1965 tiger stripe wide was issued to Special Forces at Pleiku Vietnam. When they acquired an M-113 personnel carrier I was drafted from the motor pool into their unit to drive it. When I went on patrol with them they issued me 1 set of camos, shirt/trousers/soft hat. callsign at Pleiku was Dragon 1, 2 and 3

I knew a man in Midland, Texas that was one of the first Navy Seals. He wanted to be an UDT like they had during WWII, and enlisted in the program. Later they were asked to form a new group to do recon and the rest is history. He said his group was the first to wear the Tiger Stripe uniform. He told me some scary stories but lived to tell me. I have seen military people here in Thailand wearing a brown tiger strip uniform. I would like to have one in a desert tiger stripe.

Tiger stripe or ERDL? Not the same thing. ERDL was the immediate forerunner to the four-color woodland pattern that BDUs used. In fact, it's essentially the same pattern but the BDU version was enlarged, which reduced the blobbing effect at longer range as a trade off from the close quarters effectiveness.

I had a set that was given to me by one of my mothers coworkers back in the late 1970s. He was some sort of Air Force Advisor over in 'Nam. I was still in elementary school then. I have no Idea what happened to it. Most likely I wore it out. I also picked up a TS Beret at a gun show back in the mid 1990s and still have it. The pattern worked great in the the night here, Daytime in the grass lands and cross timbers here was a completely different story. BrushStroke and SS-Leto work much better. But there is no such thing as a universally effective camouflage. Thanks for all the time, effort and energy you put into these videos !

Tigertripe is kind of my favorite pattern. The first clothing piece in camo I got as a child was a t-shirt in tigertripe and it made quite an impression on me. While it is not that effective where I am living, central Europe, it oozes tradition and style. Woodland proofed for me to be more efficient and today's MARPAT is a hell of camo, but this old tigertripe is just awesome.
And this is true for all variations of it.

Fyi, tiger stripe used by the Malaysian army began in late 1960s. Before that, the Malaysian army used uniform similar to what British (far east and south east Asian) force had. That type of camo is still used today but for the territorial army and royal state guard special force in Johor (south of Malaysian peninsula). The Malaysian army is now using the digital camo.
