Such a good mom that she thought he was out in the woods when he was actually walking to a dollar store. Just fortunate it was a police car with police that stopped the boy and not some one else.
That is different. When a mom tells her 10 year old child to walk to the bus stop for school and this happens every school day, the mom has reason to believe the child has gone to school. This mother thought her child was out in the woods when he was actually walking to a dollar store. He was out for an hour. A lot can happen in an hour.
Since a person reported the child to the police as being seen walking unaccompanied (maybe neglect?), the police then HAD to follow up on it otherwise they, themselves, would appear to not be doing their job. If the police ignored such a call and a child was later found to have been kidnapped, they would get into trouble.
I used to ride my bike downtown, about 3 miles away, with my friends when we were kids. We were out all day exploring the woods, going to shops, and just being kids. It's not less safe than it used to be, people have just become so addicted to catastrophizing that they can't fathom it's okay for a child to be outside playing. This is like the mother who got a visit from CPS because her kids were playing in their own back yard without an adult.
My parents being divorced, it was a 7 mile HIGHWAY drive to get to my other parent’s and there were times my brother and I would walk between the two of them on backroads - 3hrs each way and many miles later nobody ever questioned it once
Here is my initial thoughts and you can take it or leave it… I’ve been an educator for 21 years and I know parents leave their kids at home under the age of 12 all the time between the time the kid gets off the bus and the time the parent gets home from work, that’s sometimes 2 to 3 hours… What I find odd about this case in particular is that the kids, who is about to be 11 and mom could’ve thought he’s just outside playing or down the block with a friend… Instead of reprimanding the parent what the officer should’ve done is drag that kid back home and let him know in front of mom that he’s not to leave the street and traipse off into town without an adult knowing, make it a learning experience…But instead,,we’re going to arrest a parent who probably has no prior issues with the law and that is completely excessive… yes, I understand that he could’ve gotten hurt, but that’s any kid anywhere at all times… yes to making it learning experience and no to first time offender being arrested. 😅
This is so messed up. When I was 10, I was walking everywhere. I also skated and rode my bike everywhere. I would meet my FRIENDS who also traveled alone. This was mid 2000s before social media really devastated humanity.

some kids take advantage of their parents. Different kids have different temperaments and different personalities no matter how you raise them. and she might be a single mom and the kid might have been taking advantage of that particular vulnerability.
The fact they offered to drop the charges for her in a sense to admit to being guilty doesn't make sense to me do they not want her to fight it that badly?
@@Mila-lu4mb Kidnappings are more likely to occur by those who you know. Also in a smaller town it's typically less likely. Overall it's about knowing and trusting. Unless you are saying that ever single waking minute you should know where you child is and be monitoring them everytime they are out for a walk. @@Mila-lu4mb The problem is, the risk from children not developing their own risk assessment abilities properly puts them at much greater harm than than the risk of being kidnapped (assuming you live somewhere fairly normal). What tends to happen is they wind up with sudden serious exposure to risk around 18 years old without the skills to cope.
They do realize that not every kid takes the school bus, sometimes a parent leaves for work earlier and have their kid lock up for safety so kids having no adult supervision just because they’re walking home from school is normal like if you live 10-15 mins away from their neighborhood even if you’re under the age of 18 they would either take a school bus or just walk with their friends.
