- As the 2024 election is now just over 100 days away, it was another unprecedented week in American politics.
Just days after former President Trump was shot at a rally in Pennsylvania and then selected Senator JD Vance as his running mate at the Republican National Convention, the race was again shaken up this week, as President Biden announced he would be stepping aside, abandoning his reelection bid. Within hours, the Democratic party had rallied around Vice President Kamala Harris, Harris securing enough pledged delegates to head into the DNC next month as the presumptive nominee.
To discuss, Elex Michaelson is joined on "The Issue Is'" by Politico's Melanie Mason and UCLA Professor Lynn Vavreck. The pair discuss the unprecedented nature of this campaign, the swing voter mentality, and the latest in the Veepstakes.
Michaelson is also joined this week by attorney Areva Martin. Martin, a long-time friend of Kamala Harris, pulls back the curtain on the personal side of Kamala Harris. Martin, a delegate at the DNC, also previews the campaign ahead.

Vance made that comment years ago, but then he went on the Meghan Kelly RUclips show recently and apologized to the cats when given the opportunity to walk back his comments. He also made outlandish comments about rap* and incest saying it was an inconvenience, but in other words, regardless of the situation, the mother should put aside the circumstances and still have the child. Basically, it doesn't matter if it's your body. I'm here to say he doesn't get to tell women what decisions to make about their bodies or lives, that decision is for the individual. I don't like a lot of the things that both parties claim to support, but as a father with a daughter, I couldn't live with myself voting R in this election. Everyone is flawed, those 2 have too many.

California has nothing to brag about but the weather. The state is a disaster! Fortunately I was able to escape 22 years ago after living there my previous 50 years. I’ve never regretted my choice and the left wing politics validates my decision. Brown, Harris, Newsom, Pelosi, Schiff…..SF, Oakland, LA all crime ridden! All you have to say about Kamala is how lucky she is to have Beyoncé’s permission to play her song, Freedom. How ironic for all the Black men that found out about Kamala’s idea of “freedom”. Of course maybe it’s actually about the freedom to pillage stores for up to $900 a day with no fear of punishment by the rising homeless crisis in a sanctuary state. Thanks Kamala.
