top DJs like qbert pull off have a lot to do with the physics of a turntable, and I'm wondering if they are not able to be reproduced with my setup.
The feel would be diffrent but you can do all these scratches apart from when you need to rub your thumb on the vinyl to create vibrations. Never tryed it but there is always a way
@@thomasinzana273 Thanks! I've gotten pretty good with this controller. I used to spin house and trance in rave clubs in late 90's early aughts, so I know about turntables and even the feel, but I never *scratched* per se. I'm sure these faders aren't the best for scratching either, so I'm happy to get this good using sub-par equipment. Thinking about selling it all to help pay for a vinyl setup though.
u said, "Am I being limited by the fact that I am not manipulating a vinyl record spinning on a felt pad on top of a direct driven platter, and instead moving a stationary jogwheel?" .... quartz direct-drive is a big deal. More precision control of the finer elements in sound...
If Q isn’t in your top 5 you’re insane.
Electro is hip hop on a adrenaline high gotta love it! We need more electro producer exposed cuz there out there!
