    Tag doesn't make bad pieces, the Aquaracer and the Monaco aren't bad pieces, only thing is because of the marketing they do they've become a status symbol like Rolex, non watch people buy them because of the name. But they are good for getting people into the hobby as a catalyst .

    • @stephens2r338

      Tag basically only makes over priced bad peices. I think however you are totally correct about uninformed people purchasing them.
      I'm not so sure that when they become intrested and find out that they own a lemon thats thas worth nothing will increase their desire to dive deeper into the hobby.
      Maybe a mechanical Tissot or Longines would be a better option to sow the seeds.

    Heuer’s glory days had long since passed by the time TAG bought them in the mid 80s. Some of the pieces Heuer were churning out in that period were utterly atrocious. Without TAG - and it’s strategy of selling relatively cheap watches at maximum margin - the brand would have disappeared altogether. These days I think the quality of the lineup is fantastic, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a TAG Heuer to anyone. I have an Autavia and absolutely love it - the current Aquaracer is also a terrific piece.

    TAG Heuer is, essentially, "Heuer" today. Go take a look at the recent Autavia re-issue. At around $3000 (for which it can easily be found), it's a solid timepiece which stacks against Omega or most any others favored by watch snobs at that price point.

    I can back up the quality issues mentioned, based on experience with a TAG Heuer from the early 2000’s. Was a gift, it looks nice, but every year something on it falls apart. The metal bracelet and the lugs are consistent failure points. This past year an applied hour marker fell off the dial, and haven’t been inspired to fix it. If it had not been a gift, I think this TAG Heuer would’ve been traded or sold long ago, just not worth the trouble. Honestly, I think this watch has spent more time broken or being repaired, than in a wearable state. BTW, it’s an automatic.

    SO basically cheap Tags are bad, and more expensive Tags are good? Lol who’d have known? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️
    I like the Carerra cal 16 Day date (7750 based), the Autavia (Tag 02) and the Monaco, and the Carerra cal 1887 .. But hey, that’s just me!
    After owning multiple Rolex’s, Omegas, IWCs, and one JLC, I think im actually going to go ahead and get a Tag! Going to put my money where my mouth is..
    In all Honesty, no one buys Tags full price, and at 25% off, the higher end ones are great. Furthermore, they look cool, and i think people just hate on Tag for the sake of it. Same reason people hate iPhones. Its the in thing, its the one thing you ca bash on and get large scale public approval .. A lot of movements used by Tag are shared by the entire LVMH lineup, including Omega, IWC and Breitling. Everyone puts their own touch to it, but that’s about it, so they really cant be that bad! Really..
    I’d advise staying away from some pieces, but the hate is now so generic, its like people say stay away from Range Rovers because they’re unreliable, but people forget the Range is only one model JLR makes, and that there are many models which are actually great and reliable.. Like i said, sheep and herd mentalities..

    Tag Heuer is not garbage and, in fact, it doesn't even have a horrible reputation within the watch community. There is just a perceived rumor of inferiority because there are a handful of elitist owners of Rolex, AP, Patek, etc, etc who don't like the idea of average watch fans or just everyday people enjoying a watch for their own reasons. These people are exclusionary and they find Tag Heuer an easy target because they have many quartz models, they are relatively affordable and they have a sort of trendy advertising campaign with an array of celebrities. So, in a certain sense, I agree with J. Anthony, but I wouldn't perpetuate the myth of a bad reputation. I think whatever bad reputation Tag allegedly has is really just a reflection of the insecurities of a small elitist segment of the watch enthusiast community. I've owned several Rolexes and several Tags, even Tags from the so-called horrible 90s and 2000s era. Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, I've enjoyed my Tag Heuers just as much as my Rolexes.

    I bought a Tag Heuer Aquaracer Calibre 16 chronograph about three years ago. It looks great, but then the problems started. I’d keep it in the winder at night, and halfway through the day it’d stop. Took it to the AD and they said just wind it again. I did, and it was good for about two days. Took it back to the AD who sent it out under warranty to be fixed. Three months later, got it back and 2-3 days later it stopped again. Tag said they really couldn’t find anything wrong....no f’ng solution at all. Finally took it to a watch repair place who was recommended highly...a spring was broken, the crown stem was stripped etc. He couldn’t believe Tag didn’t fix this while having it in. Will NEVER buy a Tag again.
    Been wearing an Omega since and have never had a single issue. Tags look nice but don’t be fooled. Interior quality sucks and their service department doesn’t give a damn.

    I really like my Tag Aquaracer Calibre 5 it's easily the most accurate automatic I have and for £1200 (40% off) I spent on it the finish is amazing. Ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal and the crown is super smooth and solid. As for the plastic spacer that is probably a better choice for a dive/sports watch as it provides a bit more shock resistance to the movement. Seiko use plastic spacers on the majority of their dive watches for that reason.

