One of my funniest Smash moments was getting a counter just like the one in the thumbnail. It was perfect, literal revenge for the Byleth breaking my shield on the previous stock.

I'm not sure about other counters but sephiroth dies since his counter is a projectile, the cape not only triggers the counter but reflects it on top of that.
