    It's crazy to me how Tony can play some really average sounding stuff, but then all of a sudden out of nowhere blurt out a couple minutes worth of some ridiculously complex tab like it's nothing. I don't understand how he does it, but the man is genius.

    The best part of the video was Daves' guitar break --- hands done it was outstanding -- all the rest of it was great too but that was a monster guitar work for Sally Goodin.

    Am I the only one who thinks Trischka's tuning (I guess especially his G-string, the low one, no pun intended) sounds a little off? Anyway, great video, thanks!!

    It's interesting to me that Tashina seems to have such reverence for Tony when she is clearly an equal (or IMHO superior musician) to him.

    • @GaryLPuckett
      @GaryLPuckett 9 лет назад +2

      +JSGuitar80 That's because she seems to be a really good person. As musicians, we should absolutely have respect for those on whose shoulders we stand. Whether we are their technical equals or not or have surpassed them is beside the point. There are musician who changed the course of music, and Tony is one of those musicians. Tashina recognizes that and gives him the respect and deference due to him. (And she realizes that she's not a superior musician to Tony. And even is she was, she would still show him great respect.)

      +JSGuitar80 Otis Spann once said that the harp (harmonica) was the mother of the band in reference to Chicago Blues. I think in Bluegrass the banjo is the mother of the band.

    • @MrMusicguyma

      It ain't necessarily so. Real ensemble music is not a competiton. All the musicians in this clip are masters, not least Michael Dawes, IMHO.

    a great 'sally ' . even tonys ' overlong , mostly a-melodic break , couldnt ruin it .

    • @parsnip2699
      @parsnip2699 3 года назад

      Yeah. come for the Trischka banjo, but get wowed by the no name fiddler.

  • @kishintuchis7076
    @kishintuchis7076 Год назад

    WHEN TASHINA OR DAVES TOOK THEIR BREAK THERE WAS NO DOUBT ABOUT WHAT TUNE THEY WERE PLAYING . WHEN TRISHKA TOOK HIS , THE FIRST HALF WAS SALLY GOODIN , BUT THEN HE WENT OFF INTO TRISHKA LAND AND SALLY GOODIN DISAPPERED INTO A LENGTHY RIFF WITH NO DISCERNABLE MELODY . TOO BAD

  • @kishintuchis4133
    @kishintuchis4133 5 лет назад +4

    I AGREE THAT THE BANJO BREAK IS WAY TOO LONG AND, AS USUAL, TRISCKA GETS TO PLAYING TOO MANY NOTES ,WITH NO RECOGNIZABLE MELODY . THE FIDDLE, AND GUITAR , BREAKS ARE SPOT ON WONDERFUL THOUGH. SHOULD HAVE HADTHE BASS LOUDER .

  • @millieatr
    @millieatr 9 лет назад +8

    Little too much improv on the banjo

    • @jacquesblaque7728

      Nope. That's what it's all about. Can't have too much.

    • @waldguy

      I agree that on the first part, the fiddle is lead and the banjo distracts (I play both). Part of it is the mix. Still, let 'er lead it's not a duet.

    I've heard it said that "No one ever erected a statue to a critic.". That's for all you key board warriors that only wish you could play an instrument like that.

  • @kishintuchis4133
    @kishintuchis4133 6 лет назад

    tashinas ist break put the band in that perfect sally goodin groove. trischka kept it right there for the ist half of his break, and then proceeded to completely loose it when his way-too-long break lost the melody , daves put it back in the groove with a superior break, and tashina kept it there till the end.

  • @GaryLPuckett
    @GaryLPuckett 11 лет назад

    Dude..it's a banjo. It's just luck if you can get through a gig without playing out of tune.