    • @jhmsmarttv795
      @jhmsmarttv795 5 лет назад +5

      +Ben Lait Seiko also uses plastic spacers because they are a budget brand, not because it's better! No brand with a horological worth would build their watches like that. You know why? Because it is not better as you claim, quite the opposite actually!

    • @benlait3696
      @benlait3696 5 лет назад +8

      The Delrin spacers used by Tag are made by DuPont and are great for shock protection. They are tough and absorb impact better than any metal. Bremont also use a similar material for their spacers.

    • @jhmsmarttv795
      @jhmsmarttv795 5 лет назад +3

      @@benlait3696 Just FYI, shock absorbance is normally built into totally different parts in a watch than the movement spacer (in fact, the shock absorbing properties of a movement spacer is so minimal, that unless you would make it totally out of rubber, it wouldn't offer any advantages). If you would be right, then please tell us why you don't see this in AP's, Vacheron's, Patek's, Rolex's, Omega's or other more high end brands? And second FYI, the metal spacer is most often part of the watch anti-magnetic properties. Bremont do not use plastic spacers. They have a patented rubber cushioning sitting between two metal cages. The outer movement ring is still made of metal, just as the housing of the movement. This is not comparable to cheap watches with plastic movement spacers.

      As to the “plastic holder” as an older guy I remember when Glock firearms came out with a polymer frame. The gun gurus all committed that they would never buy a plastic gun. They said it couldn’t be durable or reliable for a firearm. Thirty years later they have proven to be the most durable and reliable gun on the market. Today all those gurus own polymer frame guns. It changed the industry. My point is how do you know if it’s bad? It might be good.

For all non watch geeks, Tag Heuers are well designed and well made jewelry and they serve their utilitarian purpose very well. "All" mechanical watches suck. They are prone to failure, grossly inaccurate, and take weeks to get repaired/serviced. Tag Heuers are easy and cheap to repair/service. Only a watch geek can tell whether you are wearing a Rolex or a Seiko. Others are only impressed by the "looks" of the jewelry. Watch geeks are generally poor and have only their "preowned" watches to impress others. You gain nothing by impressing a watch geek living in poverty. Buy a good looking Tag and impress the people that matter. Spend the rest of the money on a vacation with a person that matters. Cheers ! 😎

Tag Heuer needs to be more special in design and stop trying to be like Holbot. me personally I don't like the open dail line of their watches. A new direction for TAG? A different route? Lost? Maybe 10 years ago. It seems you missed the boat on this one.
    Tag Heuer gets a bad reputation because people like yourself spread misinformation like this video.
    You can buy a Rolex, Omega, Brietling at Costco.
    Carrera, Monoco, Autavia are not classic pieces? Really?
    Just some advice, you might want to do your home work on a company before you make a video about them. This is just lazy journalism. You call Tag Heuer garbage? Most of what you say simply isn't true with their higher end pieces. Would you hold Grand Seiko to a different standard since they also use stamped metal on their lower end seiko pieces?
    For a brand winning the prestigious Grand Prix d’Horlogerie in Geneva 8 times is quite a feat. They did this all recently by the way. So your outdated opinion is just that, outdated.
    A more accurate description would be a two-tier watch company.
    The carrera line and autavia, monaco lines are all produced side by side and at the same production plant as zenith.
    Their link, Formula one, and to a lesser extent their Aqua-Racer lines leave something to be desired.
    But most people like yourself assume their whole lineups quality is the same as those lines, which couldn’t be further from the truth.
    ruclips.net/video/Soz6APVp-e4/видео.html
    Is their a better chronograph than the Autavia with the in house Heuer 02 for the money? The speedmaster is quite a bit more as is the el primero.
    I only own one Tag Heuer the Heuer Autavia after i compared it to the Speedmaster which was my other watch i was considering. The quality on the Autavia was every bit as good, with a automatic movement with a 80 hr power reserve, column-wheel, with free sprung balance. For $1000 less. And in my opinion a better looking watch.
    ruclips.net/video/ETCnf4h98ak/видео.html
    ruclips.net/video/dw1qCRV3MxQ/видео.html
    I thought the same as you do before i actually considering buying a Tag-Heuer. With that being said, having a you tube channel mainly about watches, you should have taken a page out of the watchbox, watchartsci, or hodiknee, and delved a little deeper into what makes a modern Tag Heuer.

    thinking of getting the Carrera Heuer 01... do you think its worth it? I could spend a little more to get a pre-owned submariner though. Can I have your opinion?

    Well, the watch community can have their opinion, but I respectfully disagree. My first nice watch was a Tag Heuer Day/Date Carrera CV2A10 in 2010. Paid $3500, and I don’t find that “affordable” for most folks. I wore it 12 years before buying a Rolex Sub 124060. I still wear the Tag on a navy blue strap when kicking around. It has been through many experiences in my life. It clearly needs servicing after 12 years as it runs a bit slow. Killer watch, though.

