I just upgraded from the racks-amps, and heavy passive 12' and 15' speakers (with horns) and an 18' sub. I wanted a portable system and went with a JBL Eon 208P, which is great, a 300 watt mixer with two 8" passive speakers that you carry like a suitcase. To make a long story short, I added the JBL IRX powered speaker series- A 15' sub, a pair of 12"s and 8"s. I form a backline with only the powered 8's out front, somewhat centered, facing the audience and supporting the backline. I use in-ears and don't need wedge monitors. Oh yeah, I play solo sax through a cordless mic, along with a speaking mic. The heaviest piece is the sub, which I think is 37 lbs., the other things are much lighter. It's a formidable setup that doesn't break your back, or your wallet, I found great 'open box' deals, and enjoying the new (accidental) gig-rig.
I use a Bose. I play the Yamaha DS150. No need for mixer. One cable. I can Bluetooth into sax or Bose. I am at the spot of organizing my music. The Bose was the game changer. Oh and I can switch soprano, tenor, my Bb.
Great interview. Very informative to us novice, solo performers! One of these days, I may give it a go! And GB is such a great guy with a wonderfully unique style of playing I really enjoy! Thanks so much to both of you - This was great!
Great video! I do exactly the same thing as GB but I include a percussionist; it blows people away that two performers (with tracks)can get that much sound! I use a JBL system that handles up to 300 guests.
I'm not sure of your exact question, but yes, I do carry liability Insurance. I did not know anything about it until I played a wedding, and the venue required the coverage. I have had it every since. I hope that helps.
@@GB-fs1my I wasn’t asking a question. I was just pointing out that in these types of videos, everyone talks about gear but no one ever mentions insurance or risk assessments.
Good info, I’d like to hear more about performance contracts and how they are handled, how fees are determined and structured and the need for any insurance coverage or liability .
Great info guys! ive been thinking on getting a Bose system,, what is the name of the Bose professional system that GB mentioned, that he should have bought? like how he bought that sweet prof Tenor..
I think it's unlikely that someone just starting to play solo gigs would be willing to spend £1K on a PA to start with....instead I think you should get a medium cost system with as many watts as possible......just don't go for the low power starter system.
There are loads of options these days for all budgets (and of course there is also used gear). Getting out playing is the most important thing but hopefully GB’s story will help.

I hear you GB, I practice on the beach or at the park. But I started practicing at work on my lunch.
At lunch, wow…. That’s very cool ! Very!

That sounds good William. Where do you get the BT’s from?
That JBL Tower is nice.
Great interview and what a lovely guy. Always interesting to hear about how members have gone about taking their sax out there.
Thank you 😊 🙏🏾
Great interview and thanks for sharing your experience....and hey, I am sure Nigel will call you for a gig soon 😂
Thank you my friend. Lol on the call.
Another excellent video. Thanks Nigel. But again, no mention of liability insurance or risk assessments.

Thanks, it is a valid point that should be discussed.

Glad you found this helpful. I think GB was referring to the Bose L1 Pro16.
It was the Bose Tower 32…. However, I just “recently” learned, that my Bose, L1-2 is a stronger unit.
@@GB-fs1my thats cool GB tnx for getting back, keep on rockin that Tenor..

According to my research, the Everse 8 is probably the best choice for what you suggest.
