I went into Lawrence and Hanson on saturday morning and they had nothing between $50 and $330. I am pleased that I didn't buy either of them and now found this unit. Thanks
I think you should have done the box. Those generic designs with the hand-stamped model choice on the box probably don't match the quality of the product (I assume the product is high quality to put your name on it). I can put you in touch with a local designer that we used for years and that I know very well if you decide to do a 2nd round and want a custom package.
+Mark Henderson Yeah i think the box should have been updated to feature the actual meter rather than just use these generic boxes that are for multiple models even. I would rather see it in a plain blank brown box even.
Top quality meter, one of my go-to models for me and my pals at the local repair café. Everyone should own one of these.... Nos with Dave's name wow... better than ever !!!
Looks like you're already out of stock on these you bloody ripper! Great meter, has pics of it's guts on his website guys -high quality HRC fuses and beefy ass input protection. The thing is a steal for that price. Great idea Dave, sorry to hear about all of the BS for importing stuff to AU. Much respect for keeping the original model # on the front too.
Wow, hard to believe this was 7 years ago. I brought the BM235, PM300 and the 121GW and as much as I like the BM235 and 121GW the PM300 is probably my favourite.
If you had gotten the box modified, you could have gotten some interesting artwork on it. E.g., you can have artwork of a bunny, otter, or a cat using a multimeter. E.g., the front can have a detailed view of the multimeter, and a few key specs. The back can then go into more depth on the specs. The sides can have artwork of bunnies, otters, and cats using multimeters, and the bottom can probably just some additional otters or bunnies.
I am in the market for a new meter. I have been watching a lot of meter shootout videos. I'm going to get your eevblog bm235. I have been watching Dave Jones videos for many years. I used to have a Fluke 116. Thanks Dave!
I agree with the choice of not customizing the box. I personally don't give a damn about boxes, and it's not like a product that is up on the shelves of a supermarket, where the box should attract potential buyers.
Congratulations for your distributorship, Dave! Brymen is a decent company. I bought BM869S nearly a year ago and the only thing I don't like in this DMM is the missing ON/OFF button. Otherwise - great product.
I like the multimeter very much. I am a big fan of jour vids Dave and i really like the idea that i could support you this way. I live in the Netherlands i hope that's not a problem.
+EEVblog2: what are the significant spec differences between this thing and the BM257? I'm considering buying the BM257 here in Europe, but I would LOVE the EEVBlog DMM, I just need a better reason than aesthetics to throw a lot of money on taxes and duties.
Looks awesome, Dave! Per your shootout/recommendations, I recently purchased a BM257s as my first *nice* DMM, and I am very impressed - it suits my need perfectly. I can't wait to acquire an official EEVBlog DMM, as it would make my testing easier (two at once, yea?). Cheers from The Yu-naah-ted Staytes of Uh-mary-kuh!
Ordered mine from Amazon. Came in a plain white box with no printed manual. Could care less about the box, however it would have been nice to have the manual included!
I'd like to buy one to support your channel, any idea how much you'll sell it for? I guess we'd have to wait to see the other multimeter you're planning to sell under your name too and see how they compare with each other.
Even though I live in the EU, I'd love to purchase one of these, just for the EEV-Blog-Sticker and the fancy blue cover. Hope I could get it, my other choice would be a Fluke 175.
this multimeter is obtained with the green lee brand the DM860A, but the DM830A is the same as the fluke 87 v with a little more functions these green lee multimeter are excellent nothing to compare to fluke
Just bought the last one you had up on Amazon, along with your custom case! Thanks for the videos, Dave. This should make a good replacement for my dying Fluke ET-73. :)
Dave how do they compare with the 257 I like so much and that I bought after you reviewed it ? Would you ship one to Europe ? You deserve to get my money, your blog has done so much for me !
Just ordered this meter this past week (13 May 2016) ! You should have put your face in software on the LCD screen for when it starts up. Liked the Heavy Duty Quality Probes and the Temperture Probe. The only "Con" is that it is not a FLUKE ! Have the Fluke 70 III with the original battery still... Also like the blue rubber case. Thank you for the video ! tjl
You should have asked them to change the box to show the blue holster, not a big issue, but I imagine some people would be a bit nervous seeing the red device on the box having ordered a blue device
