I totally feel that too.Truly a void left in the Starcraft world.Don't know if you've seen what they did with World of Warcraft recently and won't spoil it but I think it possibly tops this. The jury is still out on that one.
That last "My life for Aiur"... The first time that it wasn't just uttered because it's what Protoss say. Zeratul - the real hero of SC. Always lingering in the shadows giving information and guiding the main characters without any recognition for himself, waiting for others to listen to him, to his cause, being rejected, and outcast, but continuing to work for his cause, for his home, and then dying with the last hope of protecting that cause - that Artanis would rise to the challenge. He will never see the end, or know if his sacrifice really had any meaning. All he could do in the final moments was hope and free Artanis. RIP the true hero of SC.
Zeratul achieved everything he had hoped for: a credible way to defeat Amon, a Hero to undertake this task and eventually restore Auir, and, finally, his Redemption. Let's leave him in Peace.
Tassadar and Zeratul for me represent two sides of leader ship, both needed, and even thou different, they gave their all for theirs, even their lives, not a doubt in my mind they thought of each other as best friends to the bitter end....
Certainly not. Zeratul saved everyone from Amon. He set in motion every event in the second game that led to their ultimate salvation. Convincing Jim to spare Kerrigan after having her cleansed. Directing Kerrigan to Zerrus so she could be reborn as a primal. Uncovering the entire prophecy, and then freeing Artanis so that he might destroy Amon's host body, having changed Kerrigan allowing her to ally with others and obtain the necessary power to finally destroy Amon forever. Zeratul is without a doubt one of the best written and most interesting characters in video game history and doesn't get nearly as much recognition as he deserves.
As much as I hate that it happened this was a really important death, Zeratul would never be the one to lead the protoss and by sacrificing himself he gave the protoss the leader they needed to unite against Amon as well as giving Artanis the push he needed to see what he needed to do. I mean Zeratul was great, but most of his people reviled and hated him for things that happened in the past, the other dark templar didn't like him, the templar thought him a traitor for Aiur and I can't see Alarak agreeing to work with him.
I feel you man I was sad to see Zeratul died as well. It's like all of us players been through so much with Zeratul from the brood wars up till the upcoming battle with Amon and he dies at the hands of the main character of the game who was also his friend. Just so tragedly sad. Amon it's going down for real now, prepare to go down in a blaze of glory! >:0
The first ever video game I ever played was the first Starcraft game and I remember loving the protoss especially Zeratul so that was hard for me to believe that they killed him off like that
+klogas games The "hair" is actually their nerve cord that ties them to the Kahla. Amon is controlling the Protoss who are part of the Kahla. By cutting it off, it cuts them off from Amon's control. (hence the reason Zeratul couldn't be possessed, his was already gone)
Zeratul foresaw that Artanis would lead the Protoss to salvation... I wonder if he foresaw his death before this encounter and knew that he was going to die that way and knew that he needed to sacrifice himself to save Artanis. I wonder if he said nothing about it because he knew it had to be that way.
i grew up playing starcraft, i bought every expansion as they came out. almost 20 years playing it, and when zeratul died it sucked. this whole expansion was an emotional one. i dont think there will be another starcraft. :'(
That was just hard to believe. It's also surprising how sad it got me. He was one my most favorite characters, not only in games. A big part of the reason I learned English was so I can understand his dialogue, a fucktonne of years ago, in the original game. I think he kinda got some sentimental value to me over the years. If they ever make another starcraft (Which, given how this ended, I doubt) I am gonna miss Zeratul a lot. I avoided Legacy until now, cause I kinda expected his death but definitely not so early in the game. And Artanis was the one to kill him... that's just fucked up. It made me sad, legit. I've never been this sad over a fucking game character. En Taro Zeratul!
That's an interesting idea actually. I doubt we would end up seeing anything like that but maybe some how in Starcraft 3. As of now though we must allow Zeratul to live on in the Nexus with the rest of his Starcraft brethren.
Plus, since he's a dark templar and has been for a while, his only recorded history within the Khala is from a long time ago on a count of his nerve cords being severed when he became dark templar. So all of his most courageous acts like of that in the SC and Brood War; the killing of the cerebrates and the destruction of the overmind, and his vision of the apocalypse and warning Jim and helping Kerrigan would be lost. Then again, all the heartache he has been through, the betrayals and killing the DT matriarch would be lost along with the destruction of Auir as well.
I came here to see this epic cutscene without those typical let's player's shitty comments like "Oh shit" etc. It f*cking ruins the atmosphere! Seems like I found a wrong channel again.
Yes it is... They killed him! Bastards! They seem have watched "Game of thrones" too much, and got infected by this "kill-all-main-characters" disease. They should pay for it!..
I just realized something... Zeratul turned into dust when he died... Protoss units never leave bodies when they die in the game... Are the Protoss Monsters?
I saw in the comments that some of bitches saying "why he doesnt killed artanis and go for his place?" Guys really from sc1 to this moment every motherfucking protoss hated him for being dark templer.BUT! he was the real protoss he knew that if he killed artanis. He would be killed by his own people. He was being kicked and his hunger for being loved was gone much higher.BUT IN THE HELL!HE SACRIFISED HIM SELF TO ARTANIS! EN TARO ZERATUL!
I agree Zeratul was considered outcast. Artanis is seen as a leader by his people. By making the sacrifice he put his faith in Artanis to lead the protoss.
Well, almost everybody cried that SC2-WoL's story was lame in contrast to SC1, and SC2-HotS's story was only a "WTF is this shit"-category, pointless dialogs between (as a protoss would say) abominations. And Blizzard thought: "Oh, yeah? You want a hard story? Let's kill Zeratul!" And it came to pass... :(
+Norbert Horváth totally agree with you about WoL. Really enjoyed HotS had a blast playing it and though LotV was great too.I'm unsure of which I like more out of HotS and LotV.Though Zeratul death was well placed in the story definitely added some much needed fuel to get this expo off to a roaring start.
The Strongest warrior hit kill invisible most agile blinking warrior in sc2, died to a noob warrior that can`t see invis, and blizzard difamed protoss like always
Well, my childhood died when Zeratul died
I totally feel that too.Truly a void left in the Starcraft world.Don't know if you've seen what they did with World of Warcraft recently and won't spoil it but I think it possibly tops this. The jury is still out on that one.
@@FRoZeNShAdY This comment didnt age well 🙂 but it was accurate.
Sounds weird but I just witnessed it.. Playing through the first time. Second time I cried playing this game 😭
In the end his message was heard through Artanis and insured his legacy will live on as well through him. A sacrifice for the greater good.
That was the same I though, I mean, the one time that frase had the right meaning

