  • Several years ago I had the opportunity to fly the FUJI Blimp over San Francisco.... It was a great flight and a lot of fun. I filmed over an hour of the flight so this is sort of a "trailer" for people to see. Enjoy and maybe I will put up a longer version when I have more time....

1:50 I never seen the Goodyear blimp fly close or was sharing the air with the Fuji blimp, what a rare sight to be remembered.

Yes, a Skyship 500, just like the one used as Max Zorin’s airship in “A View to a Kill,” that James Bond took a fun ride over San Francisco, and the Golden Gate, on by hanging onto the mooring rope. I love that engine sound.

That’s gotta be the best way to see that once great city. At least you don’t have to worry about stepping on any human feces on the sidewalk !

I grew up in Oakland Ca in the 80's and I remember the Fuji Film Blimp flying over my House and the Goodyear one to. I heard this was the same blimp used in the James Bond movie View to a Kill

Hi, Dick Jones here. I filmed it 12-15-1999. One of the pilots was one of the King radio guys... I want to say Jim, but not sure. He owns King Radios I think. I sent copies of the video to him and the guys from Oshkosh that you saw in the video. I do not know if Capt. Mchugh ever got a copy. The video is more than an hour long and I would be happy to send you a copy of the original if you like and you can give it to him. Let me know. It was a lot of fun.

I love that engine sound! This blimp was equipped with Porsche engines? The sound is the same of the "La Serenisima" blimp. It flies over Buenos Aires and other cities from Argentina in 1995 and 1996. Good video! Greetings!

In response to "why do we love flying?" etc. For me, it is no stop signs, sort of no speed limits, great views, feeling special because not everyone can get a license etc. Airships are nice because they are slow and you can get up and walk around and sight see and it is slow enough to really enjoy the view. Flying an airship is more like steering a balloon through the sky. Everything is much slower because you are moving slower. Also there is value in being able to "hover" in one spot. Dick

That's great! Im thinking it would be good business for a "flying blimp hotel" that would make a few days' cruises in the air. Not many rooms of course, I suppose at most 4 people + captain. But they would have to be *very* rich to afford it. It would cost something like $30,000 a day or something.

Dimitris Tripakis there's some pretty huge designs being tested Lockheed Martin has 2 one with a cargo payload of 250tons and another with 500tons. Then there's also the aeroscraft which I believe was supposed to have a payload of 400tons but a hangar roof collapsed and it's being redesigned. Designs like these could be like floating casinos I hope testing goes well I think it would be awesome to go on a cruise across America in the sky. Plus with modern avionics and turboprop/fan engines they can move fast enough to avoid bad weather or push through a headwind.

you should have kicked the pilot out of the controls and took the blimp into the golden gate bridge like a view to a kill 007 in 1985

This particular blimp is not around anymore.... I do see one flying around the bay area and I hear that you can buy tickets for a ride. Do a google search for blimp ride and you might find it. good luck. dick

I think this was a special thing.... there is a blimp flying around the bay area and you should be able to find them on google, but I doubt that they would allow anyone to fly. You could probably only be a passenger. Let me know if it all works out. dick