I have just purchased a Brymen 235 in the UK mainly because of your reviews. However, I've noticed mine has a particular issue AND while watching this video, so does yours! On the mV setting (either AC or DC) the display will not settle if you are holding the unit. If it is placed down it might rest on a figure (usually above zero) but if I wave my hand over it (without touching it) the display goes haywire. I noticed on this video yours does exactly the same but you either didn't notice or just didn't say. What good is this range if it does that? It does exactly the same whether the leads are attached or not. Also, my rubber cover has a couple of flaws in the moulding that I noticed did not appear on either your red or blue model. I have changed my unit once (because of the mV issue) but unfortunately the replacement has the same problems both with the mV range and the moulded cover. I'd be very interested to hear Brymens explanation regarding the mV thing. Otherwise I like the meter very much.
Nice! I've been looking at getting a 257 for ages. How much do you think you'll be flogging these bad boys off for? I do quite like the look of the blue.
Do you plan on shipping it to Austria as well? Considering it's right next to Germany that shouldn't be a problem, right? I wanted to buy on recently but it said there isn't a shipping method available for Austria :-(
+ghydda Looks as though he has already added it to his website for purchase. Hasn't been advertised on anything, even Patreon, except weirdly it popped up on his facebook. Anyway, looks to be $135 AUD, or $150 incl. GST for Aussies. Shipping appears to be free? or $8 local, $20 international. www.eevblog.com/product/bm235-multimeter Dave, sorry if I jumped the gun and ordered sooner than you expected. Please let me know if changes need to be made.
+Против Глобал In a lot of markets Brymen meters can be very difficult to find because of all the re badged local distributor versions. At least here in Australia it is far cheaper to buy from Dave locally than try and import or buy a local distributor one with huge markup.
There's only 2, possibly 3, things slightly disappointing with this meter. The bad contrast of the LCD when looked slightly above or to the side. The continuity buzzer is good and fast, and the blinking backlight is good for noisy environments, although it isn't quite as fast as the Flukes and can occasionally miss a fast contact. Users on the forum have been reporting an audible noise from the backlight and I can confirm this, not much of a deal breaker just a noisy switcher. Apart from that this meter is top notch. And as Dave says it is about the only truly certified CAT IV meter in this size. I'm wondering if the contrast of the LCD can be hacked to be a little darker. Hmm I will have to look into it a bit more.
hey Dave i got mine , no manual :( but they probes,,,, happy daze mate... :) and TBH i pulled at them for about 10 mins. that's kinda why i'm here now.
I don't think redesigning the box is needed, for one it lets you know it is a Brymen and you know it is blue in the box as you got it from the EEVBlog in the first place knowing you are getting a rebranded Brymen DMM
+EEVblog2 You might not be able to answer this contractually, but could you just whack an IR LED(Like the one seen in the 257 teardown) on the unpopulated D13 footprint and enable unidirectional serial comms? Also what is J1 connected to? It seems like there is no mating PCB or connector. My first guess was a wire link going to a photodiode for RX to go along with the TX However tracing it out on your photos it wouldn't make sense since it seems linked to U4/5 and then why not just add the footprint for an SMD one like they did for the RX. www.flickr.com/photos/eevblog/24807495745/in/album-72157664100975342/
I am trying to get equipment together so I can get into CB repair. I will specialize in mobile units for truck drivers, mainly 10/11 meter mobile units. What multimeter do you recommend? I want to be able to work on units up to 1,000 watts.
Great stuff Dave, what a bobby dazzler!! I can't wait to buy one! I've got my chosen payment method ready and waiting. Any chance you can autograph mine? ;)
+Jabez Webb Yes, but it also has better EF detection, AVG mode, and better continuity with the visual LED backlight. It's also lower cost. It loses crest mode, RS232 and bargraph. Specs slightly different, some better, some worse.
OK, I give up. HOW do I wrap the supplied cords to end up properly seated in the probe clamps on the back of the case? On my Fluke meters I just wrapped vertically, going downwards first, and the probe tips magically lined up with the back clips when I was done. These cords are too long for that, and no manner of winding seems to work. Yes, I know these back clips are also used to hold one probe when your're shorthanded in the field, but I am dearly hoping the Bryman has a method to store the cords as well.
I went into Lawrence and Hanson on saturday morning and they had nothing between $50 and $330.
I am pleased that I didn't buy either of them and now found this unit.
Thanks
Looking forward to the teardown