8 years and I'm still crying.

i have never cried so much in my life. i am 23
when zeratul dies it was like my chilhood dying lol
yes it was.....i know what you mean.
Exactly...
When Amon killed Zeratul with Artanis, he made it personal
Noooooooooo, for all this time. Zeratul is dead. This cant be happening. Why Blizzard this cant be happening. Zeratul was the best protoss.
I remember just sitting there in shock for like 3 minutes after that... I had no idea what to do with my life.
+lynxord Exactly!!! Just pure shock!
Think of the difference it would have made to the story if he didn't. Would've taken a lot of the emotion out. In the end well played.
The first ever video game I ever played was the first Starcraft game and I remember loving the protoss especially Zeratul so that was hard for me to believe that they killed him off like that
i cried watching zeratul died
Zeratul = Truely super hero in Starcraft series
Its the hair of artanis. The hair is something you can corrupt and make you corruptet
+klogas games The "hair" is actually their nerve cord that ties them to the Kahla. Amon is controlling the Protoss who are part of the Kahla. By cutting it off, it cuts them off from Amon's control. (hence the reason Zeratul couldn't be possessed, his was already gone)
+_AlphaCraft_ yeah
the pain gets worse after you see the Warriors cutscene in the Korhal one.
this is still the saddest I've been playing a video game was this scene.
i just can´t keep playing like two days after this...
by far my fav cinematic from the ENTIRE series, took me ages to get over it, especially as I had to go back to work straight after this cut scene Dx
Still cant believe he is gone... really miss you zeratul. My life for Aiur
Very sad scene, but anyone else got a Thrall-Grom vibe from this?
Zeratul foresaw that Artanis would lead the Protoss to salvation... I wonder if he foresaw his death before this encounter and knew that he was going to die that way and knew that he needed to sacrifice himself to save Artanis. I wonder if he said nothing about it because he knew it had to be that way.
Pretty much my reaction as well, Zeratul was one of my favorite gaming characters for almost 20 years D=
Hit me, too, when I learned, that Zeratul was gone.
i cry every time i watch this cinematic
Oh noooo! The best protoss ever is dead. At least he doesn't die in vain
i grew up playing starcraft, i bought every expansion as they came out. almost 20 years playing it, and when zeratul died it sucked. this whole expansion was an emotional one. i dont think there will be another starcraft. :'(
Optimus Noooo.... 🤦♂️ I'm sorry Zeratul NOOOOO.
Dibs on the Void Seeker.
Unless Zeratul's ghost possesses it, and continue to be a bad ass unit.
The Void Seeker was destroyed in the end of the previous mission.
It wasn't "obliterated", so I can restore it.
Entaro Zeratul!
That was just hard to believe. It's also surprising how sad it got me.
He was one my most favorite characters, not only in games. A big part of the reason I learned English was so I can understand his dialogue, a fucktonne of years ago, in the original game. I think he kinda got some sentimental value to me over the years.

It made me sad, legit. I've never been this sad over a fucking game character.
En Taro Zeratul!
And this is why i mained zeratul for the rest of HOTS and sc2
I've always liked Zeratul, but why didn't just cloak himself. Not like Artanis is a detector.
still crying for this y_y
still gives me chills ;(
I only wish, there was some way to create a purifier of zeratul, like they did for Fenix :(
That's an interesting idea actually. I doubt we would end up seeing anything like that but maybe some how in Starcraft 3. As of now though we must allow Zeratul to live on in the Nexus with the rest of his Starcraft brethren.
