If you ever get a similar job, an easier and safer job is to use lewis pins. You drill a hole near the top or centre of gravity of the stone to the width and depth of the pin, saving the drilling dust. The pins are then inserted into the hole and as soon as the load is applied, they grip and bind and you can lift the stone into place. Once the load is off the pins pull straight out the hole. Once your stone is in position fill the drilled hole using the drilling dust mixed 3 parts dust to one part hydraulic lime (not hydrated). Lewis pins are pricey to buy new but a monmmental masons shop will use them daily and if you ask nicely likely lend you a set for the day and at the cost of a few drinks.
Thx for the advice Paul. Never heard of lewis pins. You learn something new every day! I didn't really want this job.... well I say job, I did it as a favor to the lady I'm working for at the moment as she could't get anybody else.
Looks great!
Thx Tim😁That thing was heavy! All thx to Donald for his handy forklift👏👏