+Mark Henderson Yeah, maybe. Might look at doing it for the next batch. Now that I see it it does like kind of lame.
+Mark Henderson I agree !

Basic retail my friend. Thats is the reason why products have nice attractive boxes

Mine wasn't supposed to ship till October but it just arrived! I love the blue! I am impressed how fast the readings are. Very nice!
I saw Fran using your meter, and thought , well if it's good enough for Fran, it's good enough for me.
Wow, hard to believe this was 7 years ago. I brought the BM235, PM300 and the 121GW and as much as I like the BM235 and 121GW the PM300 is probably my favourite.
That truly is a nice looking blue. Looking forward to the teardown.

I just ordered one on Amazon. I have been a fan of Dave Jones for many years and I trust his advice. Great video!
The first 100 have to be autographed :)
first 100 have to taken apart and love tapped
I agree with the choice of not customizing the box. I personally don't give a damn about boxes, and it's not like a product that is up on the shelves of a supermarket, where the box should attract potential buyers.
Definitely add a EEVblog redesigned box.

Nice. good luck!
I have over 10 multimeters. I have a serious addiction to buying and collecting them... So here, take my money!
Now we get the fun task of figuring out which company is doing his custom meter
I'd love to see some notable RUclipsrs using this!
I like the pleasant Blue color.
You gonna ship to EU?

What are the fast details on the meter? 2,000 count? DC accuracy? Ohm range? etc... Thanks It looks GROOVY!!
Nice! I've been looking at getting a 257 for ages.
How much do you think you'll be flogging these bad boys off for? I do quite like the look of the blue.
135 aud ex gst.
+Christion Buric Cheers!
Teardown and review required.
Aww I want one, I have a Fluke 87 "1" that's actually older than I am and defiantly shows it's age!
I wonder if per youtube rules when you use it in the videos you have to tick the "uses product placement" checkbox ;)
Ok, I want one.
How much are you selling them for?
I'm in Canada and went out and bought a Greenlee based on your tear-downs of the Brymen.
Do you plan on shipping it to Austria as well?

+ghydda Just sorting out some shopping cart issues first.
+Aurelius R Different meter. Much more expensive.
seriously, you have to weird to care about the box pic. the box goes in the recycling in t-5 mins.....
a little new to electronics/multi-meters in general, why would you want to use banana plugs over the normal leads?
ah just realized i could fit other leads on these, sweet!
Personally I prefer the Red color, but I guess you had to change something to make them more unique.
A friend mentioned that his meter doesn't have a notch on the probes? Is this true? Oversight or?
When can we expect your custom multimeter? I'd definitely lay down some cold hard cash for that

Teardown? TEARDOWN!
Brymen should ask UNI-T from where they getting their LCD-s!
I am getting 1.5V in low impedence mode on the Brymen, what is causing that?
Teardown!
Great stuff Dave, what a bobby dazzler!! I can't wait to buy one! I've got my chosen payment method ready and waiting. Any chance you can autograph mine? ;)
Bought one last night.. yay :)
I like it, it looks cool. I'd get one if it were a Fluke.
Teardown Tuesday :D
One for sale here in Minnesota on craigslist...
can it be shipped to Romania too?
Just picked one up off amazon. Was tired of my cheap 20 dollar one haha.
Please let me know when you are selling them , I am in Australia.
What the 121gw can do that the bm265 can t? When the 121gw will be available to buy? Thank you
Maybe you should just get a sticker for the box that says EEVblog edition and put it down in the corner.
i just fucked up my multimeter, i'm going to have to order one of these.
Where's the link to buy one of these???
It says EEVBlog. Shouldn't it be EEVblog?
How does it compare to other brymen models ? In other words where it falls - between which "regular" / existing brymen models?
+arek m It is slightly below a Brymen 257. the main differences are no PC serial link option and no bar graph on the LCD.
+Jabez Webb Yes, but it also has better EF detection, AVG mode, and better continuity with the visual LED backlight. It's also lower cost. It loses crest mode, RS232 and bargraph. Specs slightly different, some better, some worse.
+EEVblog2 Cost looks to be the same - BM257 (~135USD at tme.eu) vs BM235 (also 135$ at www.eevblog.com/product/bm235-multimeter/)
+arek m That's $135 AUD not USD though.
+arek m Ah, indeed (so I guess about 95USD)
my multimeter is trash, how can I get one from EU?
I think the lcd should say EEVBlog on it or something like that
I like it, put it up for sale now :)
time for a TAREDOWN!!!
Where are these available at?
I like it!, I want one!, would you ship to argentina? (at my expense of course), how do i contact you for details?.
Woohoooo :))) Shipping to Europe?
Don't turn it on, take apart!!!!Please do a teardown so we can see what makes it special.
What??? You turned it on rather than taking it apart! Let's see the ducks guts.
so does it have a continuity setting?
+Paul Spiller ive just seen the icon near the ohms setting sorry
EEVblog2?
cool :) . next up - GI Joe soldier name "Crazy Dave" who tear the enemys electronics apart.
How did I miss this video?
They should come with a complimentary all new blue EEVBlog µRuler.
The old red doesn't fit at all *grumble grumble*
where do i buy one?!?!
👍👍
No cerial port? dammit
It's year after and… where is the review? :D
