  • More sailboat jobs preparing for boat life and sailing around the world in sunny climates. We show and tell how we put our solar panel arch and dinghy davit together , and made it all work well. Our first shakedown sail of the year ends in disaster and we then have to fix our anchor windlass, we launch our new dinghy , and rigg and test the dinghy davits, before replacing our hot water heater. All so we could finally set out on further adventures.
Our story covers the installation of a new stainless steel arch to support two 450w solar panels, and the arch also supports a dinghy davit system for lifting our dinghy easily out of the water . Inside the boat we pull the cables and fit yet more Victron equipment in the form of two MPPT's which control the power from the solar panels. Last year we destroyed one of our mooring fairleads and we finally get round to replacing it with a new stronger version. I check our hot water heater tank called a calorifier and finally find the leak which has been slowly lowering the level in the engine coolant very time I check it ... so we replace it with a new tank..... all jobs finished ? ... or
course not... as we go for a shakedown sail and find the anchor windlass is unresponsive , so yet more antics in the bow locker to find the fault and fix some dodgy wiring I find.

It's great to see Aequitas in fine fettle again and the new solar arch is looking really good. It makes lots of sense to have the dinghy on davits rather than trying to manhandle it onto the deck, and will help your backs considerably!! Your extra cockpit cushions look really comfy too. Safe sailing.

She’s in a pretty good place at moment and solar arch works so well keeping dinghy out of the way, we’re getting too old to keep hauling up on deck! Extra cushions are for the G&T seats. Coming out in August for new rigging and anti foul ready for going south till the butter melts 😊

Just found your channel and watched this episode. Relay enjoyed the no nonsense delivery. You have a fine boat there. I’m about to change my Rival 32 for a bigger 44’ ketch and hoping to get out on the ocean again soon. The boat is in Dartmouth so maybe see you on the water. Btw what is the name for those seats you have in the cockpit, they look excellent. Thanks. Andy UK

I am based in Plymouth and loking to get a solar arch made up also. Would you mind saying who made your arch and if you are happy with it? Thanks

Very happy with it and it’s the boys at Plymouth Yacht Haven, Peninsular Marine Services 01752482936 the first building on left as you go into the Haven.

Great thanks for watching 😊 hubby designed it and the boys from peninsular tuned it and added the drop part so dinghy goes away from boat to launch
