You're welcome Roy...we've actually played a couple of times down at Ron Shore's place...I used to trot down with Ebbo and Frank Maskell from Kings Cross :)
There's a short video of Reece playing on RUclips: ""Camera interviews Tom Reece 1928)" with a little sequence of nurseries leading to anchor position.
1. The klik of the ivorys was very sharp koz ivorys dont resonate -- being organic the sound dies away quickly -- ie ivorys dont ring -- hence their klik sounds loud (& sharp). The olden bonzolines & crystalates (bonzolates) sounded slightly less sharp -- koz bonzolates are much much harder than ivorys -- but they do ring a bit. Krappamyths sound krappy -- a soft thud -- koz they are soft -- softer than bonzolates -- but harder than ivorys. 2. I think that billiards would be in some ways eezyr with ivorys -- koz the deflexion angle is much narrower than bonzolates & krapps -- eezyr to judge -- except that ivorys tend to be out of shape or out of balance, & dont run straight at slow speeds. 3. Follow shots (runthroos) are eezyr with ivorys -- koz they dont bounce as well as bonzolates or krapps (ie their coefficient of restitution is less)(ie more energy loss during impakts) -- & koz they have a much lower balltoball friktion. 4. Nurserys are i think eezyr with ivorys -- koz they follow throo better & take a narrower angle. Tom Reece's ivorys look great -- no shrinkage kraks -- they must have been kept in a cold damp room.
Amazing Roy! Amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Dean
Brilliant! A piece of history in your hands!
Thank you.
