I asked my son-in-law (whose background is Jehovah's Witness) why he struggled with Jesus being equal with God? His exact words were "it doesn't make sense."

Why does the bible never mention the word Trinity? I cant find it in the bible .It never mentions 3 Persons in one, it says He is One . The Name above all names. Jesus is God and His spirit dwells within us .

Pastor Paul, 99% of Christians believe in the Trinity, I am not part of that percentage. I just find it curious that you need to constantly defend it as if it is being attacked. I think that has more to do with the fact that it doesn't fit the word of God like everything else and people who actually study the Bible like yourself need to chalk it up to "it can't be explained". My aim is not to cause division but to simply state that the -whole- word of God was meant to be understood by the human mind. Otherwise it is not for us to rightly divide it. Your a great teacher and I listen to you often, but you keep circling back to this particular thing as if it needs extra defense. Best regards :)

I have no idea about percentages of believers who believe or disbelieve in the Trinity. And yes, I do mention it often because it's a perfect reminder of the fact that God's eternal nature is beyond human comprehension. There is a natural tendency of mankind to reject that which does not appeal to his reason or intellect. (You are a case in point.) But when believers do that, they will ultimately miss out of a great deal of the revelation of God's Word. To say that believers must be able to intellectually comprehend something in order to rightly divide the Word is a mistaken notion. To rightly divide the Word I must simply KNOW what the Word says and what God has revealed. And concerning His eternal nature, I know that He has revealed Himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit - one God, three distinct Persons. The fact that I can't explain it does not harm to the revelation itself. In fact, it only underscores the fact that the nature of God is greater than my intellect. This is a fact I am quite willing to confess whenever necessary. "Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!" (Romans 11:33)

@timothy : hi brother, I would humbly echo pastor Paul's words, and also argue that God's revelation to Abraham about his not-yet-present-seed saving the world didn't make sense to Abraham at the time. It certainly makes sense to us now, but even in Jesus time, they still didn't understand. And still, we are not perfectly at the end of all knowledge. If that were so, we'd all have a better grasp on Revelation. It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, and the honor of kings to search out a matter. (Roughly Prov 25:2). Seek out the definitive answer for your self by studying his Word!
      Peace, grace, and love!

@@peterandcigdem I hesitate to reply because I know this isn't the mainstream view and don't mean to cause division of any kind.. I think let's just leave it at the fact that none of this concerns salvation. Otherwise, what are all the denominations but divisions of beliefs..
