- From my father Roy Wilson's 8mm cine film. Billy Smarts Circus passing along West Blackhall Street and Grey Place Greenock towards the Battery Park and arriving at the park viewed from the Lyle Hill. I understand that the circus alighted a train at Greenock Central and made its way to the park nearly 3 miles away.
*I wasn't sure initially but settled on 1966 as the year having seen some photo's being shared online by Eric Webster which were from the Greenock Telegraph of 1st August 1966 and it showed the same two lead performers with same headdresses etc on the front two elephants leaving Greenock Central Station the day before.
Music: Entrance of the Gladiators. Desford Colliery Band and Eric Crees
Video: Robert M Wilson 2020.
Have never seen this before, excellent piece of old footage 👍
Fantastic piece of film!
Great video, Robert and great music to go with it. Alistair
Not sure if it is the same time but I got my tonsils out in the old Ear Nose and Throat Hospital which was around Margaret Street. Everyone got to go home but I had to stay because I caught German Measels whilst in hospital. I can remember watching out the window as the circus passed by. It must have been I’d to late 60s.
i remember going to the circus .but never saw the parade along westblackhall st
Excellent, great! Wonderful Circus world 😍😍😍😸😸😸🚩🚩🚩
Amazing - like father like son :-) xx
Saw a couple of them coming out Word Up last week.
And now about 20'ys later , they are found out the cruelty they did to the animals!😡
A Victorian out of date horror show ! .