    I bought a lady’s 28 mm quartz SS TAG Heuer Link for $1200 at a duty free shop in Mexico in 2000. The battery lasted for a little over 2 years each time, and it always kept perfect time. I swam in it, showered in it, golfed in it, mountain biked in it, rode my motorcycle in the rain in it, and generally beat it to death for 16 years. When it finally wouldn’t pass a pressure test, I sold it on eBay for $500. Considering cost per wear, I think I more than got my money’s worth.

    Me as a part of the watch community don't like Tag Heuer because their movements are not good regulated and often the Movements are hold by a plastic ring like Seiko and that is the finisher argument for me.

    I always like the design of Tag Heuer watches. The Tag Heuer Link, Kirium, Carrera and Monaco are very beautiful and cool watches. The Link bracelet was very popular in the 1990s and early 2000s. I am a middle class person it is good for me and other member of the Middle class when a watch is affordable because I can't buy a watch that cost as much as a car or a house. Tag Heuer was such a popular brand that golfer Tiger Wood and movie star Matt Damon use to advertised for it. I think the only real problem that I have heard with Tag Heuer was the low quality of its movements and plastic used as movement holder. Tag Heuer didn't have a lot of in house movement and the ETA movements they used wasn't customized or modified to make it different from other brand. I hope Tag Heuer fix their quality problem and become a good watch brand again.

    I bought my 45mm Carrera Heuer 01 skeleton less than two month ago, and last week I realized the watch was running 16 secs fast per day, so I took it back to the store thinking I got it magnetized. The watch maker tested it and the watch wasn't and I had to send it in to TAG to get them see what going on. I wore the watch less than 6 times, and never dropped it or done any physical activities. I am very disappointed with TAG, the watch will be gone 4 to 6 weeks before I get it back. I am not impressed specially after spending $5,500 on the watch. Big mistake and will never buy one again. I could have bought a Tudor or an Omega for the money

      hero629 li know it's anecdotal, but I have had two Carreras. And at some point on both of them the rotors stopped freely spinning. Both were fairly inexpensive fixes, but I've never had that happen on any other Swiss watch I've bought.

      @@callmedru Buy the Tudor. You can thank me in a few years. Tag are over priced garbage and that's where it will end up in 10 year's. The Tudor however will still be running well, never had a service and probably worth the same as you paid for it.

      @@callmedru your welcome. If your good friend's with your dealer then it helps. If not then throw the net out a little further, even to Europe. If a dealer has the watch buy it and book the flight. I live in Norway and there's no waiting list. Export price from here is -25% so that pays for the flight and you wear it home and have a free holiday.

    I do not agree with this opinion, what to say about the HORRIBLE Rolex Day-Date, DateJust and Explorer, to me is unsightly watches made for old people over 60 years, please, Tag heuer makes high quality watches and for one price that people can afford, even being Quartz some models are excellent, I even have an F1 Tachymetre and it is sensational and with current design, not 50 years ago !

    As a former television news producer, you might want to consider eliminating the music after you begin your narration. It serves no purpose and merely makes the viewer have to invest more attentional resources into understanding what you're saying. That is, is doesn't make the viewing experience more pleasant and it doesn't hold viewer attention. It's basically attentional clutter. The good thing about your use of music -- if you're hell-bent to use it -- its that it's not outrageously loud. Consider NBC's "Meet the Press," the "Data Download" segment, which is presented in the second half-hour of MTP. The music is so over-modulated that it's often very difficult to understand what the moderator, Chuck Todd, is saying. At least you aren't cranking up the music so loud that you have a :Data Download" situation. Cheers!

    I have owned a few Aquaracers in the past, when I first got into watches. They were my "gateway drug". I never had any problems with any of them, but ultimately sold them all either at what I paid for them or slight above that. Of course, I bought all of them used at good prices. I got my money out of them, which I gather can be tricky, and they were fun. I don't own any of them now.

    I just bought my first Luxury timepiece, it is an Aquaracer Chrono and it was $2200 its not an $8k Rolex but ill put the automatic movement against anything under 4500 in other brands. Omega is nice but it doesn't take much research to find out that they have issues consistently with a lot of owners. Point is, we are all entitled to our opinions but I love the fact that I worked hard and was able to buy this watch. My First LUXURY brand watch. Tag or Tag Heuer is a company with a starting date of 1860. A swiss watch company with tons of history anyone who disagrees can kick rocks.

      It is Heuer-Leonidas ... that had a long pedigree. The TAG part is just an outfit, that supplied parts to F1 teams.

    Good video!! I have a Heuer Monnin 844 diver from 1979, that’s 40 years old. It was a present for my 16th Birthday. Heuer took a lot of the design cues from the Sub and sold it at a much lower price point. IIRC, this watch probably saved Heuer before the merger with TAG. It has a lot of sentimental value for me and it will always have a place in my collection.
